Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to AWA Clash of the Champions live and free on your cable television station as we are here at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama as tonight the AWA presents this super card in conjunction with Southeastern Championship Wrestling! We are going to bring you four big matches tonight including three matches which will have all the titles here in the AWA on the line. We're going to start out with the AWA United States Championship match as Andy Kaufman continues his “Andy Kaufman’s Intergalactic Challenge”. Referee Marty Miller is already in the ring with the brand new AWA United States Championship title belt.
Andy Kaufman: Hey everybody! It's me! It's me again! The star of the show, Andy Kaufman! I am here with the AWA United States Championship belt and it is now time for another star studded edition of the “Andy Kaufman’s Intergalactic Challenge”! Let the games begin! Tonight I will have a real test in this ring. A man with a very strong amateur wrestling background who may or may not have a few losses on his record.. I believe my assistant, the one and only “Superstar” Billy Graham will be bringing my opponent down to the ring. Billy who do we have tonight?
Gordon Solie: My word would you look at this? Andy Kaufman has brought what I can only describe as a mannequin perhaps, into the ring.
ken Resnick: Is this maybe some sort of high school amateur wrestling training dummy that they practice on? I can tell you that this doll as it is, is not moving on its own and is being dragged into the ring by Billy Graham. It’s definitely not human.
Gordon Solie: I'm not really sure exactly what this thing is but all I know it’s not going to put up much of a fight even against Andy Kaufman.
Gordon Solie: What a challenger this is going to be. This wrestling training doll can't even stand up on its own two feet and Andy Kaufman is just making a complete and utter mockery of the AWA United States Championship. I really wish AWA President Stanley Blackburn would get in there and do something about what he's doing to the legacy of this championship. A worthy challenger is much needed to fight for this title.
Ken Resnick: Andy Kaufman is trying to make it look like this is a fight as he has wrapped the wrestling training dummy around his waist as Andy is “screaming” in pain here. But he is not fooling anyone as this is not a fair fight. Andy claims that this is a wrestler but we all know better than that.
Gordon Solie: This is a moment you will never ever see again. Andy Kaufman using his “strength” to lift his…I guess you can call his opponent over top of his head for his show of strength. I can pretty much guarantee you that Andy Kaufman will never have the strength advantage over an opponent ever again.
Ken Resnick: The wrestling dummy looks to have Andy Kaufman in a “hold” as in actuality it’s Andy Kaufman putting himself into a flying head spin. Andy is really playing along with all of this at this point and I can't believe that Kaufman has stooped so low as to fighting a wrestling dummy on one of the biggest shows the year for a major AWA championship.
Gordon Solie: Just when you think things can't get any worse here comes Andy Kaufman jumping off the top rope, whoops, hold on a second, let me correct myself, not the top rope but the bottom rope of the ring onto this wrestling dummy. This is just an absolute disgrace somebody needs to get in there and stop this match.
Ken Resnick: Thank goodness referee Marty Miller is down for the count as Andy Kaufman gets a three count and probably the most lopsided wrestling match you'll ever see in your entire life. What a joke this Intergalactic Challenge is.
Ken Resnick: Andy Kaufman is now getting his hand raised with the AWA United States Championship Belt but here comes AWA President Stanley Blackburn, let’s hear what he has to say.
Stanley Blackburn: Andy Kaufman, I'm tired of this I am tired of the mockery you have been making one of the AWA’s prestigious titles. I'm tired of this “Intergalactic Challenge” that you have going on and it’s time for it all to end. It’s time for you to have a legitimate challenger for that title. In two weeks, I am making the announcement right now, we will be in New York City at Madison Square Garden and will be working alongside the WWF to promote Wrestlemania. At that event you are going to defend the AWA United States Championship against an opponent of MY choosing. I'm not going to tell you who your opponent is right now until I can get the contract signed and make it official but next week on AWA All-star Wrestling TV you will find out who your opponent is!
Ken Resnick:Well here we go with our next match that has got a lot of bad blood as we have “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan along with “Cowboy” Bill Watts taking on the Fabulous Freebirds team of Michael “PS” Hayes as well as Terry” Bam Bam” Gordy. We get a good look at Michael Hayes before this match as he is taunting Bill Watts with that can of Freebird Hair Cream. We saw Watts was incensed last week on AWA All-Star Wrestling when he brought out Junkyard Dog who had his eyes blinded at the AWA Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team Tournament when that Freebird Hair Cream was put into his eyes causing blindness. Watts brought out the Dog last week who needs to wear a towel over his face to help heal the acid burns as well as keep the bright sunlight out of his eyes which are still sensitive and healing.
Gordon Solie: This match could get very interesting I believe as there is a lot of bad blood to be spilled in this match especially between Watts and Hayes.
Gordon Solie: This match is going to start out with the two big bruisers in the ring as it is going to be Jim Duggan and Terry Gordy. But look in that corner as Michael Hayes just left that Freebird Hair Cream sitting in the corner and I'm not sure referee Jerry Calhoun notices it.
Ken Resnick: Bill Watts has been begging for Jim Duggan's tag and Bill Watts wants to get his hands on the Freebirds in the worst way as he is calling out Michael Hayes! Michael seems to want nothing to do with Bill Watts at this moment and looking at the fire in the eyes of Bill Watts, I can’t say I blame him!
Ken Resnick: Watts is going to go ahead and get his revenge first on Terry Gordy, as I guess anybody that's in association with Michael Hayes definitely is going to draw the ire of Bill Watts as he slams Terry Gordy's head into those turnbuckles. Those turnbuckles are very unforgiving as it is just a piece of cloth over a metal buckle. Definitely not something you want your head bouncing off of!
Gordon Solie: Bill Watts connects with a big atomic drop on Terry Gordy as Watts all by himself has the Fabulous Freebirds reeling in this match already. But you know he definitely wants to get his hands on Michael Hayes for the blinding of the Junkyard Dog and get even in more ways than one.
Ken Resnick: After that big huge atomic drop, there goes Terry Gordy flying over the top rope and onto the hard floor of the Boutwell Auditorium. That only leaves only one man in the corner of the Fabulous Freebirds and that man is Michael Hayes. He is going to have to join this match and Bill Watts is licking his chops that he finally gets his chance for revenge.
Gordon Solie: Jerry Calhoun is trying to count out Terry Gordy while hold on a moment, Michael Hayes has grabbed the Freebird Hair Cream and he's coming after Bill Watts but Jim Duggan cuts him off at the pass and just sent Michael Hayes tumbling with his big three point stance football tackle!
Ken Resnick: After the big three point stance tackle by Jim Duggan, Bill Watts is able to get the pin on Michael Hayes in this match as the Freebird Hair Cream was sent flying halfway across the ring! The winners of this match are Bill Watts and Jim Duggan!
Gordon Solie: Bill Watts is getting his hand raised and…. hold on a minute! That is Buddy Roberts! The third member of the Fabulous Freebirds who has had a mysterious absence from the team until now! Buddy Roberts attacks and he just laid that solid steel chair right into the head of Jim Duggan! That is just absolutely unbelievable that Buddy Roberts has arrived here in the AWA and joined alongside Hayes and Gordy to make the Fabulous Freebirds at full strength!
Ken Resnick: Buddy Roberts is not through with this attack either as there he goes again and lays out Watts with the chair. The Fabulous Freebirds are now in full force here in the AWA with Buddy Roberts joining the fray. I cannot believe that we are seeing all three of the Fabulous Freebirds in force, what a heinous and underhanded attack we have just witnessed!
Michael Hayes: Watts, you thought you could get one over on us! You were mistaken. Look at you know as you are below me right now. I might as well be sitting in a recliner at home right now because Duggan is my foot rest! So I'll tell you what's going to happen right here right now. In a couple weeks at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania it's going to be us the three of us against you, Duggan and whoever you can drag out of the pit holes of the professional wrestling world that’s stupid enough to team with you. And I’ll make it one better for you Watts, let’s make it a Badstreet Rules match. A come as you are street fight. The battle of the South is on, it’s Georgia vs. Oklahoma and just like they say in the song, the devils are in Georgia!

Gordon Solie: Moving on here at AWA Clash of the Champions it is now time for the AWA World Tag Team Title match as the family duo of Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin who last week we saw win the AWA Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team Tournament and the belts, will be going up against a team that I guess you can say has been in no short supply of problems lately as it’s the team of Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude who won a number one contenders match last week on AWA All-Star Wrestling. Now the big news coming out of this is that Gilbert and Rude have boxed Precious into a corner and she has been told that she needs to choose tonight who she wants to stay with. It’s either one or the other. Will it Gilbert or Rude that she chooses? Which man’s heart will she break and which man’s heart will she be falling in love with?
?58
Ken Resnick: Well we see that Rude has entered the ring but we I do not see any sign of Eddie Gilbert wanting to enter the ring.. Rude has got to be a little leery here of entering the ring all by himself to face the tag team champions, as Precious now stands between the two of them and we will see exactly who she chooses, it is decision time.
Eddie Gilbert:Alright, Precious this is it! Who are you going to choose? Is it me or is it Rude? It is time to make the call. There can only be one in this group, you can only belong to one man, who's it going?! Time make your decision!
Precious: Eddie, I am very grateful for everything you have done for me. My career would not be where it is today without you welcoming me into Hot Stuff International. But I am sorry Eddie, my heart belongs to Rick. I am going with him!
Gordon Solie: Precious has made her decision and it is Rick Rude who she will now be the valet of and not Eddie Gilbert. Eddie Gilbert looks just a little depressed to say the least but remember that Gilbert and Rude still have this tag team title match even though she picked Rude.
Rick Rude: That's right Gilbert! She picked me, because I am the love of her life, not you! Now get out of the ring, go stand in the corner so I can win the title belts for myself!
Ken Resnick: That’s strange, Jimmy Garvin is standing there staring at Precious even though she turned her back on him all those months ago. Jimmy Garvin remember was the original boyfriend and I guess you can say that Precious is his former girlfriend. Jimmy seems a little bit heartbroken here still as he may still be just a tad smitten with Precious and he's looking at her over there in the corner while Rick Rude looks like he might be ready to pounce and possibly win those tag team titles while love distracts Jimmy Garvin.
Ken Resnick: This match is getting going as Eddie Gilbert is not in the corner of Rick Rude as Rude puts Jimmy Garvin in a front face lock to gain the early momentum in this match.
Gordon Solie: Rick Rude is really going to work here on Jimmy Garvin as remember he has no tag team partner over in that corner. Referee Marty Miller is trying to get the break here as this is an illegal maneuver in the ropes.
?91
Ken Resnick: Jimmy Garvin is able to tag and Ronnie Garvin is able to get Rick Rude up on the ropes and he’s going to hit him with a diamond cutter.
?212
Gordon Solie: Rude better watch it here as Ronnie Garvin is winding up with that big Hands of Stone punch. Ronnie looks like he is ready to wind up as Rude is really begging for mercy but I don't think he’ll get any of the mercy as the Garvins want to keep those tag team title belts in their possession.
Ken Resnick: Ronnie Garvin connects with the Hands of Stone punch as poor Rude is down for the count but wait a minute…what is going on outside the ring? Eddie Gilbert is confronting Precious and he seems to be asking her why he didn’t get chosen over Rude. Gilbert is more of a sore loser that we thought I guess.
Gordon Solie: Rude doesn’t know that Eddie Gilbert has jumped up on the apron here and he is confronting Ronnie Garvin meanwhile Jimmy Garvin who I think still has not gotten over his break up with Precious seems to be asking Precious why she won't come back to him instead of going with Rude.
Ken Resnick: Wait a minute! Precious looks like she was trying to throw salt in the eyes of Rude! But yet she hit both men with the salt! Was she aiming for Rude? Was she aiming for Garvin? Whose side is she really on?!
Ken Resnick: Rude using a bit of instinct has rolled over and put his arm over top of Jimmy Garvin. Eddie Gilbert is confronting Ronnie Garvin over the corner while referee Marty Miller is down for the three count and we have new AWA Tag Team Champions in the unlikely duo of Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude even though I don't think they'll be able to coexist but none the less they are your new champions.
Gordon Solie: Ronnie Garvin is helping Jimmy try to get the salt out of his eyes while I don't still think that Rude has come to from the Hands of Stone and salt in the eyes back to back. It looks as though Precious has now chosen Eddie Gilbert instead of Rick Rude but it looks like Eddie Gilbert's plan has backfired in his attempt to finally rid himself of Rude’s company as now they are the new AWA Tag Team Champions and will be contractually obligated to be together if they want to keep those titles.
Gordon Solie: Rude is now finally coming to and I think he now understand the significance of what just happened as Hot Stuff International was supposed to split forever tonight but now they must coexist together if they want to keep the golden belts that represent the AWA World Tag Team Championship. What an interesting situation we have here as seemingly in one night Precious chose Rude but all along was in cahoots with Eddie Gilbert to get one over on Rude.
Gordon Solie: It is now time for our main event here at AWA Clash of the Champions as we see referee Jerry Calhoun holding up the unified AWA/NWA World Heavyweight Championship belt which will be fought over between AWA World Champion Stan Hanson and NWA World Champion Ric Flair.
Ken Resnick: Look at the intense stare down that these two men are having before the biggest match in AWA history and perhaps the biggest match in the history of professional wrestling.
Gordon Solie: This match starts with the fists a flying as there is definitely no love lost between these two as they have just been absolutely after one another over the past few weeks and finally they meet face to face to settle all their grudges. These two are battling it out and they are battling hard as somebody may get knocked out here with one of those wild haymaker punches that are being thrown around right now.
Ken Resnick: Ric Flair going back to his old dirty games as he's put some fingers into the eyes of Stan Hanson to gain the advantage in this match up. We never seem to know how low Flair will stoop to gain an advantage and win a match.
Gordon Solie: Ric Flair utilizing the abdominal stretch here as he is working over the midsection of Stan Hanson. Flair is also stretching out that arm presumably so that Stan Hanson cannot hit him with that Lariat clothesline that Hanson has finished many opponents off with.
Ken Resnick: Stan Hanson is now coming back in this match as he has pounded down Flair to his knees with a flurry of punches. This match is going back-and-forth it's more of a brawl than a wrestling match at this point. I can’t say I am surprised by that though.
Gordon Solie: Now something that we usually don't see out of Stan Hanson is a technical hold as he has Ric Flair in a Boston Crab working over those knees so that possibly it would be Ric Flair on the other hand that cannot lock in his finishing hold that dreaded Figure Four on Stan Hanson.
Ken Resnick: Stan Hanson is now going for the finish as he connects with the Lariat clothesline on Ric Flair and looks like Stan Hanson is about to capture both the AWA and NWA World titles!
Gordon Solie: Stan Hanson is going for the pin to finish this match off but hold on a minute Tully Blanchard is up on the apron as he is distracting Hanson so that he cannot pin the unconscious Ric Flair who just got knocked out with the big Lariat clothesline!
Gordon Solie: The odds are about to evened up here as former Four Horsemen member, Harley Race is up on the apron as he looks to try and take care of Tully Blanchard on behalf of Ric Flair. Flair seems to have gotten his senses back and he's about to go behind Hanson and looks like he may be trying to back suplex Hanson.
Ken Resnick: Flair with the back suplex and as he goes for the three count, he isn’t able to bridge because Harley Race is holding his feet down. Referee Jerry Calhoun makes the three count and it looks as though Ric Flair is going to be the winner in this match and claim both of the world titles!
Gordon Solie: Ric Flair is claiming all three of the championship belts but I'm not sure that he can even make a claim to even one of them as I believe that may have been a double pin!
Ken Resnick: Jerry Calhoun is taking the AWA title as well as the AWA/NWA Unified title away from Ric Flair! What is the decision going to be here as AWA President Stanley Blackburn is now in the ring to try make a decision here as Jerry Calhoun has given Stan Hanson the AWA title back and has given Ric the NWA title back but I am not sure either man can lay claim to the possession of the new Unified Championship!
Gordon Solie: The referee has made his decision, let's listen in.
Jerry Calhoun: I have made the decision that there is a double pin that neither man got their shoulders up and both men's shoulders were on the mat at the time the pinfall was counted. Therefore Stan Hanson retains his AWA title and Ric Flair retains his NWA title.
Stanley Blackburn: Well, there you have it, that is my official decision that both men retain their titles and nobody gets the AWA/NWA Unified Championship belt. I have to agree with Mr. Calhoun's decision that no titles change hands and both men keep their titles.
Gordon Solie: There is Stanley Blackburn with the official decision that both men will keep their championship belts.
Ken Resnick: Hold on a second here as showing up is the shunned member of the Four Horsemen, Harley Race again and he is attacking Ric Flair! You know he said that he's got it in for every single one of the Four Horsemen and wants to get revenge on them one by one as he looks to be going in and trying to do that right now by cutting the head off the snake in Ric Flair!
Gordon Solie: Jerry Calhoun and Stanley Blackburn are trying to hold him back but Harley Race looks like he's going to try and deliver a piledriver on top of our announce table!
Ken Resnick: Oh what a sickening thud as Flair’s head bounces off the table with that piledriver! I can't believe that Harley Race is trying to get revenge on all the Four Horsemen in such a vicious manner after being kicked out of the group after Flair said he cost him the AWA World Title back at War Games.
Gordon Solie: Ken, do you see what is going on here on the other side of the ring? Stan Hanson who already has the AWA title belt in his possession is now looking at the NWA World title which is just lying in the ring while the others all have their attention turned to Flair and Race outside the ring on top of us.
Ken Resnick: We are just about out of time here as Harley Race is laying the punches into Flair’s head while he is laying on the table. Meanwhile, Stan Hanson has grabbed both of the titles and is heading to the locker room with them! Folks, this is such a volatile situation that we hope to address next week on AWA All-Star Wrestling. We will also have more news on the AWA/WWF Wrestlemania card next week on AWA All-Star Wrestling. But for now that's it from the Boutwell Auditorium here in Birmingham, Alabama! Good night everybody!
