Verne Gagne: And welcome to another action packed and exciting episode of AWA All-Star Wrestling. This week we are well on our way to our next pay per view show, Wrestlerock, which will be emanating from the AWA Theater in just one week’s time.
Ken Resnick: And what a way to start out this week’s action than with a semifinal match in the Frank Gotch Memorial Tournament. We are down to four combatants in this prestigious tournament. They’re all fighting for the prize of the gold trophy as well as maybe more importantly, a show at the AWA World Heavyweight Championship which is currently held by Stan Hanson. And in this week’s first matchup is Dynamite kid taking on the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair.
Ken Resnick: And starting off the action in a hot and heavy way is Ric Flair. As he has already taken down Dynamite Kid and is proceeding to stomp directly on his head. We’ve seen a bit of attitude change from Flair over the past few weeks ever since he feels he himself was cheated out of the AWA World Title when Stan Hanson used the interference of Terry Funk to capture the crown.
Verne Gagne: Looks like Flair has a firm grasp on this match as he continues to work over the leg of Dynamite Kid. You know he’s got to be softening him up for that Figure Four.
Ken Resnick: I can’t help but notice that it seems as if Ric Flair may be a little off his game. Could it be that he’s losing focus in his quest for the title?
Verne Gagne: And just like that after losing his focus for just one moment, Dynamite Kid has seized the opportunity and is attacking with a beautiful Double Underhook German Suplex on Flair.
Ken Resnick: I think Flair is in trouble here. He seems to be down and possibly out. This could spell trouble for Flair!
Ken Resnick: Referee Marty Miller is down in position for the count after that flurry of offense out of Dynamite Kid. And there’s the three count!
Verne Gagne: And moving on to the finals at Wrestlerock is your winner Dynamite Kid. He’ll go on to face the winner of the Scott Hall and Kerry Von Erich match which will see a little later on.
Ken Resnick: Something was definitely not right with Flair there. I’ll be interested to see where that leads him. His attitude seems to be changing very rapidly.
Abdullah the Butcher: Abdullah in the cage. Abdullah afraid of no giant. Abdullah is champion. Abdullah is king. Abdullah is leader. Abdullah say at Wrestlerock…steel cage. Abdullah say first man to escape win. Abdullah no need to say your name. Abdullah say nothing scare him.
Ken Resnick: You heard it here first. At AWA Wrestlerock we will see Abdullah the Butcher taking on Andre The Gia…….
Abdullah the Butcher: AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Abdullah say no say that name! Abdullah scared of nothing else…..except the mention of that name!
Ken Resnick: And it looks like the mere mention of the name Andre the Giant has Abdullah the Butcher climbing cages and running for the hills. He better start practicing because he’s going to need all the speed and stealth he can get to escape the wrath of Andre next week!
Verne Gagne: Oh here comes quite the crew.
Eddie Gilbert: Hey Resnick, shut it. I’m out here to talk about one thing. Jimmy Garvin. Garvin, last time I was in this ring you put your hands on me…and I wasn’t even signed to be in the match! Now I could get my high powered New York City lawyers involved and drag this out for years to come and in the end, you’ll be living under a bridge. But I’m willing to settle this like men. So get yourself down here!
Jimmy Garvin: Oh Eddie. Of course you’ll drag lawyers and such into this. But that’s not me. Something more important to me is at stake. You made the love of my life, Precious, turn her back on me. I’ve been crushed, I’ve been heart broken. I can’t believe you were able to pull this all off.
Eddie Gilbert: You done with the pity speech? Are you? I got a deal for you. AWA Wrestlerock let’s settle this, loser leaves town for 30 days. If you lose, well, I get what I want, you gone. You win, and well, I’m gone, and I’ll even up it one bit more, you get the contracts of the Long Riders and more important to you, Precious.
Jimmy Garvin: Deal! You got yourself a deal.
Eddie Gilbert: You think I’m going to give that all to you for nothing? Just one thing…..
Eddie Gilbert: You have to defeat the Long Riders in a handicap match, RIGHT NOW!
Ken Resnick: Well, talk about a unfair situation! I guess if Jimmy Garvin wants his shot at Hot Stuff then he’s going to have to take on both the Long Riders here tonight!
Verne Gagne: And Bill and Scott Irwin start out the beat down on Jimmy Garvin with the double backdrop. Jimmy is missing his back up in Steve Regal, since Regal is off on a tour of Japan and unable to be by his friend’s side.
Ken Resnick: Things aren’t looking good for Jimmy Garvin here. Jimmy’s hopes and dreams of one day winning Precious back may be slowly slipping away.
Ken Resnick: And when you ask Jimmy Garvin what his most valuable commodity is, it’s probably his face. But the Long Riders are trying to make that commodity market come crashing down by crushing his face with those bare knuckled close fists. I’m really surprised we haven’t seen any blood spilled in this match as well.
Verne Gagne: I think we now know what the devious plan of Eddie Gilbert was all along. This is a conniving, sneaky, cheat. This guy would probably sell you beach front property in Idaho if you gave him the chance.
Verne Gagne: Ah, looks like the Long Riders may be celebrating just a bit too soon in this one.
Eddie Gilbert: Turn around! Turn around!
Ken Resnick: Jimmy Garvin is stirring, he’s using the cheers of the AWA Studios crowd to will himself to his feet!
Verne Gagne: Oh no, Jimmy is taking his eye off the prize! He’s got his attention on Precious when he should have his attention turned on the Long Riders or maybe mostly on Eddie Gilbert.
Ken Resnick: And it looks like Eddie Gilbert has something up his sleeve. He’s got Garvin’s attention diverted by Precious and he’s got the Long Riders on the other side of the ring as well for backup.
Verne Gagne: Eddie Gilbert the dumbbell of Jimmy Garvin and he’s about to….wait, Garvin has snatched the dumbbell from Eddie Gilbert!
Ken Resnick: Better watch it, if he gets himself disqualified he’ll get his shot at Eddie Gilbert taken away with a loss in the record books.
Verne Gagne: That a boy! Hit that Irwin right between the eyes!
Ken Resnick: Thanks to the interference of Eddie Gilbert, his good intentions have turned into bad ones as Jimmy Garvin has used the dumbbell that Eddie Gilbert introduced into the match and is pummeling the Long Riders!
Ken Resnick: I’m not really sure where Marty Miller was when all this was happening but as far as he can see Jimmy Garvin is on top for the pin and he’s making the three count. Eddie Gilbert’s worst nightmares are about to come true.
Verne Gagne: Oh revenge will be so sweet for Jimmy Garvin come Wrestlerock.
Jimmy Garvin: You know Eddie, you got to name your stipulations on the match. So now that I just defeated your bodyguards the Long Riders, I get to name my own stipulation for Wrestlerock. You want to bring my dumbbells into the match? This coming week at Wrestlerock, it’s going to be a Dumbbell Match. The dumbbell will be placed high above the ring and the first person to get ahold of the dumbbell gets to use it on his opponent.
Eddie Gilbert: You got it. You got it. This is it. You just signed your own death warrant!
ken Resnick: There you go, there you have it. Eddie Gilbert and Jimmy Garvin meet in a Dumbbell match at Wrestlerock. Loser leaves town for 30 days and the winner also gets control of the contracts of the Long Riders and Precious!
Verne Gagne: Due to time constraints this week, we are joining the following match which is already in progress.
Ken Resnick: This is the second semifinal match in the Frank Gotch Memorial Tournament which pits Kerry Von Erich against the fast rising Scott Hall. Remember that the winner of this match will move onto AWA’s next big event…Wrestlerock, next week to take on Dynamite Kid in the finals.
Ken Resnick: And it looks as if Kerry Von Erich is trying to punch his ticket to Wrestlerock rather quickly as he already has Scott Hall on the ropes…literally! He’s setting him up for a Super Powerslam from the top rope as referee Marty Miller admonishes Kerry with a five count to get down off the top rope.
Verne Gagne: The pure strength that Kerry possesses is unbelievable. To lift a man with the bulk and strength of Scott Hall must take him a super human effort.
Ken Resnick: And this could be it! Kerry is going for that patented Von Erich family Iron Claw hold! We’ve seen him put down countless opponents with this move. Could this be it for the Cinderella run of Scott Hall and his title hopes?!
Verne Gagne: But Scott Hall is fighting back as he has blocked the Iron Claw and seems to be going “muscle for muscle” with Kerry Von Erich in this strength battle in a true test of wills. This is a pivotal point in this matchup!
Verne Gagne: Scott Hall has somehow managed to reverse the Iron Claw and has changed the entire complexion of this match with a big back body drop which has Kerry Von Erich reeling to the outside!
Ken Resnick: Scott Hall has that fighting spirit in him. I’d really love to see him win this tournament and finally take that title away from Stan Hanson. The guy really deserves what’s coming to him.
Verne Gagne: Speaking of what’s coming to him. There’s Scott Hall checking out the gorgeous solid gold Frank Gotch Memorial trophy. I think he sees his reflection in it and is thinking of all the possibilities that could occur with his winning of that priceless trophy.
Ken Resnick: Ahhhh…Scott might not want to take his eyes off the prize, but he better quick because….
Ken Resnick: Kerry Von Erich just connected with a huge dropkick right to the face while Scott Hall was checking out his own reflection.
[Verne Gagne: Take your eyes off the goal for one second and all those hopes and dreams you’ve been striving for can be gone in that one second!
Ken Resnick: Kerry Von Erich has seized the opportunity and there it is, the fabled Von Erich Iron Claw has been applied and locked on. Scott Hall’s one little mistake is going to cost him huge in this matchup.
Verne Gagne: Although, it looks as if Scott is starting to stir out of this hold and may have a little something left in the tank.
Ken Resnick: Well he better find those fumes he’s running on at the bottom of the tank real quick or this one is over!
Ken Resnick: Whoa! What a maneuver! Scott Hall reversed the iron Claw into a backslide pin attempt and somehow manages to get the three count!
Verne Gagne: I’ve seen the Von Erich family use the Iron Claw for years now and I have never seen anyone reverse the hold like that way that Scott Hall just did. Unbelievable. I guess you never know what you’re going to see next in the AWA!
Ken Resnick: And Dynamite Kid has made his way out to our announce position here to confront Scott Hall in advance of their huge matchup next week at AWA Wrestlerock. This is going to be a matchup of epic proportions that no one is going to want to miss.
Dynamite Kid: You want this trophy Scotty boy? You’re going to have to go through me to get it.
Scott Hall: Boy? Boy? You want to call me boy? I’ll teach you the difference between a boy and a man when we step in the ring next week. You just opened a whole can of worms with that statement.
Verne Gagne: Next week…Dynamite Kid and Scott Hall meet one in the finals of the tournament with the Frank Gotch Memorial Trophy on the line as well as a shot at the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.
Verne Gagne: Oh no, not these guys. They already put my son Greg in a neck brace and out of action of an indefinite period of time. Now they’re out here again?
Paul Ellering: Hahahahaha. Mr. Gagne, where’s the other Gagne? Oh that’s right. Not here! The Hawk and the Animal put him out of action probably…forever! Now my biggest question that I came out here for is that AWA President Stanley Blackburn has still not named our opponent for Wrestlerock. And speaking of open contracts, it appears that we have one for a singles bout on this show. So who’s going to come out and get beat up?
Ken Resnick: And that’s the Puerto Rican sensation Carlos Colon answering the bell has he has snuck up on Road Warrior Hawk and is on the attack.
Verne Gagne: well let’s hope that Carlos Colon can exact some revenge on the Road Warriors for the sake of all the fans of Greg Gagne around the world.
Ken Resnick: But just like that Hawk has turned the tables and connects with a neck breaker on Carlos Colon. Verne, you may bash these guys, but you can’t knock their in ring abilities.
Verne Gagne: But I can knock their out of the ring antics. These guys deserve a come uppance. My poor son is lying in a bed in Robinsdale, Minnesota recuperating from neck surgery. These guys deserve everything that’s coming to them and then some.
Ken Resnick: And here’s hawk applying the Torture Rack to Carlos Colon. I have a feeling that it’s only a matter of time.
Ken Resnick: And there is the signature maneuver of hawk as he dives from the middle rope and connects with the flying shoulder tackle.
Verne Gagne: Hawk with a flying tackle and it looks like he’s going to go for the pin.
Ken Resnick: And you would be correct Verne as Marty Miller is down for the count and Hawk puts another win in the record books beside his name with a victory over Carlos Colon.
Verne Gagne: You know Ken, I lied to Paul Ellering. I do know who the contenders are. Well kind of. It’s a couple guys who don’t want you to know who they are…The Masked Mercenaries!
Ken Resnick: Well, I’m not sure who these two are. They have white masks over their faces and camouflage fatigues. But other than that, I don’t recognize these two guys at all.
Verne Gagne: Well in all my years of travels up and down the wrestling road, I don’t recognize either of these guys. I was just handed the note during that last match that their names are the Masked Mercenaries but I don’t know the identity of the men beneath the masks.
Masked Mercenary #1: Paul Ellering, you wanted to know who would be challenging the Road Warriors for the AWA World Tag Team Championship at Wrestlerock? You’re looking at them.
Paul Ellering: wait a minute, my men aren’t going to face a couple men whose identities we do not know!
Masked Mercenary #2: You will soon find out our identities. We have been paid by an anonymous party to collect the bounty we have been paid to collect.
Paul Ellering: A bounty? Who put you up to this? Was it that Greg Gagne? You know what, I don’t care, we’ll meet you at Wrestlerock and soon you’ll have to pay that bounty money back, because you’re not going to be able to collect!
Verne Gagne: Well that does it for this edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling. But before we leave you, we wanted to give you a rundown of the matchups you’ll see next week at AWA Wrestlerock. Ken Resnick: Andre the Giant will be taking on Abdullah the Butcher in a steel cage match. Jimmy Garvin and Eddie Gilbert meet in a Dumbbell Match. The loser leaves town for 30 days and the winner gets control of the contracts of the Long Riders and Precious. Scott Hall and the Dynamite Kid face off in the finals of the Frank Gotch Memorial Tournament with the winner receiving a shot at the AWA World Title. The Road Warriors defend their AWA World Tag Team Championships against the new team arriving on the scene of the Masked Mercenaries. And finally AWA World Champion Stan Hanson and tag team partner Terry Funk take on Jerry Blackwell and an unnamed mystery partner.
Stan Hanson: Wait a second. About this whole mystery partner business. Down south we face men straight ahead. We don’t hide behind a white cowboy hat. You tell me who this guy is.
Verne Gagne: Stan, we honestly don’t know who’s cowboy hat that is.
Jerry Blackwell: You want to know so badly, I’ll tell you….at Wrestlerock.
Stan Hanson: You’re a chicken. This white hat guy is a chicken. Instead he sends you out here wearing his white hat. Terry and I are going to beat you and then beat him and take that white cowboy hat and put it in my steer wrestling trophy case!
Jerry Blackwell: We will see you at Wrestlerock. And you’ll never expect who’s coming to the party.
Stan Hanson: Bring it on chicken!
Ken Resnick: That’s it for this week, we will see you at Wrestlerock!
