Ken Resnick: Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting and action packed edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling as I am joined here at ringside by my commentating colleagues, Gorilla Monsoon and Gordon Solie as we are here at the beautiful Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island tonight as we are one week away from the next AWA PPV spectacular, AWA When Worlds Collide which is only available on PPV which will be live from the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, Illinois!
Gorilla Monsoon: And what a way to start out the show tonight as we have Andy Kaufman along with his Cabaret of Hollywood Stars making their way out to the ring.
Gordon Solie: It was just last week that after Kaufman anointed himself the king of professional wrestling that he may not have the only claim to that thrown as Jerry Lawler made his royal presence felt in punching Kaufman right in the face. I am sure that Kaufman will have something to say about that tonight.
Andy Kaufman: You all saw it. You all saw it last week. I was brutally attacked by that man that is nothing but a joker, and not a king, Jerry Lawler. Well Lawler, do I have a surprise for you. You can’t just come out here and attack anybody that you want unprovoked. You don’t hit the caliber of a Hollywood star without a contract. And I know there was no contract for last week’s attack. So just like we all do in Hollywood, I am about to get the law involved. Jerry Lawler, you better be checking your mailbox, because you are about to be served with felony assault papers!
Gordon Solie: Here comes Jerry down to the ring, he’s got a crown on, Kaufman has a crown on, I think the people want to know who the real king of professional wrestling is. There are too many kings and not enough loyal subjects to go around here!
Jerry Lawler: Andy, you know you made that crown during an arts and crafts class. You know the real crown is on my head. You’re going to press charges on me? How about we forget about all that and settle it how it’s supposed to be done, in the ring. Next week at AWA When Worlds Collide, I’ll put my crown on the line, you put yours on the line, and winner takes all.
Andy Kaufman: Why would I do that? That makes no sense for me. I already am the one and only real king. I’ll tell you what, if you want this match so bad with the king, then if you can get past the current AWA US champion, John Studd right now in a match, I’ll give you that match next week!
Gorilla Monsoon: I guess we don’t even need a verbal answer out of Jerry Lawler as he immediately attacks John Studd to get this match under way and come one step closer to show Andy Kaufman that he is the true king in the AWA.
Gordon Solie: Jerry Lawler going to town on John Studd in the corner as listen to the crowd here in Providence count along with Lawler as he lays ten hard punches into the top of the head of John Studd. Lawler really wants this match with Kaufman, but it’s going to be hard to get by a guy that is a current champion here in the AWA.
Ken Resnick: John Studd is reeling in the corner as Andy Kaufman tries to comfort him. Jerry Lawler really wants to pounce on Studd by referee Earl Hebner is holding Lawler back from trying to finish off Studd.
Gorilla Monsoon: Lawler turned his back for one moment to verbally spar with Andy Kaufman and it may cost him. You can’t get caught in a bear hug from a man like John Studd who is undoubtedly one of the strongest men in the world of professional wrestling today.
Ken Resnick: John Studd now working over the back of Jerry Lawler with first the bear hug and now continuing to work over Lawler with multiple body slams onto the back.
Gordon Solie: A very smart move perhaps for Studd in working over the back of Lawler. Lawler’s bread and butter is that piledriver. With Studd’s size and weight it would already be a chore to get Studd up for the piledriver, let alone try to get him up with a bad back.
Gorilla Monsoon: Studd may be celebrating a little prematurely here as he thinks he already has Lawler finished off and he’ll be moving onto bigger and better things. But we’ve seen Lawler fight back from even greater odds, so this is a guy that you can never count out at any time.
Ken Resnick: The gloating has gone a little too far for Studd as Kaufman is screaming for him to kick out but Earl Hebner is down and we have a three count as Jerry Lawler has just defeated the AWA United States Champion, John Studd, in a non-title match and in turn has set up a match between himself and Andy Kaufman next week at AWA When Worlds Collide.
Gordon Solie: Earl Hebner is raising the hand of Jerry Lawler in victory as I think Andy Kaufman is now finally coming to the realization of what may happen to him next week at AWA When Worlds Collide.
Ken Resnick: Let’s go back to the AWA Training Center as Kerry and Kevin Von Erich are hard at work training to get themselves back in the AWA World Tag Team title picture after their count out loss last week due to the interference of the Fabulous Freebirds.
Kerry Von Erich: Kevin, can you believe last week? Mike and I had those titles, but those darn Freebirds had to come get in our business. You know we couldn’t leave you behind to get beat up three on one, my brother is more important than a title belt. But I could ring the neck of those Freebirds….
Ken Resnick: I think the Fabulous Freebirds had some ringing in their ears that somebody was talking about them as they have attacked the Von Erichs. They had better watch it as Michael Hayes has brought that bottle of Freebird Hair Cream with him and as we saw with Junkyard Dog, that stuff can easily blind a man!
Ken Resnick: No, not the Freebird Hair Cream! Phew! Mike Von Erich has saved his brother from the attack as he grabs Michael Hayes’s arm before he can put that hair cream into the eyes of his brother!
Mike Von Erich: You guys want to butt into our business? I got an idea, we’ll get into YOUR business! Next week, tag match, you pick two, we’ll pick two.
Michael Hayes: You’re on boy. We’re going to send you back to your daddy with your tail between your legs. Get ready to get the beating of your life!
Ken Resnick: Welcome back here to AWA All-Star Wrestling as in the ring now we have the man who defeated Tiger Mask to become the new WWF Jr. Heavyweight Champion, the amazing and high flying Dynamite Kid. After such a great match between the two last week, it was really a shame to see Buddy Rose come and tear down the accomplishments of the two men.
Dynamite Kid: Last week, I had the biggest night of my professional wrestling career. In what is already being called an instant classic amongst many wrestling circles, I defeated Tiger Mask to become the new WWF Jr. Heavyweight Champion. But in the midst of my celebration, I don’t think I have ever been so verbally disrespected than I was when Buddy Rose, that fat, out of shape, weighing in at 271, not 217 pounds, bum came in and disrespected junior heavyweight wrestlers all over the world…
Buddy Rose: Fat? Out of shape? The incorrect weight? Yes, let me set the record straight, it is 217 pounds, not 271 pounds. But I digress. Dynamite Kid, you juniors can’t hang with the big tough guys like Doug and me. There’s no place for you in professional wrestling. This is a big man’s game, so get out of it, before I beat you out of it!
Gorilla Monsoon: Here comes Tiger Mask to the side of the Dynamite Kid. This make get interesting in a hurry!
Dynamite Kid: No place for guys like Tiger Mask and myself? We’ll see about that. I am willing to press my luck here. I already won gold last week and I’d like to try and win some more gold next week. How about you and Somers shine those tag belts up real nice and meet Tiger mask and I at AWA When Worlds Collide and put those tag team titles on the line? You know, I would give you a shot at the WWF Jr. Heavyweight title Buddy, but something tells me you wouldn’t fit the weight restriction!
Ken Resnick: OK, I have to give it to the Dynamite Kid, that was a pretty good joke…
Buddy Rose: It’s about time we taught you two little guys a thing or two about messing with the big guys. You’re on for next week. You better pack yourself a lunch pail kid….
Ken Resnick: And we have ourselves yet another match for AWA When Worlds Collide next week as it will be Buddy Rose and Doug Somers defending the AWA World Tag Team titles against the challenge of Dynamite Kid and Tiger Mask.
Roddy Piper: Attention! Attention! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls….I would like to welcome you in to another star studded edition of Piper’s Pit. Sit down, have a seat, take a load off. Boy do I have a guest for you tonight, or should I say two guests, you want the answers, the Hot Rod definitely knows the questions to get those answers.
Roddy Piper: Please help me welcome down to Piper’s Pit tonight the leader of well, the Snake Pit, who will ironically will be on Piper’s Pit, Jake “The Snake” Roberts along with his newest follower, Dick Murdoch. Come on down guys, don’t be shy, don’t you go worrying, the Hot Rod don’t bite!
Roddy Piper: Now going into this two ring cage match coming up at AWA When Worlds Collide we know what the Snake Pit team is set as it will be yourself, Dick Murdoch, One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy taking on…well I guess it’s only going to be two men, Dusty Rhodes and Bruiser Brody. How confident are you in those numbers right now?
Jake Roberts: It’s simple Roddy. I’ll tell you why no one will join them in that cage next week. They’re afraid. They’re afraid of four of the biggest and most sadistic men in wrestling today. They’re afraid to get hurt. They’re afraid to lose their careers. They’re afraid to lose their livelihood.
Roddy Piper: Afraid? Afraid of a guy that probably carries around a bag of rubber snakes? And who’s this guy? He looks like he just got off the farm with Old McDonald wearing that sheep mask around here.
Jake Roberts: Who are you to judge us Piper? It is men like you that have turned men like us into the beasts that we are. You should watch what you say Piper, one day, just like the snake, it may come back to bite you.
Roddy Piper: Ah get outta town Roberts, the Hot Rod ain’t no scared of no barnyard animals!
Gordon Solie: It does look like Roberts words did come true as Roddy’s words have come back to bite him like a snake as Jake Roberts has had enough of Piper’s verbal abuse and is attacking the Hot Rod with that ever so dangerous mystical club. That thing can put spells on people and apparently it can do a load of physical damage as well!
Gorilla Monsoon: Jake Roberts is going for his patented DDT on a chair to Roddy Piper but here comes Bruiser Brody to save the day as he is swinging his chain and has connected to the side of the head of his onetime friend, but now bitter foe, Dick Murdoch! Brody surely saved Piper from a possible concussion from landing on that steel chair from a Jake Roberts DDT.
Ken Resnick: Brody has cleared the ring, but the damage has already been done as Roberts and Murdoch look over their handy work. If it wasn’t for Brody making the save, who knows what those two sadistic men would have done to Piper. We’ll be right back after these commercial messages from our wonderful sponsors.
Ric Flair: So next week it is. Next week, how is it that one man has everything to gain and one man has everything to lose? And of course it’s the Nature Boy that has everything to lose. I have to put my AWA and NWA World Heavyweight titles on the line as well as this $10,000 bounty on the head of Harley Race. So I have to put up three very valuable things, what does Race have to put up? Nothing.
Bobby Heenan: The AWA doesn’t understand the value of Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen. We are the elite group in the AWA today. What if we just got up and left tomorrow over the disrespect that we are being shown? At AWA When Worlds Collide, you people better be jamming the Rosemont Horizon to the rafters, out the door and around the block, because you will have the opportunity to see the greatest world champion of this generation, no no, ANY generation defeat Harley Race so that all the challengers will be vanquished and there will be nothing left for Ric Flair to do but sit on his thrown for the rest of eternity.
Ric Flair: Harley Race, you want this title? You want it? Come and get it. But this will be the fight of your life and I promise you won’t be walking out of Chicago the same man as you were when you entered. The Nature Boy is here to finally put down the thorn in his paw that has been bugging him since way back at AWA War Games. And once I defeat you at AWA When Worlds Collide, Harley Race will be ripe for the picking for any man to come and give him a piledriver to put him out of action and collect this $10,000 bounty.
Jim Cornette: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, before you all go calling security on me, I just want to let you know that this TV time has been bought and paid for by James E. Cornette himself.
Gordon Solie: Alright Mr. Cornette, you have your TV time, now what would you like to tell the great fans of the AWA here in Providence tonight?
Jim Cornette: There’s a reason I am in the AWA. If you all think that I am here just to make a fuss and appear on your television screens every week, then you’ve got the wrong idea. I am here with a single plan in mind, all the championships in the AWA. Now I know that some of you are sitting out there thinking, “well how’s he going to do that, he’s not a wrestler and he’s got nobody with him.” Hahahahah, you’ll soon see who’s by my side. Once you see the mega force that I have put together I know that all the wrestlers in the AWA will run in fear and in their retreat will drop those title belts to us along the way. James E. Cornette Enterprises is just about to get rolling, and when we make he waves that we do, just wait and see what happens next.
Gordon Solie: Well, you heard it here, Cornette Enterprises is on its way. We don’t know who, what, when or where, but Cornette has made one promise that he’s after the titles of the AWA. We’ll be right back after these commercial messages.
Gorilla Monsoon: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and it is main event time as we have Dusty Rhodes taking on One Man Gang of the Snake Pit in a small preview of the giant double cage match next week at AWA When Worlds Collide.
Ken Resnick: The match is almost here as we tick down the seconds to AWA When Worlds Collide but still it seems that Dusty Rhodes and Bruiser Brody are two men down in their battle against the Snake Pit.
Gordon Solie: Dusty is steaming at the Snake Pit and would love to get his hands on any one of them. Referee Scrappy McGowan is having a tough time trying to hold back Dusty from attacking before the bell.
Ken Resnick: The bell rings to get this match under way and immediately One Man Gang uses his size advantage to gain control on Dusty Rhodes.
Gorilla Monsoon: Ken, usually you would say a “considerable” size advantage in a match involving One Man Gang, but not tonight as Dusty is only a bit smaller than the Gang. Dusty definitely presents a challenge to the Gang in an area in which he usually has a considerable advantage.
Gordon Solie: One Man Gang may not even let Dusty get to AWA When Worlds Collide. You know that Jake Roberts sent him in there with orders to destroy at all costs and that’s exactly what he’s trying to do here as he has Dusty pinned in the corner and his driving that huge boot of his right into Dusty’s throat.
Ken Resnick: Forget the 4 on 2 advantage that the Snake Pit has right now, if this match keeps going this way, it may end up being a 4 on 1 advantage and Bruiser Brody may find himself all alone.
Gorilla Monsoon: Jake Roberts is trying everything to get Dusty out of this match as he has instructed One Man Gang to climb to the top rope for a Super 747 Splash! If Dusty doesn’t get out of the way, the match at AWA When Worlds Collide may be over before it even starts!
Ken Resnick: And in a crash that probably registered on the Richter scale here in Providence, one Man Gang has missed with the Super 747 Splash and this is the opening that Dusty needs to get back into this match and perhaps soften the Gang up a little bit to even up the odds going into the big match next week!
Gordon Solie: There’s Dusty dropping one of those patented elbows into the back of the neck of the One Man Gang.
Gorilla Monsoon: Many of Dusty’s opponents have come out of matches saying that those elbows he gives you to the head and neck is almost like having a jolt of electricity jolt through your body. He has perfected exactly where to hit a man in his body to get the maximum physical effect to dame his opponents.
Gorilla Monsoon: Oh no, just when we thought things were going Dusty’s way, Jake Roberts is on the apron with the mystical club and he’s trying to put a spell on Dusty!
Gordon Solie: Dusty better snap out of this real quick because it looks like he’s only moments away from succumbing to that spell from Jake Roberts and the mystical club.
Ken Resnick: And for the second time tonight, here is Bruiser Brody to make the save. Just as it looked like the magical spell of Jake Roberts was about to take hold, Brody comes in and clobbers Jake Roberts over the back with a steel chair!
Gorilla Monsoon: Unfortunately for Dusty Rhodes, that will earn him a disqualification loss so picking up the win in tonight’s main event will be the One Man Gang.
Gordon Solie: I am sure that Dusty can live with the DQ loss as he’d rather have that than being under the magical spell of Jake Roberts. But he came oh so close to falling under the power of Jake Roberts.
Gorilla Monsoon: The Snake Pit has now evened up the odds here as Dick Murdoch, the newest “follower” of Jake Roberts has entered the ring and smashes that steel chair over the head of Bruiser Brody.
Ken Resnick: We knew this 4 on 2 advantage would eventually catch up to Dusty Rhodes and Bruiser Brody, we just didn’t know that it was going to catch up to them before we even got to the double cage match at AWA When Worlds Collide.
Gordon Solie: Wait just a minute! Roddy Piper who we saw get attacked by Jake Roberts and Dick Murdoch earlier in the show has emerged from the back and he has not come alone as he has with him the “Eight Wonder of the World” Andre the Giant!
Ken Resnick: I am excited now Gordon and Gorilla! The sides have finally been evened up after Roddy and Andre have come to the rescue, now we have a fair fight!
Dusty Rhodes: Jake Roberts, ain’t so tough now are ya? You don’t like it when the numbers ain’t in your favor! The American Dream always has a plan, sometimes they may take a little longer to develop, but when they do, the Dream knows how to come through in a big way, no pun intended Andre! So what do you say? We got that double cage match coming up next week at AWA When Worlds Collide, there’s four of us now, there’s four of you, looks like we are about to have ourselves a Chi-town rumble! We’ll see you next week boys!
Ken Resnick: What a way to end the night, Dusty Rhodes has found himself a couple of partners and now the battle will be Dusty Rhodes, Bruiser Brody, Roddy Piper and the one and only Andre the Giant taking on the Snake Pit team of Jake Roberts, One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy and Dick Murdoch.
Gorilla Monsoon: Also on tap we have Jerry Lawler taking on Andy Kaufman for possession of both of the king’s crowns as well as the title of “the king of professional wrestling”. The Fabulous Freebirds will take on the Von Erichs in a tag team match. Also Buddy Rose & Doug Somers defend the AWA World Tag Team titles against the challenge of Dynamite Kid and Tiger Mask.
Gordon Solie: And finally in a match for both the AWA and NWA World titles, Ric Flair defends those titles against longtime nemesis Harley Race. And remember adding a layer of intrigue to that match is the $10,000 bounty that Ric Flair has been put on the head of Harley Race.
Ken Resnick: For Gorilla Monsoon and Gordon Solie, I am Ken Resnick saying so long for this edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling. Make sure to join us next week exclusively on pay per view as the AWA presents…When Worlds Collide! Good night everybody!
