Jim Ross: Welcome everyone to AWA All-Star Wrestling as we are here live at Reunion Arena here in amazing Dallas, Texas. I am joined here tonight by my broadcast colleague, Ken Resnick, as we have an action packed lineup set for you tonight as we are just coming off the heels of the AWA Superdome Spectacular last week.
Ken Resnick: What an amazing show that was Jim. We saw Dusty finally vanquish Jake Roberts in the Last Battle of New Orleans cage match, Fritz Von Erich blinded by the Freebird Hair Cream, Andre had his hair cut, we have new tag team champions, but most of all we saw this man finally let the world know what Ric Flair owed him and that’s a shot at the AWA World Heavyweight title.
Jim Ross: Jim Cornette making his way down to the ring as he is accompanied by Nikita Koloff. Jim Cornette has promised us a big surprise here tonight which he says will guarantee that Nikita Koloff becomes the new AWA champ.
Jim Cornette: Back at AWA When Worlds Collide me client Nikita Koloff was promised two things when he collected Flair’s bounty on Harley Race, the $10,000 and a shot at the AWA title. We got the $10,000 check, that part was all fine and dandy. It’s Flair who’s not holding up the second part of this deal for the world title shot. We had to take matters into our own hands last week to collect on that by taking the AWA title belt. Unfortunately, AWA President Stanley Blackburn informed us that there is a $500 per day fine for each day that the AWA belt is not with the rightful holder if the belt has been taken. Mama didn’t raise no fool. I wasn’t going to be putting $500 a day into the piggy bank of Stanley Blackburn. So I gave the belt back, but in turn, Flair learned a valuable lesson. So I promised you all surprise tonight. I got to watching that AWA World title match last week and saw how neutralized the Horsemen were when there was the man the caliber of Lou Thesz watching Bruno’s back last week. Heck, if it wasn’t for us, Bruno would probably have the belt right now. But anyways, I decided to rip a page out of Bruno’s playbook and have decided to start my own group of back up to ensure that Nikita Koloff wins the AWA title that is so rightfully his.
Jim Cornette: Let me introduce to you, the two newest members of what I am now calling collectively, “The Jim Cornette Experience”. I scoured the world for two of the biggest, baddest and meanest men I could fine to watch Nikita’s back. Let me introduce to you Bam Bam Bigelow and “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer! Welcome to the Experience guys!
Jim Cornette: With these three as a collective unit, Flair doesn’t stand a chance. Flair, you know it’s only a matter of time before the title is gone and is draped over the shoulder of Nikita. When I first came to the AWA, I made a promise that I would control all of the titles. Well it starts with you Flair.
Ken Resnick: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and we move from one loud mouth to another loud mouth. Andy Kaufman and his Cabaret of Hollywood Stars look pretty proud of themselves after John Studd “body slammed” Andre the Giant last week, but he wouldn’t have done it without an assist from Kaufman who got the momentum going to slam the Giant when he pushed Andre’s feet from the apron.
Andy Kaufman: I am the ultimate gambler and the ultimate risk taker. I bet on black at the Vegas roulette table and it always hits for me. I always bet big at the craps table and it always hits snake eyes for this Hollywood star. So last week I gambled $15,000 of my money against the hair of Andre the Giant and of course hit big.
Ken Resnick: Actually, that suitcase that supposedly contained the $15,000 was accidentally knocked open when he hit Andre with it after the match and to the surprise of no one, there was no money in the suitcase.
Andy Kaufman: I am the king of wrestling, I have the AWA US champ and two of the most beautiful individuals walking the streets of Rodeo Drive these days. What else can I ask for?
Jerry Lawler: What else can you ask for Andy? How about a level playing ground? Andre got screwed. I got screwed. Andy, I was just looking at the bylaws of the AWA US championship and saw that it must be defended at least once every 30 days or it is forfeited. It looks like time is about up to John Studd coming up at AWA Southwest Shootout. I have petitioned the AWA Championship Committee to give me that title shot.
Andy Kaufman: You know Jerry, sorry can’t call you King anymore! I hate all that legal red tape just as much as the next guy. I know that the clock is ticking for John to make a defense so I’ll tell you what. If you can get by Curt Hennig tonight, right now, I’ll let you have the title shot.
Jerry Lawler: I respect that, nothing is ever given, it’s always earned, it’s on right now!
Jim Ross: Here we go with our first match of the evening as Jerry Lawler takes on Curt Hennig. If Lawler wins the match then he gets a shot at the AWA United States title against John Studd at AWA Southwest Shootout, our next pay per view extravaganza.
Ken Resnick: Remember it was Curt Hennig that made Lawler lose the crown when he joined the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars after turning his back on longtime friend and tag team partner, Greg Gagne. Jerry Lawler definitely couldn’t have forgotten about this and has got to be out looking for an extra level of revenge.
Jim Ross: A front face lock here by Curt Hennig has Lawler in some discomfort. Don’t sleep on the technical skills of Curt Hennig. It’s not just for show that he calls himself Mr. Perfect. He is one of the best wrestlers to come along the past few years and has the skills to back up his name.
Ken Resnick: An unorthodox move here from Hennig as he slingshots Lawler across the ring and sends Lawler slamming hard into the turnbuckles in the corner.
Ken Resnick: You know, I used to think very highly of Hennig and his wrestling accomplishments. A former AWA World Tag Team Champion and here he is joining up with Andy Kaufman as he gets the adoration of Andy Kaufman here after that catapult on Jerry Lawler.
Jim Ross: Can’t turn your back on the King for once moment.
Ken Resnick: Thank you for calling him Gordon. He was cheated out of his crown by Kaufman and should still be carrying that moniker around with him.
Jim Ross: I’m glad I could oblige you Ken. In the meantime, Lawler connects with a sidewalk slam on Hennig as he looks to set a date with John Studd for the AWA United States title in a few short weeks’ time at our next pay per view, Southwest Shootout.
Ken Resnick: Hennig is about to get crowned here as Andy Kaufman looks concerned for his cohort.
Jim Ross: Lawler has Curt up for his famous piledriver and connects with a crushing blow right in the center of the ring, that’s going to be it for Curt Hennig in this one!
Jim Ross: Referee Jerry Calhoun is down and makes the easy three count for Jerry Lawler as he puts away Curt Hennig and is now the #1 contender for John Studd’s AWA United States championship.
Ken Resnick: Look at the intense stare down that Lawler is having with Kaufman after the three count has been made. You know his ultimate goal is to get his hands on Andy Kaufman and finish him off once and for all.
Ken Resnick: Back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling, our cameras caught up with Kerry and Kevin Von Erich in the locker room as we hopefully get an update on the medical condition of their father, Fritz Von Erich, after he was blinded by the Freebird Hair Cream last week at Superdome Spectacular.
Kevin Von Erich: I just got back from the eye doctor with dad Kerry. They say that in the short term that he will be temporarily blinded but they say after a few weeks his eye sight should come back and he should fully recover.
Kerry Von Erich: Phew, what a relief. I was really scared he’s never seeing again. Speaking of seeing, who turned the lights out in the locker room, I can’t see.
Michael Hayes: Can’t see like your old daddy!
Jim Ross: Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts have struck with the lights turned off in the locker room! As if putting Fritz in a hospital bed for the night wasn’t enough, here comes the Fabulous Freebirds looking for more punishment on the Von Erichs!
Ken Resnick: What is this, don’t tell me they are going to….
Michael Hayes: Hold him down Buddy, I’m going to blind another Von Erich with the Freebird Hair Cream!
Jim Ross: They’re going to blind Kevin Von Erich here! They need some help!
Ken Resnick: The lights have just been flicked back on and luckily for the sake of Kevin Von Erich, his brother David was in earshot of this assault and has saved the day with a fire extinguisher to chase Hayes and Roberts away. The situation from these two sides is far from over after the blinding of Fritz.
Jim Ross: Let’s go over to our broadcast colleague Gordon Solie as he is in the interview area with Rick Rude, King Parsons and Lady Maxine.
Gordon Solie: Mr. Rude, I would like to welcome you back to the AWA. After you and Gilbert BOTH lost a loser leaves town for 30 days match thanks to Jimmy Garvin, I thought we’d never see you ever again.
Rick Rude: Gordon, I had to go back and reevaluate my priorities for a few weeks after all that went down. Precious played both Eddie and myself like a fiddle. I had the AWA World Tag titles, lost those. I had it all. I blew it all. Do I blame it on Eddie Gilbert? YES! Do I blame it on Jimmy Garvin? YES! Both of these guys are going to pay. I am working on it right now, but next week myself, Lady Maxine and the Iceman King Parsons are going to have a major announcement. I am asking for a meeting in the ring between the three of us, myself, Gilbert and Garvin. I am going to end this once and for all. Make sure you got a partner you can trust by your side, you’re going to need one.
Jim Ross: Moving along here on AWA All-Star Wrestling we have a clash of the titans here as Bruiser Brody meets King Kong Bundy.
Ken Resnick: The direction of the Snake Pit is very much in limbo right now. After Dusty Rhodes defeated Jake Roberts back at AWA Superdome Spectacular, Jake has now vanished into thin air many have said. He has left both Bundy and the One Man Gang lost without a way and very much emotional distraught.
Jim Ross: I don’t think I have ever seen a man move King Kong Bundy that easily to start off a match. He seemed to put up little to no resistance. He is letting Brody push him around the ring.
Ken Resnick: You know Brody along with Dick Murdoch have got to be jumping for joy to finally have their good friend Dusty Rhodes back to normal.
Ken Resnick: A partially illegal hold here as Brody looks to have the forearm in the throat which would be a choke. Referee Earl Hebner is doing a great job and is right in there to admonish Brody for the infraction of the rules.
Jim Ross: An elbow from Brody and Bundy just falls flat to the mat. I have never seen him put up so less of a fight than this. He must be so distraught over the loss of Jake Roberts, more than what was originally led on.
Ken Resnick: So much for a King Kong Bundy comeback in this one. Bruiser Brody connects with the big Running Knee Drop and that should be it for the Human Avalanche.
Jim Ross: Earl Hebner is down and we have a three count as Bruiser Brody defeats King Kong Bundy. I can’t believe that Bundy got absolutely zero offense in in that match. I don’t think I have ever seen that happen in a Bundy match.
Ken Resnick: Never the less Jim, Earl Hebner raises Bruiser Brody’s hand in victory. This is a situation that we will have to keep a close eye on as Bundy and perhaps One Man Gang have fallen into a very depressive state after the loss of their leader, Jake Roberts. We’ll be right back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling.
Jim Ross: On our last edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling, we saw the shocking return of Eddie Gilbert into the fold. Gilbert had been banished from the AWA many months ago after a double loss with Rick Rude sent them both packing in a loser leaves town match. Now he’s back and wants to attack the man that destroyed his livelihood and put him in hot water with the investors of Hot Stuff International, Jimmy Garvin.
Eddie Gilbert: This time isn’t to talk about Jimmy Garvin this time, this portion is set aside to talk about Rick Rude. The man from the very beginning that I let him into Hot Stuff International didn’t know his place. He had to be the center of attention, he had to take Precious and we know things like that aren’t going to fly with me. So after months and months of trying to get rid of Rude, Garvin interferes, messes up my plan, the rest is history. So it’s time for them both to pay and for me to make up my monetary losses to pay back to the investors, these guys aren’t what you’d called the savory characters. So I can see that sides are being formed, Jimmy has his cousin Ronnie, Rude has the Iceman. But do you think I’m going to go into battle with one of the Long Riders? Well first off, I am not paying them anymore than they are worth, which is bodyguards, so I have made a cash deal to purchase a wrestler’s contract.
Ken Resnick: Here comes Andy Kaufman down to the ring. Is he going to let Gilbert take one of his members of the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars?
Eddie Gilbert: Mr. Kaufman, are we set on the agreed upon deal? Inside of this briefcase you will find $50,000 in cash. Go ahead, count it, it’s all there.
Andy Kaufman: Mr. Gilbert, we have a deal, for the sum of $50,000 the contract of Gino Hernandez has now transferred from the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars to Hot Stuff International.
Jim Ross: Looks like Gilbert has the tag team partner he needs to combat the Rude tandem as well as the Garvins as he has bought Gino Hernandez from Andy Kaufman.
Jim Ross: Gino actually looks pleased with the deal as he is getting himself acquainted with Eddie Gilbert.
Ken Resnick: On the other side of the ring, it looks like this deal may not be going over so well with the other members of the Cabaret of Hollywood Stars.
Billy Graham: What are you doing Andy, we need him! I can’t believe you just got rid of one of our best members for a little bit of money!
Andy Kaufman: Billy, Billy, calm down, I know what I’m doing, we’ll be fiiiinnnneeee.
Ken Resnick: Seems like we may have a bit of dissension amongst the ranks of Kaufman’s crew. We will be right back after these messages.
Jim Ross: Main event time here on AWA All-Star Wrestling as we have the new allegiance of Rhodes and Luger teaming up to take on a yet to be announced Four Horsemen duo.
Ken Resnick: For weeks we saw the mysterious Lord Humongous stalk Ric Flair as a demon from his past. At AWA Superdome Spectacular, Lord Humongous was revealed to be Lex Luger, a former student and protégé of Ric Flair. Now Luger has teamed up with Dusty Rhodes and with Dusty’s renewed focus after defeating Jake Roberts in the cage, they have vowed to take the title off of Flair once and for all.
Jim Ross: Being led down to the ring by Bobby Heenan, the Horsemen have elected to go with the team of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard for tis match to take on the tandem of Luger and Rhodes. Perhaps the most technically sound duo the Horsemen could put out there, this could make for a very interesting match.
Ken Resnick: Luger and Rhodes are wasting no time getting this match under way as I don’t think Earl Hebner has even had a chance to ring the bell! Dusty is dropping the big elbow on Tully before he can even get his robe off and Luger is throwing Anderson back to the floor where he just came from!
Jim Ross: The power that Lex Luger possesses is just unbelievable. The power in those arms and in his legs to stretch Arn Anderson out like this is amazing. We call Arn Anderson a manipulator in that he can take a specific part of the body and really work it over, well here it looks as though Lex Luger is ripping a page from the Horsemen instruction book and doing the same to Arn.
Ken Resnick: Lex Luger continuing to work over the back of Arn Anderson here as I don’t think I have ever seen a man put on the bear hug quite like this. The power of this move is just crushing the bones in the spine of Arn Anderson as he screams in pain.
Jim Ross: A tag into the dream and they’ve got Arn in a less than enviable position here as they double team within the rules of the five count and the Dream connects with a big clothesline.
Ken Resnick: Although this is only the first match for these two, it would look to the average eye that these two have been teaming together for years as they are working like a well-oiled machine together.
Jim Ross: Looks like the American Dream wants to inflict as much punishment as he can on as many members of the Four Horsemen that he can get his hands on. He is literally taunting Arn Anderson to make the tag out to Tully Blanchard just so he can get his hands on Tully Blanchard.
Ken Resnick: Dusty knows that if he can chip away at the outer crust, he’ll be able to get to the middle and that’s Ric Flair and the AWA World title.
Jim Ross: Welcome to this match, Tully Blanchard!
Ken Resnick: A not so welcoming and heart felt introduction into this match as Dusty just drives that pointed cowboy boot right into the chest of Tully Blanchard.
Jim Ross: Tully may have the imprint from the design on Dusty’s cowboy boots after that massive blow!
Ken Resnick: Typical Four Horsemen fashion here as Bobby Heenan is now getting himself involved in this match as he distracts Earl Hebner while Tully Blanchard hits with a totally illegal and very much blatant low blow. Unbelievable, leave it to the Horsemen.
Jim Ross: Maybe the Four Horsemen have a new strategy for attacking Dusty Rhodes? They know that one of his bread and butter blows is that Bionic Elbow. Tully Blanchard has used the advantage he gained from the low blow to use this as an opportunity to stomp on the elbow of Dusty Rhodes. Every time he comes down with that Bionic Elbow, Tully is going to make sure he pays for it and feels it.
Ken Resnick: Never count out these Four Horsemen, Tully and Arn continue the onslaught on the arm as they use the tag out to double team the arm and continue to weaken it.
Jim Ross: A submission attempt here as this is quite like an amateur wrestling hold. Arn Anderson is wrenching back on that arm as Dusty screams in pain. Earl Hebner is right there asking Dusty if he wants to give it up.
Earl Hebner: What do you say Dusty? What do you say?
Dusty Rhodes: No….no….NOOO!!!
Ken Resnick: Dusty is able to shift his weight to one side and is able to get Arn Anderson off of him. Both men are very exhausted after many minutes of high intensity action and now are both looking for a tag out to their partner for the fresh man.
Jim Ross: Lex Luger is in first as he is quickly followed by Tully Blanchard and Lex already has Tully reeling as he has him up in a simple backbreaker over his shoulder.
Ken Resnick: The power of Lex Luger may be unmatched by any man here in the AWA. He’s tossing Tully Blanchard around like a rag doll.
Jim Ross: He’s got it! He’s got it locked in!
Ken Resnick: That’s it for this match as Tully Blanchard screams for mercy to referee Earl Hebner as once Lex Luger gets that Torture Rack locked in there’s no escape! Luger and Rhodes have sent a strong and loud message to the Four Horsemen tonight, especially their leader, Ric Flair, the AWA World Champion.
Dusty Rhodes: You two take that butt whoopin’ back to your boss Ricky and tell him the American Dream and Total Package are on their way and they are a comin’ for his world title!!!
Ken Resnick: What a night here at Reunion Arena! We’ll see you next week for another edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling! Good night everybody!
