Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to another exciting and jam packed edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling! We are here at the Center Stage Theater in the hot bed of pro wrestling which is Atlanta, Georgia. What a show we have for…..
Honky Tonk Man: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, enough of that talkin’ goin’ on outside the ring. The Honky Tonk Man is here and the Honky Tonk Man is here to play you all a tune here in the AWA. I come from a place down south that I can tell you is a thousand times better than this place you call a city but is actually a dump! I come from the music capital of the entire world, Nashville, Tennessee. I am a world renowned recording artist as well as a world renowned professional wrestler. When I sing the people listen and when I wrestle, the people get hurt! So tonight is my debut album…I mean debut match here in the AWA. Send down the first man so I can start my climb to the top of the charts tonight!
Gordon Solie: Well here comes Tito Santana from the back to answer the challenge of the Honky Tonk Man. Looks like this will be a officially sanctioned match as referee Danny Davis is right behind Tito to call this match.
Ken Resnick: Oh what is this? Even before Tito can even slide into the ring to get this match going, Honky Tonk Man attacks and starts putting the boots to Tito. I don’t think I like this guy’s cockiness or rule breaking tactics already.
Gordon Solie: Honky Tonk Man has Tito Santana locked in a sleeper hold as he is quickly trying to put Tito away here. Tito is gasping for air but seems to be slowly fading off.
Ken Resnick: Honky Tonk Man looks to be going for a spinning neck breaker of some sort, I am getting word on my monitor here that he calls this the “Shake, Rattle and Roll”. This could be curtains and there will be no encore for Tito tonight as they say in the Honky Tonk Man’s music business.
Gordon Solie: I didn’t know a spinning neck breaker could be so lethal! What a devastating move we just saw as Danny Davis is down for the count and the winner in his debut match here in the AWA is the Honky Tonk Man.
Ken Resnick: What is this? Andy Kaufman has made his way down to the ring….in a neck brace and wheel chair! Last week we saw Jerry Lawler piledrive Kaufman straight on his head after Superstar Billy Graham walked out on Kaufman. Now he shows up as if he has been seriously injured.
Andy Kaufman: Very impressive there Honky Tonk Man. You’ve got some talent and should come out to Hollywood with me sometime! Now I got a question for you, would you mind using that Shake, Rattle and Roll to possibly take out Jerry Lawler for me tonight in advance of this AWA US title match next week at AWA Southwest Shootout?
Jerry Lawler: Excuse me? There’s no getting out of this one next week Kaufman. You know that Studd hasn’t defended the title in his 30 day period and if he doesn’t next week at Southwest Shootout that he’ll be forfeiting the title! It’s either me or no title!
Ken Resnick: What a match that will be next week at AWA Southwest Shootout. We already have a few matches but will have a few more finalized by the end of the show tonight and will give you a full rundown of next week’s giant pay per view spectacular! We’ll be right back.
Kerry Von Erich: I am sick of this Kevin, aren’t you.
Kevin Von Erich: Yea…me too. Sick of these guys costing us matches, especially costing me that AWA World title victory. Flair shouldn’t be the champion right now, it should be me. It’s about time we do something to finish this
Kerry Von Erich: You know Kevin, I was thinking the same thing. I am willing to face them in their own match. Freebirds, we are challenging to your own match. Next week at AWA Southwest Shootout it all comes to an end. The Von Erichs are challenging you to a Badstreet Rules match! You know the rules, anything goes, all six men in the ring at the same time. We’ll finish this our way, just wait and see.
Ken Resnick: Back in the ring here for more action on AWA All-Star Wrestling and talk about seeing a volatile situation first hand, you’ve got it right here. The feud between Jimmy Garvin, Rick Rude and Eddie Gilbert will finally come to an end one of the men in this triangle tag team match at AWA Southwest Shootout will leave the AWA forever. No 30, 60 or 90 days this time, the ban will be permanent.
Gordon Solie: Tonight, we are getting a small preview of that match as the newest member of Hot Stuff International, Gino Hernandez takes on Rick Rude’s partner, Iceman King Parsons. The two lock up in the center of the ring to get this hotly contested matchup under way.
Ken Resnick:The power advantage of the Gino Hernandez becomes very much apparent there as out of the lock up he uses his pure strength to shove the Iceman right down to the canvas.
Gordon Solie: Remember it was originally Andy Kaufman letting Eddie Gilbert buyout the contract of Gino Hernandez which led to the strife within the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars that led to Superstar Billy Graham leaving the group.
Gordon Solie: The Iceman is oh so agile as he just popped right up to his feet, grabs the head of Gino and just starts smashing his head into the turnbuckles.
Ken Resnick: Parsons connects with a back body drop here on Gino. If this hotly contested match between these two is any indication of what we are in store for AWA Southwest Shootout, then we could be in for a real slugfest.
Gordon Solie: Ah c’mon now, just as our broadcast colleague, Gorilla Monsoon says, there are no timeouts in the world of professional wrestling. Eddie Gilbert is up on the apron attending to Gino Hernandez much like a trainer would with a boxer in between rounds of a fight.
Gordon Solie: Gino Hernandez getting himself back on track in this match as he connects with a side Russian leg sweep on the Iceman that sends him spiraling down to the mat.
Ken Resnick: Gino Hernandez posing as only a member of Hot Stuff International would. He hasn’t been under the Eddie Gilbert umbrella for very long and he’s already posing and strutting much like Gilbert.
Gordon Solie: Posting and strutting can only get you so far before….something like that happens! Iceman Parsons with a quick roll up, but he only gets a close two call by referee Earl Hebner. Such a close call in this match.
Ken Resnick: You mess around for a split second like that in this triangle tag team match coming up at AWA Southwest Shootout and it will cost you more than just the match, it will cost you your AWA career.
Gordon Solie: Iceman Parsons has Gino backed into the corner between a rock and a hard place. Gino is begging for mercy but I doubt he’ll get any at all.
Ken Resnick: He better pay attention here though, looks like Eddie Gilbert is summoning the troops on the outside.
Ken Resnick: Well that will be an immediate disqualification called by Earl Hebner as the Long Riders have blatantly entered the ring and attacked King Parsons from behind and possibly preventing him from scoring the fall. King Parsons will win this match on a count of a DQ but this is far from over as Hot Stuff International is really working over him.
Gordon Solie: The battle is ensuing here as it is a three on one job going on King Parsons. Meanwhile, it looks like it’s actually Rick Rude getting the best of Eddie Gilbert!
Ken Resnick: But look in the center of the ring, what a stare down! Lady Maxine and Missy Hyatt are ready to rumble!!!
Ken Resnick: A cat fight has broken out between Missy and Maxine!!! I can’t believe my eyes!
Gordon Solie: Calm yourself down now there Ken. Rick Rude has fought off Gilbert and Long Riders but the damage may have already been done with Parsons.
Ken Resnick: Missy Hyatt has retreated to the outside and into the safety of the arms of Eddie Gilbert.
Gordon Solie: What a match, or should I say a plain old fight, we are going to see next week at AWA Southwest Shootout. A triangle tag team match as it will be Eddie Gilbert and Gino Hernandez vs. Iceman King Parsons and Rick Rude vs. Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin. But most of all, the loser of the fall will be banished from the AWA for the rest of his wrestling career! We’ll be back after these messages!
Ken Resnick: We saw these guys speak last week, so let’s go via satellite to Columbus, Ohio and Ohio State University as we speak to the Varsity Club.
Steve Williams: When you are already the finest and most skilled wrestlers in the world, you ask why would you want to work out anymore? Because there’s always somebody bigger, badder and stronger just around the corner. We work out on a constant basis day after day. We are constantly scouting for new talent to join the Varsity Club and we must train to topple all the competition. This battle going on between Mark Coleman and Don Frye is probably one of the most hotly contested matches you will ever see. When you take two of the top wrestlers in the world today and pit them against each other it’s only a positive. The best facing the best. So when we finally come and crash the party in the AWA, you will finally see we are the best and all the rest…they’re nothing!
Gordon Solie: Looks like the Varsity Club may be a pretty imposing force to deal with here in the coming weeks with that group of guys banding together. Moving along here on AWA All-Star Wrestling, we have Andy Kaufman and the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars heading to the ring as Curt Hennig will be clashing with Bearcat Wright tonight.
Andy Kaufman: Am I seeing what I think I am seeing? Andy Kaufman after being dumped on his head by a Jerry Lawler piledriver last week is now in a wheelchair with a neck brace. From the reports that I received, he only had a slight neck sprain and never even went to a hospital.
Gordon Solie: I find it rather strange that Superstar Billy Graham is not at ringside. He has been by Andy’s side since the very beginning but after Gino Hernandez was sold to Hot Stuff International, he seems to be in disagreement with the direction that the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars is going in and this led to him walking out and Kaufman suffering the Lawler piledriver.
Gordon Solie: Bearcat and the so called Mr. Perfect are set to tangle horns here as Danny Davis is about to ring the bell….
Jerry Lawler: Hold on, hold on, hold on…
Ken Resnick: Jerry Lawler is making his way to the ring right now and is whispering into the ear of Bearcat Wright. What is this all about?
Gordon Solie: Bearcat Wright is now walking to the locker room area with Jerry Lawler. I do not believe that Danny Davis had rung the bell yet to officially start this match so Bearcat Wright is not being counted out.
Ken Resnick: Bearcat Wright has disappeared but in his place is Superstar Billy Graham and he’s in his wrestling gear!
Billy Graham: Curt and John, you two are really great guys. I have nothing but the greatest of respect for you. But unfortunately you’ve aligned yourself with that little weasel over there Andy Kaufman and I have had enough of it! The mockery he has made of the titles, the joke he’s trying to make out of pro wrestling and finally the selling of the contract of Gino Hernandez where the money was more important than the man, I have had enough! I am now here to right all the wrongs that I have done for Andy Kaufman. Curt, you’re standing in the way of that, so right now, it’s you and me!
Billy Graham: I am sick of protecting you and I am sick of your crap! I am fed up with it all and it’s about time I took a stand!
Gordon Solie: Curt Hennig has heard enough of Billy Graham tearing into Andy Kaufman as he attacks from behind and this match is now officially under way as I just heard the bell sound.
Ken Resnick: It looks like Graham has drawn the ire of Curt Hennig as Curt looks to be taking the take no prisoners approach. He has latched onto the arm of Graham and wants to tear it from the limb as he applies on a very painful looking arm bar.
Gordon Solie: We sure that Hennig hasn’t been working out with those Varsity Club guys? It looks like a move they would use.
Ken Resnick: Why Billy Graham didn’t break out on his own like this earlier, I’ll never know. With strength and power like this, Graham could be a major force to contend with here in the AWA, especially with moves likes this punishing back breaker.
Gordon Solie: Perhaps it was Kaufman putting stars in Graham’s eyes with money and fame that kept him coming back for more amongst the Hollywood elitists.
Gordon Solie: Billy Graham is really softening up the back here as it looks like he is preparing Curt Hennig for his unforgiving Full Nelson hold!
Ken Resnick: Graham has the Full Nelson applied, but what is this? John Studd has leaped up on the ring apron….but Jerry Lawler is right there to back Graham up and slugs Studd right in the face!
Gordon Solie: Remember, Lawler and Studd will meet one on one next week at AWA Southwest Shootout for the AWA United States championship as we get a preview of that match right here this week on AWA All-Star Wrestling!
Ken Resnick: I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew he wasn’t injured when he never even visited a hospital! Andy Kaufman is looking to hit Billy Graham with a chair and put an end to this ended friendship of theirs once and for all!
Gordon Solie: Not so fast says Graham! He just pushed Hennig right into the path of Kaufman’s chair and listen to the sound as Hennig’s head clunks off the steel chair! He’s got to be totally out of it!
Ken Resnick: Referee Danny Davis is down for the three count as Lawler stands guard and we have a winner of the match in Superstar Billy Graham!
Gordon Solie: I’ve got to say I put my money on Jerry Lawler going into AWA Southwest Shootout especially now that it looks like he’s got some back up in Billy Graham! They’ll still be at a slight numbers disadvantage but the presence of Graham will definitely help out!
Ken Resnick: Jerry Lawler has grabbed the AWA US belt and is showing it proudly to the crowd here in Atlanta as he hopes this will be the same scene next week in San Antonio. Andy Kaufman and his Cabaret of Hollywood Stars are lying in shambles on the outside of the ring and by the looks have lost all momentum that they had going into this US title match at Southwest Shootout. What a match it will be next week, but for now let’s go to some messages from our commercial sponsors.
Gordon Solie: Back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and I am not sure what is going on in the ring right now as Chris Adams and Terry Taylor are talking with AWA President Stanley Blackburn.
Ken Resnick: We saw both of these men debut last week on AWA All-Star Wrestling and were impressive in the time they went toe to toe in the ring. After the match the two decided to form a partnership.
Ken Resnick: I have now been passed a note here by AWA President Stanley Blackburn that says that due to a missed flight by Buddy Rose and Doug Somers after a long night of partying in Winnipeg with Larry Nelson, Rose and Somers have forfeited their spot in this match for the #1 contenders spot at the AWA World Tag Team titles at AWA Southwest Shootout. Chris Adams and Terry Taylor will now take on One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy for the title opportunity.
Gordon Solie: I’ll tell you that Bundy and Gang have not been their normal selves in the ring as of late after the defeat and disappearance of Jake Roberts after AWA Superdome Spectacular at the hands of Jake Roberts. We’ll see if they can bounce back in this match.
Ken Resnick: Gordon, looks like that bout of sluggishness on the part of Bundy and the Gang was only temporary as they are starting out this match being their usual big and bad selves. I am not sure that Adams and Taylor know what they got into here. They are being absolutely pummeled and pillaged here by these two behemoths. They are back to being monsters that could easily run the table here in the AWA.
Gordon Solie: Looks like the One Man Gang is going to make short work of this new tag team duo as he comes flying off the top rope with his 747 Splash. That’s got to be all she wrote and they’ll be moving onto Southwest Shootout.
Ken Resnick: What the? Did the arena forget to pay its electric bill this month? All of the lights have gone out in the arena.
Gordon Solie: Ken, I can still hear you through my microphone so I don’t think we have lost power, this has got to be the doing of some individual or individuals.
Ken Resnick: The power is back on and…is that what I think it is?!
Gordon Solie: It is just that Ken! The sheep follower mask of the Snake Pit has appeared in the ring. Is this a sign that Jake is not gone and is only coming up with a more sinister plan before he returns? Bundy and Gang seem to be an absolute awe that they have received a sign from Jake of his possible return. They have been absolutely lost without him.
Ken Resnick: King Kong Bundy has placed the mask on his face and has almost fallen into that zombie like trance that we saw him in when he faced Bruiser Brody here on AWA All-Star Wrestling a few weeks ago. They had this match in hand, but the appearance of the sheep mask has changed all that.
Ken Resnick: Where are they going? This match isn’t over yet!
Gordon Solie: Earl Hebner is starting the count on Bundy and Gang and he has reached a ten count. The winners of this match via count out will be Chris Adams and Terry Taylor. Bundy and Gang after seeing that sheep mask appear in the ring seem to believe that Jake Roberts may be in the locker room area and went to find him and got themselves counted out.
Gordon Solie: Earl Hebner now raising Adams and Taylor’s hands in victory as it appeared in the early going that these guys did not stand a chance. None the less, Chris Adams and Terry Taylor will move onto AWA Southwest Shootout next week to challenge the New Zealand Sheepherders for the AWA World Tag Team titles. We’ll be right back after these me……
Gordon Solie: Hey now! The Sheepherders have attacked from behind when they knew that Adams and Taylor were at their most vulnerable. It looks like they are trying to get a leg up on their competition heading into next week’s title match!
Ken Resnick: After a grueling match with Bundy and Gang, the Sheepherders don’t think that Adams and Taylor have seen enough as they work over them with steel chairs.
Gordon Solie: Don’t look now, but we saw this man make his impact back at AWA Superdome Spectacular, the Great Kokina has entered the ring and he may be looking for one of his giant corner Banzai Splashes again!
Ken Resnick: As if just one victim wasn’t enough, the Sheepherders have dragged both Taylor and Adams over to the corner and directly into the path of the Great Kokina’s Banzai Splash!
Gordon Solie: Oh the impact! Great Kokina comes down on both Chris Adams and Terry Taylor as Butch Miller and Luke Williams are proud of themselves and are laughing at the destruction they have caused. We knew this all along though, these New Zealand Sheepherders have no remorse and no regret for anything they do. They are just two rowdy and violent individuals. Well, let’s hope that Adams and Taylor will be in fighting shape for their match next week live on pay per view when they can get revenge on these guys. Now, let us go to those commercial messages that were interrupted the first time.
Gordon Solie: We move onto main event time here on AWA All-Star Wrestling as we have a very pivotal match which will set the course of the main event next week at AWA Southwest Shootout.
Ken Resnick: Yes, it will be Lex Luger taking on Nikita Koloff tonight with the winner to face Ric Flair next week for the AWA World Heavyweight title.
Gordon Solie: Nikita thought he already had a AWA World title shot before Ric Flair renounced the deal he had made with Cornette and Koloff. This sets up a match where two men are looking for that shot at Flair, one with revenge for what is owed to him on his mind, the other of the student finally wanting to show the teacher what he learned. But in the end, both men want the ultimate prize, the world title.
Ken Resnick: Lex Luger is wasting no time in showing Nikita Koloff that he means business! He is clubbing away at Koloff and has the big Russian stunned.
Gordon Solie: Reports out of the Soviet Union say that in his time over there that he amassed an undefeated record with hundreds to possibly thousands of bouts. He brings that streak to the AWA where the competition is stronger and that streak may finally come to an end.
Gordon Solie: Not something we’d usually see out of the usually straight laced Lex Luger. He has taken Nikita’s Russian issued sports sweatshirt and has wrapped it around his neck in order to try and choke the big Russian out. He’ll go to any means to get through Nikita and get to his old mentor Flair.
Jim Cornette: C’mon ref, he’s cheatin’!
Ken Resnick: Lex whips Nikita into the ropes and delivers a giant clothesline, very much similar to the move that Nikita uses to put opponents away, the Russian Sickle.
Gordon Solie: You can’t quite count out the Russian quite yet. He has backed Lex Luger into the corner and delivers three hard shoulder blocks right into the stomach of the Total Package. That will sure knock the wind out of you in a hurry.
Ken Resnick: Lex Luger better be careful here as he is falling into the trap that is Nikita’s game plan. He has slowed this match down to his pace as he locks in a head lock on Luger as he tries to fight off the anguishing pain and get himself back to his feet and back in this match.
Gordon Solie: No wonder this Russian Nightmare is undefeated. The sheer brutality he inflicts on opponents is hard to watch. He is just stomping all over the head of Lex Luger here and he shows absolutely no mercy.
Ken Resnick: Nikita has Lex lined up for the Russian Sickle and…oh what a tumble to the outside! Lex ducked the Russian Sickle attempt and they both went free falling over the top rope and over onto the hard cement floor of the Center Stage Theater here in Atlanta. This match may very well be decided by the man who can get up to his feet first.
Gordon Solie: Referee Danny Davis is up to a 7 count now. I don’t see any movement from either Luger or Koloff. They both appear to have taken a nasty bump on the head on the way down by the side of the ring and may both be knocked out.
Ken Resnick: Danny Davis has reached a 10 count and has called for the bell. It looks like we have a double count out. Now what?!
Gordon Solie: Ken, I think we may be getting a decision quickly here as I see AWA President Stanley Blackburn making his way through the curtain and is heading towards the ring.
Stanley Blackburn: So after consideration at the result of this bout, I have come to the following decision. I know both men have issues with Ric Flair and would equally like to have the match with Flair so that they can settle their differences. Therefore, I have decided that both Nikita Koloff AND Lex Luger will both challenge Ric Flair in a three way triangle match with the winner of the fall being the AWA World Champion!
Jim Cornette: Blackburn, you know that’s not right! You know Nikita dominated that match and should be the sole man to face Flair! If you won’t do something about this, then I will!
Gordon Solie: What is this? Jim Cornette has just attacked Dusty Rhodes by slamming that loaded tennis racket right over the back of the head of Dusty!
Ken Resnick: That should get him a fine from the AWA offices as he just did that right in front of AWA President Stanley Blackburn in what was definitely a unprovoked attack!
Ken Resnick: Oh no, I feared that this would happen! A three on one situation and Dusty has now help as Lex Luger is still trying to get his wits about him on the outside!
Gordon Solie: Nikita Koloff and Buzz Sawyer are holding the legs down of Dusty Rhodes as the 400+ pound behemoth of Bam Bam Bigelow has gone flying through the air and comes crashing down on the ribs of Dusty Rhodes! This is a mugging inside the ring right now and Dusty has no one to help him!
Gordon Solie: We need to get somebody down here right away. This situation is starting to get very much out of hand. Buzz Sawyer is driving the Mongolian Spike deep into the forehead of Dusty Rhodes!
Ken Resnick: Meanwhile, I think Nikita Koloff wants to show the world that he was the true winner of the match as he just delivered a devastating Russian Sickle on Lex Luger. The Jim Cornette Experience is trying to make it just one on one between Koloff and Flair next week at AWA Southwest Shootout.
Gordon Solie: Wait just a minute, the Four Horsemen have arrived on the scene to make the save for Dusty and Lex!
Ken Resnick: Of all people, I didn’t expect the Horsemen to come out and help them out. Perhaps this is a debt of gratitude after Dusty and Lex saved them from the punishment of the Jim Cornette Experience last week on AWA All-Star Wrestling.
Gordon Solie: Perhaps a uneasy alliance has formed here as notice that they are only checking over the wellbeing of Dusty Rhodes and not that of Lex Luger. Luger and Flair still have old wounds that have been reopened and Lex will now challenge for Flair’s title next week.
Ken Resnick: That is all the time we have this week on AWA All-Star Wrestling this week but here’s Gordon to give you a quick rundown of the matches for next week’s AWA Southwest Shootout PPV!
Gordon Solie: We will have a Triple Jeopardy triangle match as Jimmy and Ronnie Garvin face off against Rick Rude and Iceman Parsons as well as Eddie Gilbert and Gino Hernandez. The man that has the losing fall in that match will be permanantly banned from the AWA forever. The Fabulous Freebirds and Von Erichs battle it out in the end of the road match as the Von Erichs have challenged them to a Badstreet Rules match. Jerry Lawler tries to gain more revenge on Andy Kaufman and his Cabaret of Hollywood Stars when he takes on John Studd for the AWA United States Championship. The newcomers of Chris Adams and Terry Taylor take on the AWA World Tag Team champions, the New Zealand Sheepherders with the titles on the line. The main event, after the outcome of tonight, is now Ric Flair defending the AWA World Heavyweight Championship against the man with a grudge, Nikita Koloff and the former protégé, Lex Luger. All this and much more next week live on pay per view! That’s it for us here at AWA All-Star Wrestling for tonight!
