Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to AWA/WWF Wrestlemania as we are live here at Madison Square Garden in New York City! I am Ken Resnick and for the first time I am joined here by esteemed color commentator, Gorilla Monsoon. Gorilla, how are you tonight?
Gorilla Monsoon: Kenny, I'm doing fine tonight and cannot wait for the action to get under way here tonight as we have a real doozy in our first match as it will be a Badstreet Rules match. As you can see the weapons inside of the ring, this match will most surly get out of hand quick and most definitely could get violent.
1
Ken Resnick: Here we go with the Fabulous Freebirds entering the ring. The team consists of Buddy Roberts, Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy along with them they are carrying that Freebird Hair Cream which remember they blinded the Junkyard Dog with back at the AWA Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team tournament. Bill Watts is definitely out for revenge tonight after the many painful surgeries that Junkyard Dog has had to endure just for the chance to even possibly get his eyesight back.
Gorilla Monsoon: Bill Watts has chosen Jim Duggan as his partner here, but the third member of the team appears to be the Junkyard Dog? As you can see his face is covered up with that cloth after that acid burns to the eyes from that Freebird Hair Cream. It looks like we may have a three on two match on our hands as I don’t see what help the dog can be to his team when he can’t even see.
Ken Resnick: The Freebirds taking advantage here as they are going to work on Jim Duggan and Bill Watts. Look at Michael Hayes show boating here as he is displaying that Freebird Hair Cream for everyone here New York City to see. Hayes loves the spotlight and I guess there’s no better place to be in the spotlight but here in NYC.
Gorilla Monsoon: What is this Michael Hayes trying to do here? He is playing a guitar to the crowd here in New York City! Buddy Roberts goes to work on Bill Watts with a trash can while meanwhile Terry Gordy slams Jim Duggan in the corner of the ring on that hard steel ladder!
Gorilla Monsoon: Michael Hayes is in all his glory right now…..
Ken Resnick: Wait a minute, that is “Dr. Death” Steve Williams! Williams was a standout athlete at the University of Oklahoma as an All-American football player! He is here to even the odds! Gordy and Roberts notice that Williams is back there but Hayes is still trying to play to the crowd with that guitar, he doesn’t see Williams!
Gorilla Monsoon: Steve Williams has inserted himself in the match and has become the third member of the Watts and Duggan team! As he enters the ring, Williams connects with a giant double clothesline on both Gordy and Roberts!
Ken Resnick: Now we see that strength that was cultivated at the University of Oklahoma as “Dr. Death” Steve Williams connects with a giant back suplex on Michael Hayes as Jim Duggan and Bill Watts turn the tide of this match as all of the Freebirds are finally getting what was coming to them for the blinding of the Junkyard Dog.
Gorilla Monsoon: Terry Gordy has been disposed of on the outside and Buddy Roberts is hung up in the top turnbuckle here. Bill Watts and Steve Williams have Michael Hayes at their mercy and Junkyard Dog with the protective cloth over his head has entered the ring! He can’t even see out of those eyes, what is he going to try and do here to Hayes?
Ken Resnick: Junkyard Dog has taken the cloth off of his head and he is getting revenge on Michael Hayes as he just hit Hayes right over the top of the head with the barbwire spool and may have just busted Michael Hayes wide open!
Gorilla Monsoon: Steve Williams has Michael Hayes held down on top of the table and here comes Junkyard Dog with his patented flying head butt off the top rope!
Gorilla Monsoon: With a thunderous crash, Junkyard Dog lands on the table on top of Hayes while referee Marty Miller is down for the three count and the Bill Watts led team has won this match and got the revenge they so desperately wanted on the Fabulous Freebirds!
Ken Resnick: There’s Bill Watts alongside Steve Williams, Junkyard Dog and Jim Duggan as they are all are celebrating in the ring as they have gotten their revenge on the Fabulous Freebirds and the temporary blinding of the Junkyard Dog.
Ken Resnick: Moving on here in the evening we have the AWA United States Championship on the line here as Andy Kaufman takes on the one and only Bruiser Brody after AWA President Stanley Blackburn had had enough and decided that Kaufman needed a real challenge in defending the belt.
Gorilla Monsoon: And would you get a look at this? Andy Kaufman it looks as though is trying to “psyche out” Bruiser Brody by trying to step over the top rope into the ring much like we see men like Brody and Andre the Giant do. If he’s not careful he make take a tumble and may not be able to defend the title in the first place.
Ken Resnick: And here he comes, the one and only Bruiser Brody! It’s about time that Brody finally get a shot at a title here in the AWA. After a long running feud with Abdullah the Butcher, Brody finally is setting his sights on gold.
Gorilla Monsoon: And it looks as though Andy’s plans for keeping the title may be going right out the window. Referee Earl Hebner is ordering Billy Graham and Gino Hernandez of Andy Kaufman’s Cabaret of Hollywood Stars to head to the back and he is barring them from ringside for this contest!
Ken Resnick: And just as Graham and Hernandez make their way back down the entrance ramp here at Madison Square Garden, they are seeing the first taste of action in this match as Bruiser Brody has press slammed Kaufman high above his head and Kaufman comes crashing down hard to the mat.
Gorilla Monsoon: That’s surly not how a champion is supposed to fight when the title is one the line! Andy Kaufman is trying to escape the ring and hide out but Brody will have none of that as he has grabbed him by the tights and is dragging him right back into the ring.
Ken Resnick: I have a feeling that Kaufman already knows and can feel that the title is starting to slip from his grasp and he will take any desperate measures he can to assure he keeps the title and perhaps more importantly to him, stay in the spotlight.
Ken Resnick: Referee Earl Hebner was asking for a break from Brody since Kaufman was in the ropes. This has allowed Andy to slip under the ring to avoid the terror and wrath of Bruiser Brody. Andy Kaufman is in big trouble here as he finally has a worthy opponent facing him instead of a clown or an amateur wrestling dummy.
Gorilla Monsoon: And in typical Andy Kaufman fashion he has taken the short cut and has snuck around to the other side of the ring by way of crawling under the ring and is about to pounce on Brody. This may be the one little opening that Kaufman needs to keep his dim hopes of keeping the title alive.
Ken Resnick: Andy Kaufman is now on the back of Bruiser Brody and he is using an illegal chokehold on him. Referee Earl Hebner needs to step in there and break up this totally illegal hold.
Gorilla Monsoon: Andy Kaufman is begging for mercy here as Bruiser Brody looks like he's ready to put the finishing touches on Kaufman, but here comes Billy Graham and Gino Hernandez but right when they are ready to interfere, referee Earl Hebner has cut them off at the pass and is not letting them enter the ring!
Ken Resnick: Here comes the reinforcements for Bruiser Brody as he delivers the big boot to Andy Kaufman, Andre the Giant has come to the ring and he is escorting Gino Hernandez and Billy Graham out of the ringside area this could be it for the AWA US title reign of one Andy Kaufman!
Gorilla Monsoon: Andre the Giant has laid out Gino and Billy on the entrance ramp and there is the big flying knee drop by Bruiser Brody and looks like we're going have a new champion in Bruiser Brody!
Ken Resnick: Bruiser Brody putting Andy Kaufman in his place as he is stepping on the throat of Kaufman as referee Earl Hebner is down for the count and that is it, we have three count! We have a new AWA United States Champion, Bruiser Brody!
Gorilla Monsoon: The new AWA United States Champion, Bruiser Brody with his friend Andre the Giant are standing tall in the ring as they celebrate with the title belt! Meanwhile, Billy Graham and Gino Hernandez are carrying Andy Kaufman to the back. Finally Andy Kaufman got the challenge that he should have been getting all along and in stunning and quick fashion and he loses the battle, loses the title and probably most important to him, loses the spotlight.
Gorilla Monsoon: Now here we go with this most very interesting matchup as Rick Rude and Eddie Gilbert, the former Hot Stuff International teammates will be defending the AWA World Tag Team titles up against “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers and “Playboy” Buddy Rose. Rick Rude as you can see is making his way to the ringside all by himself, at AWA Clash of the Champions it was Precious deciding in the end that she'd rather be with Eddie Gilbert than with Rick Rude.
Ken Resnick: Here comes the other half of the AWA World Tag Team Champions, “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert with his valet Precious. This is going to be an interesting scenario here as Eddie Gilbert has been claiming that he is the one and only holder of the AWA Tag Team Championships so we'll have to see if he tries it defend the titles on his own or if he allows Rude to get involved in this match.
Gorilla Monsoon: Even before Rose and Somers make their way to the ring, Rick Rude is attacking Eddie Gilbert as referee Jerry Calhoun is trying to jump in the middle of these two to break it up. I can't believe that Rude is just going to work already on Gilbert. Apparently, Rude thinks he will be the one that defends the AWA World Tag Team Championship by himself.
Ken Resnick: Rick Rude continues pounding on Gilbert here as Precious is trying to grab onto Gilbert to get him out of their and escape this attack. Now finally entering the ring, here comes Rose and Somers along with their valet, “Sensational” Sherri Martel to the ring. They look like they're ready to get this tag team title match underway and seize on the strife between Rude and Gilbert to seize the opportunity to take the belts.
Gorilla Monsoon: Buddy Rose drags Eddie Gilbert into the ring and it looks like it's going to be Eddie Gilbert starting out this match even though Rick Rude has already beat him up quite a bit even before the bel rang for this match.
Ken Resnick: buddy Rose going for a single leg lock here as Rose is really working over the leg of Eddie Gilbert. Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude don't seem to want to work together at all here as this is just a very interesting situation where we have two men who don't like each other are holding onto the AWA World Tag Team Championship.
Gorilla Monsoon: This is where Rose and Somers definitely excel as a tag team. Doug Somers starts working over Eddie Gilbert in this double team situation as Eddie Gilbert has got to make a tag here quick if he wants to save the titles, even if it’s to Rick Rude who he has had a major falling out with.
Ken Resnick: Rose and Somers seem to be almost mocking Eddie Gilbert at this point as they are letting him go over to the corner and try and get the tag to Rick Rude. They know there is dissention amongst the two and the tag team champions are basically falling apart at the seams. The question is, will Rude even accept the tag from Eddie Gilbert?
Gorilla Monsoon: The tag has been made to Rick Rude and looks like he's going to accept the…
Ken Resnick: Well that didn't take long as Rick Rude dumps Eddie Gilbert over the top rope and looks like Rick really thinks he's the one and only tag team champion similar to what Gilbert is saying about himself. Rude is going to have to prove it here by defending the belts by himself after he just took out his own tag team partner.
Ken Resnick: A big left hand by Rick Rude has Buddy Rose stumbling to stay on is feet. Rick Rude is trying to keep the titles for himself and for Eddie Gilbert, I guess?
Gorilla Monsoon: A big hip toss here by Rick Rude as he sends Doug Somers reeling and all of a sudden it looks like it’s Rick Rude who is in full control of this match even though it is basically a two on one situation.
Ken Resnick: Buddy Rose has turned the tide of this match as he's going for a reverse neck breaker.
Gorilla Monsoon: What is Eddie Gilbert doing here? Eddie Gilbert is up on the apron and shouting at Rick Rude. Is he trying to distract them so that it is Rude who takes the loss and Gilbert can blame it all on him?
Gorilla Monsoon: Precious now up on the ring apron as she has a steel chair in her hands and may be looking to use it here. Precious swings the chair and…she hit both Rude and Gilbert!!! Who did she mean to hit? She hit both Rude and Gilbert! I can’t believe it! Did she mean to hit Rude?! Did she mean to hit Gilbert?! Did she mean to hit them both?!
Ken Resnick: Precious has seen the error of her ways and she is screaming at Eddie Gilbert to get up while meanwhile Buddy Rose rolls over on Rick Rude as referee Jerry Calhoun is down for the three count and we have new AWA World Tag Team Champions in Buddy Rose and Doug Somers.
Gorilla Monsoon: Rose and Somers don't seem to really know what has happened as Jerry Calhoun is proclaiming Rose and Somers as the new champions. Eddie Gilbert, meanwhile is screaming at Precious!
Eddie Gilbert: Why in the heck did you do that? You just cost me the championship! I had them beat!
Ken Resnick: Precious did indeed cost them the AWA World Tag Team Championship as both Gilbert and Rude are questioning Precious as to why did she that.
Ken Resnick: I still don't think that Precious has truly made her mind up in this entire situation and remember that Jimmy Garvin still seems to be lurking in the picture as well. So we have yet another layer of mystery in this whole situation. I guess in the coming weeks will hopefully get the final resolution to this entire matter as it seems it has gone on long enough.
Ken Resnick: Wait, who's this guy? I’ve never seen him before.
Jim Cornette: Hello everyone, I am the manager of champions, I am James E. Cornette and I am here to tell you that I will be bringing home all of the championships here in the AWA. I will bring home the championships to Mama Cornette and she will be so proud of me. You don't know what my plans are, but rest assured I have scoured the globe for the most vicious men I could find to carry out all my plans.
Gorilla Monsoon: C’mon, get this guy out of the ring. We have important matches to get to. I have no clue what he is talking about. Could we get security out here as this man is totally not part of the card to be out here tonight.
Ken Resnick: Thankfully AWA Security Staff has arrived as Scott Ledoux and George Gadaski are out here as they are taking this James E. whatever his name is out of here.
Jim Cornette: You can't do this to me! I’m calling a lawyer! Don't you touch me! Get your hands off me!
Gorilla Monsoon: Well let's get this guy out of the ring as he's not part of Wrestlemania. We’ll be back in just a moment with Dusty Rhodes taking on Jake Roberts.
Gorilla Monsoon: Our next match is going to be the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes taking Jake “The Snake” Roberts in a most interesting contest. Dusty’s cowboy hat along with Jake’s mystical club will both be hanging on a pole high above the ring. The man to get possession of both the hat and the club will be declared the winner in this match up.
Ken Resnick: At the ringside area now is the ever mysterious Jake “The Snake” Roberts as he is sitting in the corner as he is joined by his fellow Snake Pit members, the One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy and apparently his newest follower, the once best friend of Dusty Rhodes, Dick Murdoch.
Gorilla Monsoon: Dusty Rhodes starts out this match in a fury as he comes flying down the entrance ramp with that cow slop bucket and he just whacked Jake Roberts right over the top of the head to get this match started!
Ken Resnick: Dusty Rhodes is just going to town on Jake Roberts as he is pounding Roberts head into the turnbuckle over in the corner as the other Snake Pit members can only look on as I don’t think any of them want to get in the way of Dusty at this point.
Gorilla Monsoon: Dusty Rhodes comes down by dropping the big elbow smash on Jake Roberts here as he's got Roberts reeling here midway through this match. But remember, the cowboy hat and mystical club must both be in your possession in order to win this match, pinfalls do not count in this match.
Ken Resnick: Hold on a minute here as Dick Murdoch with that followers sheep mask on his face is up on the apron and seems to be distracting Dusty Rhodes right when he thought he had Jake Roberts in trouble and was about to gain possession of both the hat and the club.
Gorilla Monsoon: They may have been best friends at one time, but that appears to be no more. Dusty Rhodes is getting some revenge for that sneak attack last week as he drops the big bionic elbow on Dick Murdoch and has sent him reeling to the outside and onto the floor here at Madison Square Garden.
Ken Resnick: Dusty continues his onslaught here as he takes King Kong Bundy and rams his head into the metal ring post. Dusty has gone crazy here and is trying to take out the entire Snake Pit here in one big swoop.
Gorilla Monsoon: Wait, what is this? What is Jake Roberts doing? Has he lost his mind? Jake Roberts has put the follower’s sheep mask on and he's doing some sort of spider walk here as Dusty Rhodes is basically mesmerized. It is taking Dusty’s complete concentration off of this match right when he had a huge upper hand over Roberts.
Ken Resnick: Meanwhile, Dick Murdoch is taking the opportunity while Dusty is distracted to get the mystical club down from the pole for Jake Roberts.
Gorilla Monsoon: Dusty Rhodes is still entranced by the mystical spells of Jake Roberts here…
Gorilla Monsoon: Dick Murdoch is attacking Dusty Rhodes, meanwhile Jake Roberts is able to get the cowboy hat down off of the other ring post as he is now half way to winning this match!
Gorilla Monsoon: Jake Roberts now has the cowboy hat as well as the followers sheep mask as he has Dusty completely mesmerized. Dick Murdoch now clocks Dusty over the back of the head with the mystical club! This is just unbelievable, the mind games that Jake Roberts is playing with Dusty Rhodes and how much he has been able to get inside of his head.
Ken Resnick: That is the end of the match as Dick Murdoch hands the mystical club to Jake Roberts so he is now in possession of both the cowboy hat and the mystical club.
Gorilla Monsoon: Oh wait, c’mon now! It’s the Avalanche/747 Combo as that could easily mean a pair of broken ribs for Dusty. This is getting out of hand now!
Ken Resnick: Would you look at Jake Roberts as he has claimed total victory in this match as even though he already won, he's making the referee climb in the ring and count the pin. He's already won the match by claiming the club and the cowboy hat but Jake Roberts and his followers in the Snake Pit have Dusty Rhodes out cold and I'm not sure what's going to snap him out of it.
Ken Resnick: Jake Roberts is now putting a cloth over the top of Dusty Rhodes.
Jake Roberts: Here lies the American Dream it is now officially become the American Nightmare. Rest in peace Dusty, you will never ever be the same man…and will never be seen again.
Gorilla Monsoon: Oh let’s get out of this, this is just absolutely terrible to watch. We’ll be right back with our main event for the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.
Ken Resnick: And now moving on to our main event here at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania, we have triple threat match with the AWA, WWF and NWA titles all up for grabs. First off we see the NWA World Champion Ric Flair in the corner alongside him is Bob Geigel the President of the NWA who is also holding the brand new NWA championship belt which will be awarded the man who walks out of this match with that honor. Ric Flair with a neck brace remember as it was just two weeks ago back at AWA Clash of the Champions that Harley Race delivered a piledriver on Ric Flair down on top of the announcing table severely injuring his neck. We’ll have to see if Flair’s physical condition comes into play at all in this match.
Gorilla Monsoon: Over in the other corner is the World Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Champion, he is the “Immortal” Hulk Hogan! The World Wrestling Federation champion is being represented tonight by WWF promoter Vince McMahon. He’s got to be the favorite to walk out of this match with two titles around his waist and cement his legacy as one of the greatest champions of all time.
Ken Resnick: Finally we have the AWA World Heavyweight Champion Stan Hanson as he is represented by AWA President Stanley Blackburn at his side. Flair and Hanson have been clashing for quite some time now over the AWA World Title, will one of them finally get the final say in this match and take the other’s title?
Gorilla Monsoon: The referee in charge of this match is head AWA official Marty Miller as he has in his possession the AWA, the NWA and the WWF World Championship belts as all three men meet in the center of the ring for Miller’s final instructions. Remember if you pin or submit another man you win the title that he holds at this moment. One man will walk out with two titles, one will keep his title he has and the other will walk out with nothing. I don’t think there has ever been a match with this high of stakes in the history of professional wrestling.
Ken Resnick: Ric Flair immediately gets out of the ring to avoid further damage on that neck as Hulk Hogan and Stan Hanson start the battle in the center of the ring.
Gorilla Monsoon: Ric Flair down here by announce table and looks as though he's going to try and watch this match and maybe slip in a later time when it’s to his advantage and try to steal a fall.
Gorilla Monsoon: Hulk Hogan connects with a big atomic drop on Hanson as on the outside, Ric Flair has actually moved his way up to our announcers desk here as he is letting Hulk Hogan and Stan Hanson soften each other up and possibly go for the pin. What an opportunist Ric Flair is trying to be here.
Ken Resnick: A big clothesline here by Hulk Hogan. I have a feeling we may see Hogan walking out of AWA/WWF Wrestlemania here as both the WWF and the AWA World Heavyweight Champion if Stan Hanson keeps getting clobbered here the way he already has in this match.
Gorilla Monsoon: Hulk Hogan connects with the huge big boot to the chin of Stan Hanson. Stan Hanson goes down and we have seen this combination put many men away before as Hulk looks to be setting up for the big leg drop to finish this match off and collect the AWA title!
Ken Resnick: Hulk Hogan with the big leg drop as this is going to be it for the match and surprisingly, Ric Flair hasn't even entered the ring yet! His neck must really be in bad shape if he’s taking himself out of the line of fire here and not even entering this match to try and inflict pain on Stan Hanson for all that has gone on over the past few months. It looks like Hogan is going to walk away with two championship belts here after this contest.
Gorilla Monsoon: Hogan going for the pin here as referee Marty Miller is down for the count and we’ve got a count of one, count of two, count of the……
Ken Resnick: Ric Flair has taken off the neck brace and has just broken up the pin attempt of Hulk Hogan as he delivers a boot to the lower back region of Hogan!
Gorilla Monsoon: The ultimate opportunist, Ric Flair has thrown Hulk Hogan over the top rope leaving Stan Hanson in the middle of the ring as he is totally out of it after the big Hogan leg drop! It looks like it is just going to be Hanson and Flair now. Flair may seize the AWA title here as Hanson is still down from the Hogan big boo and leg drop combination!
Ken Resnick: Oh c’mon now, not this way! Not this way! After all the battles these two have gone through Flair is going to win the title like this! This can’t happen! Marty Miller is down for the count, one two…Ric Flair is going to win the title in this fashion I can't believe this!
Gorilla Monsoon: No! Ric Flair is NOT going win the title like this!!! Harley Race the disgruntled former member of the Four Horsemen has broken up the pin and dragged Ric Flair to the outside of the ring! Harley Race is still wanting to get complete revenge on the Four Horsemen for being kicked out all those months ago and what better way than to stop Flair from capturing the title for the second time in a row!
Ken Resnick: And the long line of Harley Race’s revenge piledrivers continues as I am not sure Blanchard even knew what hit him as he’s down and out here at ringside area. Race is trying to take out everybody in the Horseman with the piledriver and so far his plan seems to be working!
Gorilla Monsoon: Barry Windham is now coming out is now attacking Harley Race, meanwhile Tully Blanchard is out cold on the floor here at the Garden. But most important of all, Flair connects with a chair to the back of Hogan! That has got have incapacitated Hogan for the rest of this match. He got hit with the chair then hit his head into the steel ring steps when he was falling and I believe has been knocked out cold much like Tully Blanchard!
Ken Resnick: AWA Champion, Stan Hanson is in the ring all by himself and he’s got to be happy with how this is all turning out as he himself was almost the one to get pinned just a few minutes ago.
Gorilla Monsoon: Wait a minute…that’s, no… Bobby “the Brain” Heenan is apparently part of the fold of the Four Horsemen plans as he nails Stan Hanson with a right hand covered in a taped first with who knows what kind of object inside that tape! Ric Flair is distracting referee Marty Miller while all this is going on so he doesn’t see a thing!
Gorilla Monsoon: Ric Flair is putting on the four figure leg lock but I don't even think it's needed at this point as Stan Hanson is out for the count from that shot from Bobby Heenan! Marty Miller is counting Hanson’s shoulders down for the three count and we have a NEW AWA World Heavyweight Champion!
Ken Resnick: This is just absolutely ridiculous that Flair has recruited Bobby Heenan into the Horsemen as we have a new AWA Champion but still the NWA champion…Ric Flair.
Gorilla Monsoon: After the interference I think that apparently the new manager of the Four Horsemen is Bobby Heenan.
Ken Resnick: Gorilla Monsoon has joined the new AWA World Champion at ringside, over to you Gorilla!
Bobby Heenan: That's right Monsoon! That's right that Bobby “the Brain” Heenan has arrived here in the AWA. I am the new manager of the Four Horsemen and just when you thought these guys were already at the top of their game they are about to step things up yet another notch! Barry Windham, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson and of course the NEW AWA and STILL NWA World Champion, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, we’re here to win it all baby. You thought we ran this place before, just wait until we have all the titles here in the AWA, you just watch, mark my words!
Ken Resnick: Here comes Harley Race again with a steel chair as he does not look happy over what has transpired and he is looking to attack the Four Horsemen! This is such a volatile situation what a night we've seen! Join us next week for AWA-All Star Wrestling as we will be in the Omni in Atlanta for another big show. For Gorilla Monsoon, I am Ken Resnick, thanks for watching AWA/WWF Wrestlemania here at Madison Square Garden here in New York City! Good night everybody!
