Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to another action packed edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling! Coming off the heels of an intense and highly controversial pay per view last week at AWA When Worlds Collide, we hope to have some answers behind the actions from that card last week. Joining me today here at the WMC TV Studios here in Memphis, TN. is the one and only Jim Ross.
Jim Ross: Ken I couldn’t believe what we saw at AWA When Worlds Collide last week, Kaufman has the crown, Dusty has joined the Snake Pit and most of all we walked out with two separate world heavyweight champions!
Ken Resnick: Speaking of champions, here is the man that is now carrying the AWA World title, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Let’s listen in to see what he has to say about what happened at When Worlds Collide last week.
Ric Flair: I can’t believe it. Bobby Heenan, can you believe it? Fans, can you believe it? I should have walked out with both of the world titles that I walked in with last week. You all know that I had my shoulders up. I don’t know what that lousy referee Billy Duggan was thinking. But nonetheless, you can see that I am $10,000 poorer this week. That is because the bounty has been claimed! Even though Harley Race did win the NWA title from me last week, or so Bob Geigel thinks, he won’t be able to defend it. Jim Cornette decided to bring the “Russian Nightmare” Nikita Koloff to the NWA and in order for Cornette to make a name for him and establish himself as a top player here in the AWA he decided to take out the big dog and make himself $10,000 richer in the process. In taking out Harley Race, I finally got revenge for three wrongs that he did to me, taking out the three other pivotal members of the Horsemen. But fear not, just when you thought they were over and through, I present to you…
Ric Flair: …The Four Horsemen! That’s right, the band is back together again! I present to you, Barry Windham, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson. The cream of the crop in professional wrestling today, nobody can match us and nobody can beat us!
Ric Flair: I am the greatest champion the world of pro wrestling has ever seen. Whether it is yesterday, today or tomorrow, I am the greatest there ever was, past present and future. I am laying down the challenge right now, because let’s face it, there is no viable contenders left to challenge me for the title. Champions from the past, champions from today, champions of the future, I am putting out a call to you, step up to the plate and face me at the next AWA pay per view, the Superdome Spectacular. Nobody will defeat me for the AWA World Heavyweight title!
Jim Cornette: Mr. Flair, Mr. Flair, Mr. Flair, first I’d like to thank you for the money that we were presented for collecting the bounty on Harley Race. A big thick wad of cash is so much nicer than having to deal with a check that might bounce like a basketball. But moving on, I think you know what Nikita Koloff and I are out here for. We were promised one more thing in addition to the $10,000 bounty.
Ric Flair: I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about Cornette. You got your money, now go count it. We are in the middle of important business right now!
Jim Cornette: Not so fast Flair, you know why we’re here. Don’t make Nikita collect his debt in the variety of a pound of flesh. You know what was agreed to.
Ric Flair: There was no agreement, you got your $10,000, nothing more, nothing less!
Bobby Heenan: What’s he talking about Ric? I am your business advisor and I have no such knowledge of any business dealings with Jim Cornette!
Jim Ross: Looks like we have a little bit of miscommunication in the Four Horsemen after the $10,000 bounty was paid to Cornette and Koloff. An interesting situation we’ll have to keep our eye on. We’ll be back after these commercial messages.
Jake Roberts: They say that some are leaders and some are followers. They say that the king is the head of the pack and his court are his followers. I am the father of this family I have put together. And when you get inside someone’s head, sometimes you can convert them to your thoughts, ambitions, feelings and way of thinking. And that’s exactly what I have done with this man right here.
Jake Roberts: The Dream, as I said all along, is dead. It’s gone. It’s over. It’s finished. Dusty, I have a new name for you, a more fitting name to fall in with the core values of the Snake Pit. You are now the “American Nightmare” Dusty Rhodes. You are no longer a dream, you are no longer a piece of fantasy, you are reality. A harsh reality that many will feel when they try to attack the Snake Pit and in turn get bit in doing so.
Jake Roberts: Hey, what are you two doing here? Get out of here! This is a special meeting of a very secret society. You are not supposed to be here.
Ken Resnick: Bruiser Brody and Dick Murdoch have arrived on the scene and it looks like we will have our tag team match next!
Ken Resnick: Back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and these teams must be eager to fight as they jumped right in the ring and started this fight while we were away on commercial break and before a referee could even get in the ring to ring the bell to start this match.
Jim Ross: We have Bruiser Brody teaming with Dick Murdoch to take on the Snake Pit team of the enormous duo of One Man Gang & King Kong Bundy. Last week at AWA When Worlds Collide in the double ring steel cage match, we saw Dick Murdoch come back to the good side, but we saw Dusty Rhodes fall under the spell of Dusty Rhodes. He has now joined the Snake Pit. It was a devastating moment for Brody who rescued one friend but in turn lost another.
Jim Ross: Remember when I said that this was an enormous team? I meant it! One Man Gang with possibly one of the simplest yet most devastating wrestling maneuvers you can subject a man to. One Man Gang simply sitting on the chest and sternum of Dick Murdoch. In addition to the damage that it was to cause to the bones and cartilage of the ribs, he is also crushing the lungs of Murdoch and restricting his air flow. The main energy source of any wrestler is the oxygen in his lungs. Take that away, and you’ve taken away the wrestlers chances in any match.
Ken Resnick: I think King Kong Bundy is looking to make quick work of Dick Murdoch here as he has him lined up for the big Avalanche splash in the corner!
Ken Resnick: A big miss by Bundy has him gasping for his own in air over in the corner as he ran his chest and all that weight behind him hard into the turnbuckles here at the WMC Studio in Memphis. Dick Murdoch finally has the opening he needs to get to the corner to tag in Bruiser Brody.
Jim Ross: Bruiser Brody is in the ring and he is showing us the true definition of a hot tag as he is clearing out the Snake Pit. First it was a blow on Bundy, now it’s the big boot straight to the side of the face of One Man Gang. Brody is on a roll here!
Ken Resnick: Would you get a load of this? Bruiser Brody in a way is mocking King Kong Bundy and throwing some salt in the wound. Brody is using his own version of the Avalanche on Bundy over in the corner. If you want to talk about turning the tables on somebody, look no further!
Jim Ross: Looks like that’s the setup that Brody needed, as he goes for the big running knee drop. This is the move that we saw him clinch the AWA United States title with back at Wrestlemania. Brody is a master of this move and knows the exact spot on a man’s head on where to pinpoint the direct impact.
Ken Resnick: Look at the glare between Brody as he directs his scorn towards Roberts and Rhodes on the outside. Referee Danny Davis is down and we have a three count as Brody and Murdoch win this match up.
Jim Ross: The intensity in this rivalry seems to be growing every second, we thought we were going to see the culmination at AWA When Worlds Collide but that was only part of it, I can’t wait to see what will surely be the violent climax to this intense rivalry.
Jim Ross: Well, we saw him make a huge impact and collect the $10,000 bounty on the head of Harley Race last week at AWA When Worlds Collide. Now we are going to see if Nikita Koloff is the real deal in the ring when he doesn’t have the advantage of attacking a man from behind and instead has to go to toe to toe with Tito Santana.
Ken Resnick: I’ve got the feeling that we are in for a whole lot more of Jim Cornette with tricks up his sleeve…
Jim Ross: Would you look at the strength of Nikita Koloff? He has wasted no time in taking over control in this match and absolutely trying to dominate Tito Santana. Koloff is an absolute specimen here has he may be one of the strongest athletes to come out of the Soviet Union in quite some time. This guy is a monster and like you said Ken, with Cornette leading the way, who knows the destruction that this guy could cause.
Ken Resnick: That strength is on display once again as Nikita has Tito caught in a full nelson. The strain on the neck and shoulders of Santana must be immense here as Nikita flexes his rather large muscles and tries to crush Santana with this devastating submission hold.
Jim Ross: What’s he got in mind here? Nikita Koloff not so politely has whipped Tito into the ropes…
Jim Ross: OH MY! What a clothesline!
Jim Cornette: That’s called the Russian Sickle, say it Ross!
Jim Ross: Just as you heard Cornette say, Nikita Koloff connects with one of the most brutal clotheslines I think I have ever seen in my life, the Russian Sickle!
Ken Resnick: I think poor Tito was out on his feet!
Ken Resnick: Earl Hebner is down for the count and after that Russian Sickle, Nikita Koloff easily picks up the win over Tito Santana. We may need to get some smelling salts out after that one for Tito Santana. That was just absolutely devastating!
Jim Cornette: What you just saw there was only the beginning. Nikita Koloff is about to run through the AWA and claim what his rightfully his, the AWA World Title belt. Ric Flair, you just remember, you still owe us something and we will make sure that that debt is paid in full.
Ken Resnick: What could he be talking about? What could Flair possibly owe Cornette? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out. We will be right back after these commercial messages.
Ken Resnick: Talk about blood boiling feud going on in the AWA right now, look no further than the Freebirds and the Von Erichs. After the Freebirds attacked the Von Erichs at the AWA Training Center a few weeks back, they met in a tag team challenge at AWA When Worlds Collide. The Von Erichs pulled out a slim victory but you can tell this grudge is far from over. Tonight we have a singles match as Buddy Roberts takes on Mike Von Erich.
Jim Ross: Mike may make quick work of Buddy Roberts here as he already has him locked in that world famous Iron Claw! Buddy Roberts is reeling. This may be a world record for the fastest fall in AWA history!
Ken Resnick: That world record is not to be as Buddy Roberts has backed into the ropes which forces Mike Von Erich to break the Iron Claw as referee Marty Miller puts down the five count for the break as Mike risks disqualification if he doesn’t break the hold.
Jim Ross: As we have seen time and time again in matches, it always seems to be an illegal rule breaking move that causes the tide of the match to turn.
Ken Resnick: Buddy Roberts with a rake to the eyes in what seems to be a go to move for those rule breakers. The Fabulous Freebirds are one of the biggest rule breakers in wrestling today and show it every time they step in the ring.
Ken Resnick: Buddy Roberts looks to be in firm control of this match as he drops the atomic drop on Mike Von Erich.
Jim Ross: The Von Erich family as a whole were on quite a losing streak here in the AWA and were actually in danger of having their contracts terminated if they did not get back to winning ways. It was a few wins over the Freebirds that took them out of danger of getting the pink slip and of course the Fabulous Freebirds took exception to those losses they took.
Jim Ross: A mistake that we have seen Buddy Roberts make on more than once occasion, thinking he’s got the win in the bag when he doesn’t.
Ken Resnick: Jim, you know the old saying don’t you? Never count your chickens before they’re hatched!
Buddy Roberts: I got him Michael! I can’t believe they put me in matches against these weak Von Erich boys!
Michael Hayes: Buddy! Buddy! Turn around, he’s getting up!
Ken Resnick: Looks like Buddy should have listened to Michael’s advice and turned around! Mike Von Erich easily lifts Buddy Roberts up and over the top of the ropes and onto the hard concrete floor here at the WMC Studios in Memphis. Keep your eye on Mike Von Erich, he’s been known to take high risks and dive out and onto the floor.
Jim Ross: Referee Marty Miller is preventing Mike from taking that giant leap of faith by holding him back and instead putting the ten count to Roberts on the outside while we also see Michael Hayes doing some “cheerleading” to try and get back in the ring before the count so they don’t suffer another loss at the hands of the Von Erichs.
Ken Resnick: Maybe with some fabulous Freebirds losses, they may be in danger of getting the boot from the AWA roster!
Jim Ross: The back talking by Michael Hayes to Mike Von Erich has stopped the count of Marty Miller as Hayes has climbed the ring steps and is almost at the apron as he verbally spars with the youngest of the Von Erich brothers.
Ken Resnick: What’s Kevin doing in the ring? He better watch himself or he’s going to get his brother disqualified from this match for interference!
Kevin Von Erich: Mike….DUCK!
Jim Ross: What is this? With a running start and a leap off his brother Mike’s back, Kevin is leaping over the top rope and he’s headed right for Michael Hayes!
Ken Resnick: That’s one way to get Hayes out of this match! Kevin Von Erich connects with a huge dive to the outside as Michael Hayes hit his back hard on those steel ring steps. With Hayes out of the way, now is the time for Mike to swoop in and take this victory away from Buddy Roberts.
Jim Ross: There it is, the Iron Claw. This time it is locked in with Buddy Roberts in the middle of the ring with no place to go for the rope break. Roberts is screaming in pain here as Marty Miller calls for the bell as we have a winner by submission as its Mike Von Erich taking the fall over Buddy Roberts of the Fabulous Freebirds.
Jim Ross: Michael Hayes back must be really bothering him as he’s barely able to make it over to the corner to scream at the Von Erichs.
Michael Hayes: Kevin, Mike, your whole family is going to pay. Mark my words. I am going to make everyone pay from the oldest to the youngest Von Erich. The whole family is going down. No more tag team matches, the Fabulous Freebirds are at their best when they are at full strength in a six man tag match. At the next pay per view, AWA Superdome Spectacular, it’s the Freebirds and the Von Erichs, six man match. And this time, we will get what we’ve been looking for.
Ken Resnick: There you have it, the first match for AWA Superdome Spectacular has been set as in a six man tag match it will be the Fabulous Freebirds meeting the Von Erichs! We’ll be right back after these commercial messages!
Ken Resnick: Do we have to come back from that commercial break so soon? Can’t we go to another commercial break? No one wants to see Andy Kaufman!
Andy Kaufman: Hey everybody! It’s me! It’s me! Andy Kaufman! Oh hold on a second, please let me correct myself, that’s Andy “the King” Kaufman from now on! The king of Hollywood and now the king of the professional wrestling squared circle! Jerry Lawler, notice how I didn’t mention the word “king” when I said his name was easily and handily defeated last week at AWA When Worlds Collide. Now some say that Curt Hennig had something to do with that win, but let me explain why he was in the ring. Curt has so much money that he thinks a $100 bill dropped out of his pocket and into the ring. So he went out there to try and find it. Well once Curt caught wind that Lawler was trying to snag his Ben Franklin from him, Curt had enough and dumped him on his head with the Perfect Plex! Now onto other news, now that I am officially the one and only king, I now open up the challenge to anyone in my kingdom to challenge me to the crown! Let the Kaufman’s King Crown Challenge commence!
Andy Kaufman: Ah, who we do have here? It’s Carlos Colon. What’s that you say? You’re the king of the Caribbean? I’ll show you who the king of the world is!
Jim Ross: Andy better watch it here, Carlos is a wily veteran from Puerto Rico with a knack for a bit of violence in his matches. In fact many months ago, it was Carlos Colon scoring an upset victory over then AWA United States Champion and member of the Andy Kaufman’s Cabaret of Hollywood Stars, “Superstar” Billy Graham.
Jim Ross: Speaking of, I don’t think that Graham has forgotten about that upset victory that Colon pulled on him as they are having some words before this match even gets a chance to get started.
Ken Resnick: Carlos better watch out, I don’t think this is a fight that Graham is looking for but perhaps a distraction that he is planting to get Kaufman the upper hand in this match,
Ken Resnick: A blatant choke hold here by Andy Kaufman, I am not really sure how referee Earl Hebner can be missing this.
Billy Graham: That’s a sleeper hold ref, not a choke! Don’t you break that!
Jim Ross: Listen to Billy Graham playing politician here for Andy Kaufman as he is clearly getting away with a choke hold here on Carlos Colon.
Jim Ross:Carlos Colon is clearly fading here in this “sleeper hold” of Andy Kaufman as Carlos tries to pry the crown away from Kaufman here during the King Crown Challenge.
Ken Resnick: I am not sure if Carlos Colon went to sleep or passed out from the lack of blood flow to the head from a choke hold here.
Jim Ross: Nonetheless, Andy Kaufman has him down for a three count as he once again successfully defends his crown in the Andy Kaufman’s King Crown Challenge.
Ken Resnick: This is an absolute disgrace to watch. Are we going to see a victory party like this every time that Kaufman wins a match? If it wasn’t enough that Kaufman made a mockery of the AWA United States title before losing it to Bruiser Brody at Wrestlemania, Kaufman then creates his own title, “the king of professional wrestling” and railroads Jerry Lawler for his crown. Somebody needs to put a stop to Kaufman and his maniacal ways once and for all. We’ll be right back after these messages from our excellent sponsors.
Jim Ross: Main event time here on AWA All-Star Wrestling today as the Four Horsemen have demanded a “tune up” match after coming off the injured reserve list at the hands of Harley Race and his piledrivers. The Four Horsemen will be in six man tag action as they taking on Dynamite Kid, Tiger Mask and Nick Bockwinkel.
Ric Flair: The Four Horsemen are back and the greatest organization to ever grace a professional wrestling ring is back at full strength. All of the threats are gone, all of the contenders have been vanquished. The Four Horsemen are the cream of the crop in AWA and we are about to prove it to all of you.
Ken Resnick: Ric Flair definitely does not suffer from any lack of confidence. The Four Horsemen are indeed back at full strength and the entire AWA has been put on notice.
Ken Resnick: Hold on a minute, who’s this guy?
Jim Ross: A man wearing a mask has entered the ring and has confronted the Four Horsemen. Perhaps a new challenge for the Four Horsemen, one that they weren’t expecting?
Lord Humongous: I AM LORD HUMONGOUS. A MAN FROM THE PAST OF RIC FLAIR. A MAN THAT HAS COME TO SHOW YOU THAT THE STUDENT IS ABOUT TO BECOME THE TEACHER. THE FOUR HORSEMEN WILL NEVER RUN THE AWA AS LONG AS I AM HERE. LORD HUMONGOUS HAS COME FOR REVENGE, WRATH AND DEVASTATION. THE DEVASTATION STARTS NOW!
Jim Ross: Lord Humongous has attacked and it looks like Dynamite, Tiger Mask and Bockwinkel are joining his side as the Four Horsemen have been ambushed and blindsided and don’t have a clue what has hit them or why Lord Humongous is here in the first place! Who is this guy? He said the student is about to become the teacher? Perhaps an old ally or enemy of Ric Flair?
Ken Resnick: Either way Jim, the Four Horsemen are totally overmatched in this sneak attack situation and they are getting the snot kicked out of them!
Ric Flair: Lord Humongous, I don’t know who you are, but when I find out, you are going to receive the full wrath of the Horsemen and you’ll be sent back to whatever hole you crawled out of! Mark my words, you just made the biggest mistake of your life messing with the AWA World Champion and the Four Horsemen!
Jim Ross: Well, we apologize that the main event never got under way as it was ruled a no contest after Lord Humongous interjected himself into the match. But who is this man? Why has he come to the AWA? We’ll hope to have those answers next week as we hope you join us on AWA All-Star Wrestling. Good night everybody!
