Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to another edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling. Tonight we are north of the border as we are coming to you from the Kerrisdale Arena here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Tonight we have an AWA World Heavyweight title match on the card which is rarely seen here on All-Star Wrestling as Ric Flair defends against Bam Bam Bigelow. I am joined here at ringside tonight by the one and only Eddie Gilbert.
Eddie Gilbert: North of the border….oh what a pain that was. They were saying at the border I was in some sort of legal trouble? Something over my dealings with Hot Stuff International and the investors? Nah…anyways, here’s a guy that would probably rather be in Nashville right now than here in the cold arctic of Canada. The Honky Tonk Man makes his way to the ring as tonight he will be taking on Jim Brunzell.
Ken Resnick: Maybe the Honky Tonk Man will not be taking on Jim Brunzell! Roddy Piper has come storming down the entrance way and just clobbered the Honky Tonk Man right over the back of the head with his bagpipes! The grudge between these two and their differing types of music has flared up here in the AWA and now Roddy has resorted to a sneak attack.
Eddie Gilbert: The bagpipes…who plays the bagpipes? Somebody that’s full of a lot of hot air, that’s who. Look no further than a guy like Roddy Piper for a lot of hot air.
Eddie Gilbert: ah, this isn’t right! Honky Tonk Man has a record album cover photo shoot next week and he’s got to have his pretty looking face gracing the cover! Instead Piper is trying to mess it all up by grating his face on those steel ring steps!
Roddy Piper: Next week is AWA Survivor Series and I am issuing a challenge to the Honky Tonk Man. You versus me and the winner of the match get to destroy the loser’s musical instrument right here in the middle of the ring. If you think that country music is so much superior to the sweet Scottish sounds, then you’ll meet me in the ring next week!
Ken Resnick: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling as we are joined by Gino Hernandez and Missy Hyatt in the locker room area. Gino, we saw last week the offer made by Rick Rude in order for you to join Simply Ravishing. It was a “simply stunning” deal I must say for the $20,000 her offered. However, it came with a bit of hesitation on your part as he only wanted you and not Missy. What are your thoughts on this?
Gino Hernandez: Like I have said in the past, it’s a package deal. It’s not just me, it’s not just Missy, and you get both when we sign the dotted line. We are the AWA’s hottest free agents. I was frankly insulted by the offer of $20,000 last week by Rick Rude and the fact he didn’t want Missy in his group. Missy Hyatt is the premier woman in the AWA today, she is at the top of the charts, and no one is ahead of her, even Sensational Sherri.
Sensational Sherri: Excuse me?!
Rick Rude: Calm down Sherri, he hasn’t come around yet. Gino, what do I need to do to get you to come over to Simply Ravishing? More money, is that what you need? I’ll tell you what Gino, since $20,000 wasn’t enough to leave Missy and come with us, how about $50,000?!
Gino Hernandez: Hmmmmm……
Missy Hyatt: Gino…….
Ken Resnick: Did I just sense some hesitation from Gino Hernandez? We will continue to keep you updated on these contract negotiations. But for now, we’ll head to this commercial break.
Ken Resnick: The new talent just keeps flowing into the AWA here as tonight we will see the debut of a new tag team as we will see Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton, collectively known as the Fantastics taking on the super heavyweight team of One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy.
Eddie Gilbert: It’ll be “fantastic” to watch when these two goofs don’t realize what they got themselves into in their first match and they get absolutely demolished by the Gang and Bundy.
Ken Resnick: And here comes King Kong Bundy and One Man Gang. These two have had a rough go if it as of late as after Jake Roberts disappeared after AWA Superdome Spectacular, these two have not been mentally into their matches and have got on a rather unusual losing streak. Tonight they look to turn it around against the newcomers which just as Eddie said, may not know what they have got themselves into.
Eddie Gilbert: What is going on here? Isn’t that a member of the AWA Ring Crew?
Ken Resnick: Yes, you are correct Eddie, that’s ring crew member, George Gadaski as he is bringing what looks to be an object on a silver platter to the ring. Could this be some kind of sign or message from Jake Roberts?
Eddie Gilbert: King Kong Bundy has pulled the linen covering off of the object and it’s….
Ken Resnick: It’s the sheep followers mask of Jake Roberts!
Eddie Gilbert: It’s a sign, it’s a sign….he’s on his way back to save the day! He must be here tonight in this building!
Ken Resnick: These two have taken the mask and now they are heading to the locker room area to continue their quest to find the whereabouts of Jake Roberts.
Eddie Gilbert: Gang…Bundy! Where are you going?!
Ken Resnick: These two don’t realize it but referee Earl Hebner is putting the count on them and they have been counted out of this match! The winners in this match via count out, the Fantastics! We’ll be right back with the AWA United States Champion, Jerry Lawler.
Ken Resnick: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling as Jerry Lawler gets set for non-title action as he will be taking on Baron Von Raschke. Lawler is flanked by his new ally in the war against Andy Kaufman and his Cabaret of Hollywood Stars, “Superstar” Billy Graham.
Eddie Gilbert: How many times do I have to tell you Resnick? He’s not in the Cabaret anymore so he no longer should be using the Superstar name!
Ken Resnick: Hold on a second here, that’s not Baron Von Raschke! That’s John Studd!
Eddie Gilbert: Well no crap Sherlock!
Jerry Lawler: What are you doing out here Studd? I already beat you for the AWA US title, you need to get out of my way and give me my fair shot at Kaufman!
Ken Resnick: Now what is this? We saw him order John Studd to body slam Lawler off a ladder and through a table in the locker room area last week, now he’s on top of the ladder?
Eddie Gilbert: That’s right, Andy is number one! He is at the top rung of the ladder in professional wrestling!
Andy Kaufman: You can’t touch me Lawler! How was that nice fall from the ladder you had last week? Short trip and a hard fall! Hahahahaha!
Ken Resnick: Andy better stop the laughing and gets his wits about him because Andre the Giant is right behind him and doesn’t look happy, especially after Kaufman and Studd cost him his dignity and his hair back at AWA Superdome Spectacular!
Ken Resnick: Andre just pushed the ladder over with his monumental amount of strength and the crown has went flying off the head of Kaufman and directly into the hands of Jerry Lawler!
Jerry Lawler: You want this crown back Kaufman?
Andy Kaufman: Ya…yea…I do!
Jerry Lawler: I figured you’d say that. Well, then you’re going to have to earn it, because let’s face it, you never did earn it to begin with. Next week at AWA Survivor Series since you’re so fond of ladders let’s end this between us once and for all. We’ll have a ladder match with the crown hanging high from the rafters of the arena. You, Studd and Hennig against me, Billy and of course, Andre! The team that gets the crown down claims the kingdom for either you or me.
Andy Kaufman: This isn’t fair Lawler, give me my crown back, its mine!
Jerry Lawler: Well if you want it back, agree to the match!
Andy Kaufman: Fine…fine….but, if my team wins, I get to shave your head too!
Jerry Lawler: I’ll agree to that if you gets in the ring with me!
Ken Resnick: It’s on a ladder match for the crown at AWA Survivor Series!
Ken Resnick: Next up, Gordon Solie will be in the ring for an interview with the AWA World Tag Team Champions as we look to get to the bottom of the sudden strife that has hit the team of Chris Adams and Terry Taylor.
Eddie Gilbert: Strife? There’s no strife. Terry Taylor is the star of this team and Chris Adams just needs to come to that realization!
Ken Resnick: Looks like Chris Adams wanted to walk down to the ring shoulder to shoulder in a show of team unity but Terry Taylor has charged ahead of him to enter the ring and is trying to bask in the spotlight all by himself.
Gordon Solie: Terry and Chris, you two seem to have all the potential in the world to be one of the greatest teams in history, yet we have seen some uneasiness in this team as of late, what is going on?
Chris Adams: Gordon, it’s not……
Terry Taylor: I’ll answer this. Terry Taylor is a star. Terry Taylor is the man responsible for bringing these gold belts home. Terry Taylor is the one that carries this team. Terry Taylor makes the pinfalls, Terry Taylor does it all.
Gordon Solie: A lot of “Terry Taylors” were said in those few sentences.
Chris Adams: Gordon, this is a great team that we have here and I expect us to hold the AWA Tag Titles for quite some time.
Terry Taylor: Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Chris Adams: Terry and I….
Terry Taylor: Terry Taylor is the AWA World Tag Team Champion. Terry Taylor is the new face of the AWA! Terry Taylor is the next mega star of the AWA!
Gordon Solie: Terry, speaking of the AWA World Tag Titles, we will have an announcement right now concerning the challengers for the titles next week at AWA Survivor Series. A mysterious and unknown individual said he was granted the right to field a team to challenge and Chris for the titles. Any team that he wants he can choose to have face you for the titles.
Gordon Solie: Wait, Jake Roberts?! Are you back? Are you the unknown individual who will be challenging for the AWA World Tag Team Championship?!
Ken Resnick: Here comes One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy to reunite with their long lost master in Jake Roberts. That sheep follower’s mask earlier tonight definitely was a sign that he would be returning soon, we just didn’t think we would see him as early as tonight! Looks like it’s going to be Gang and Bundy challenging for the titles after the reappearance of Jake Roberts.
Jake Roberts: You may all ask where I have been all the time. When you suffer such a crushing defeat as I did to Dusty Rhodes back at AWA Superdome Spectacular, you begin to reassess what went wrong. You dig deep into the subconscious of your mind and figure out what was the reasoning behind all this. I needed time away from the AWA to figure this all out. Just days ago, I had a revelation that I knew what all of it meant. That a demolition should occur, that everything needed to be undone and I figured out why, when, where and how it all went wrong!
Jake Roberts: IT WAS YOU TWO! Both of you were the weak link, you may look strong physically, but mentally you are two of the weakest individuals I have ever been crazy enough to be around. It was your fault that it all went wrong! For this ultimate sin, you shall now be considered demolished!
Ken Resnick: Two men in leather and metal masks have hit the ring and just as Jake Roberts said, they are absolutely demolishing One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy. I’d say the Snake Pit is officially dead and Jake Roberts has moved on to what looks to be an absolutely ferocious and downright scary team that he will now head!
Eddie Gilbert: I love it! I love it! Jake Roberts is finally getting rid of the dead weight on his team! These two guys are like a destruction crew, they are tearing apart Bundy and Gang with the steel ring steps and a steel chair! I love this, more please, more!
Jake Roberts: The end of Gang and Bundy has come, in their place stands two of the most destructive forces you will ever lay eyes on. I give you Smash, I give you Ax, and I give you Demolition! This will be my team that challenges for the AWA World Tag Team Championship at AWA Survivor Series.
Ken Resnick: There you go, Jake Roberts has announced that it will be Demolition challenging for the titles at AWA Survivor Series.
Eddie Gilbert: Definitely not the time for Adams and Taylor to be having team problems when they’ll be facing a team as ferocious as Demolition!
Ken Resnick: Moving along here on AWA All-Star Wrestling, tonight we will see the in ring debut of the Varsity Club as Dan “The Beast” Severn steps in the ring to take on Junkyard Dog.
Eddie Gilbert: The Dog has been somewhat wallowing here in the AWA as of late and his career doesn’t seem to be pointing in the right direction at this moment. He is definitely in need of a jolt to kick start his career up again and gets himself headed towards title shots.
Ken Resnick: Now as this match is ready to begin, who is that sitting in the entrance way?
Eddie Gilbert: ah Ken, I am glad you asked. That is one of the most smart and intelligent men in professional wrestling today. That is Ernie “The Genius” Ladd, a former wrestling champion as well as professional football player who has a knack for taking the beat up and broken and turning it into pure gold. Perhaps he’s out here to turn Junkyard Dog into his latest cause?
Ken Resnick: I don’t think the Junkyard Dog is in need of any help here as he starts off on the Olympic style wrestler in Severn by using some professional moves that Severn is probably not used to as he connects with a giant power slam to get this match started off on the right foot.
Eddie Gilbert: You’ll see, he’ll need Ladd.
Ken Resnick: Need Ladd? Not by the looks of it here. The Dog connects with one of his patented head butts to Severn which sends the mat game grappler sprawling to the mat holding his head in pain.
Eddie Gilbert: They need to check the Dog’s head, I think he’s got a steel plate implant in there or something!
Ken Resnick: This could mean trouble for the Dog, there’s no way he can go toe to toe with Severn when it comes to the Greco Roman grappling game. Severn will easily take the inferior Junkyard Dog straight down to the mat with those moves.
Ken Resnick: Dan Severn’s wrestling ability is now starting to come out as Junkyard Dog looks completely over matched now that he can’t use the head butt advantage against a guy that really knows what he is doing in a wrestling match. This Varsity Club could be a force to be reckoned with in the near future.
Ken Resnick: There’s Dan Severn clamping on the rear naked head clamp and Junkyard Dog is forced to give in to a submission attempt as the pain is just too much. The winner by submission in this one, Dan Severn.
Eddie Gilbert: Was there ever any doubt? Junkyard Dog is washed up and through, the only way his career will ever thrive again is to give full control to a genius like Ernie Ladd.
Ernie Ladd: You could have won that match Dog.
Junkyard Dog: What are you talking about?
Ernie Ladd: You blew it, you don’t know what you’re doing in there. Under my tutelage, you could become my protégé and I guarantee I could send you straight to a title belt.
Junkyard Dog: Forget about it, I am not signing on with an old washed up has been like you. Your football career failed and now you think you’re a wrestling genius? Forget about it!
Eddie Gilbert: Is the Junkyard Dog nuts?! He could be a champion under Ernie Ladd!
Ken Resnick: Here we go with our main event as it is a rather rare occurrence happening here tonight as the AWA World Heavyweight Championship is being defended right here on AWA All-Star Wrestling.
Eddie Gilbert: Here’s the man that is going to win the belt. The Beast from the East, Bam Bam Bigelow is walking out of here with the title tonight. Jim Cornette is going to do what he promised since the moment he stepped foot in the AWA, he’s going to be the manager of a world champion.
Ken Resnick: Bigelow was able to successfully lobby for this title match tonight after he defeated Barry Windham of the Four Horsemen a few weeks back in a tag team match. Tonight, he finds himself in the most important match of his life.
Ken Resnick: There is the champ himself, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair along with his manager and business advisor, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.
Eddie Gilbert: Hey, what’s Danny Davis doing checking there?! After what we saw at AWA Southwest Shootout when Nikita Koloff should have been the world champion….
Ken Resnick: You mean Lex Luger….
Eddie Gilbert: …I am surprised that the AWA would even assign Davis to this all important match.
Ken Resnick: Danny Davis holding up that 10 pounds of solid gold that represents the AWA World Champion.
Eddie Gilbert: Why even wrestle the match? Davis should just hand the title over to Bigelow right now and save everybody the trouble because you know that’s who it’s going home with.
Ken Resnick: The match is definitely starting out the way that Bam Bam Bigelow hoped that it would. He is using is striking and street fighting skills to lay a number on Ric Flair. Bigelow presents a bit of a styles clash to Flair so we’ll have to see how the champ handles it as this match progresses.
Eddie Gilbert: Bigelow is dominating the champion! This is great, I love it! What an atomic drop, Flair won’t be able to sit down right for a week!
Ken Resnick: I think that Flair may have underestimated Bigelow here a little bit and didn’t take this title match on TV too seriously when it came to training.
Eddie Gilbert: Ahhh…there’s the Ric Flair we all know and love. He’s fighting and scrapping to get ahold of anything he can get his hands on. He will resort to this tactic it seems when his back is against the wall and it’s either this or losing his title.
Ken Resnick: Looks like Bigelow has had enough of Flair’s antics already! He just scooped up Flair from his shoulders and slammed him to the mat. All of the air of the champion had to have been knocked out of him with that one.
Ken Resnick: Bigelow has Flair reeling and it looks like he is ready to pounce on gaining the championship….but what is this? Referee Danny Davis is getting in the way of Bam Bam Bigelow and will not let him in to attack Flair! How is this a break when Flair is begging for mercy?
Eddie Gilbert: And this is why Flair is the smartest man in the game! He took the mental lapse of Bigelow and capitalized to gain the momentum back in this match!
Ken Resnick: A “mental lapse”? That was Danny Davis getting in his way and now allowing him to attack Flair when he had the golden opportunity to!
Eddie Gilbert: Flair is fighting back here as he is a hard one to get the title off of.
Ken Resnick: Bigelow proved it’s not hard to get the body of Flair off of him as he just threw the champ and is now heading up to the top turnbuckle. Bigelow is one of the most agile big men in the history of professional wrestling and he may be soaring to the AWA World title here tonight!
Eddie Gilbert: You can’t fly very well if your taking off is no good, Bobby Heenan just held the foot of Bigelow and he is sent tumbling awkwardly off the top turnbuckle.
Ken Resnick: We have a malfunction at the junction! After the trip from Heenan, Bigelow was sent flying at a crazy angle and has smashed right into Danny Davis! The referee is now down and an already chaotic match has just been made all the crazier.
Eddie Gilbert: Bam Bam Bigelow is trying to get Danny Davis to come to his senses but that was quite the crushing blow that he took from a man that weighs probably over 400 pounds.
Ken Resnick: Does this mean trouble for the champion? Bam Bam looks ready for revenge here and Flair is begging for mercy? He will get none!
Eddie Gilbert: Why? Why should he get no mercy? He’s the champion for crying out loud!
Ken Resnick: There it is, the devastating maneuver known as “Greetings from Asbury Park”! This may finally be the night when Flair finally uses up his nine lives and loses the AWA belt!
Eddie Gilbert: Get up Ric! Get up Ric! Oh this is bad, really bad!
Ken Resnick: 1…2….3….4….5…6….7….he’s had Flair down for more than two sets of three counts! This should be over but Danny Davis is still out from the blow he received when Flair threw him in front of Bigelow jumping off the top rope!
Bobby Heenan: Get up Ric! Get up!
Eddie Gilbert: That’s what I said Bobby!!!
Ken Resnick: There’s no referee to count the fall!
Eddie Gilbert: Wait..what…who? What is he doing down here?!
Ken Resnick: Referee Earl Hebner has just come flying down to ringside! Count of one, count of two, count of three! Bam Bam Bigelow has done it, we have a new champion!
Eddie Gilbert: This cannot be happening! What an injustice!
Ken Resnick: Earl Hebner is raising the hand of Bam Bam Bigelow to signify that we have a brand new AWA World Champion!
Eddie Gilbert: Wait, not so fast, the original referee in this match, Danny Davis is on the outside and he is raising the hand of the true champion, Ric Flair!
Ken Resnick: AWA President Stanley Blackburn is in the ring now to try and get this all straightened up. Let’s see if we can get an official word.
Stanley Blackburn: After consulting with the referees, Bam Bam Bigelow struck the original referee with a dive off the top rope which merits a disqualification. Therefore, the winner and still champion by DQ is Ric Flair. However, I am sick of this getting by the skin of your teeth Flair. Therefore, next week at AWA Survivor Series, it will be a Triple Team Survivor Series match! The survivor of the match will be the AWA World Champion! It will be you and two members of the Four Horsemen of your choosing, against the Jim Cornette Experience and Dusty Rhodes, Lex Luger and Sting!
Ken Resnick: What a main event set for Survivor Series! In addition to that big match, Andy Kaufman’s crown is on the line in a ladder match, Roddy Piper and Honky Tonk Man look to settle their musical differences, Adams and Taylor defend the tag titles against Demolition and we’ll have a bonus match as well! For Eddie Gilbert, I am Ken Resnick, wishing you all a good night!
