Ken Resnick: Welcome everyone to AWA All-Star Wrestling as we are here this week at the Portland Sports Arena as I am Ken Resnick joined alongside here at with my announcing partner, the one and only Gordon Solie.
Gordon Solie: Unfortunately today, we have to start our show on a somewhat sour note as making his way to the ring right now is Greg Gagne who has a sad announcement that he will be making here to the great fans of the AWA here today.
Greg Gagne: As you all know, I have been fighting a lot of neck and shoulder problems here over the past couple months after the AWA War Games ladder match where Buddy Rose and Doug Somers pushed myself, Curt Hennig and The Road Warriors off the top of the ladder and through tables. Because of that nasty fall, I hurt my shoulder pretty severely and unfortunately I need to make a rather unfortunate announcement here today that I will be retiring from the world of professional wrestling as of this moment. I have had a very long and prosperous career and I want to thanks each and every one of the fans for making my career all that much more enjoyable.
Ken Resnick: What a show of respect here by some of the wrestlers in the locker room as Steve Williams, Bill Watts, Ronnie Garvin and Andre the Giant have all come down here to pay their respects to the great career of Greg Gagne. What a great show of sportsmanship and gratitude here by all the wrestlers that have come out here to ringside in their show of solidarity towards Greg.
Gordon Solie: The most grateful of all these respect these men has got to be the tag team partner of Greg Gagne who was right alongside him in what turned out to be his last match, Curt Hennig. Here comes Curt heading down to the ring looks as it looks like he's got the microphone and has something to say here to Greg Gagne.
Curt Hennig: You know Greg, I want to congratulate you on such a great career and you know that through all these hard times we were to put all of our blood sweat and tears into professional wrestling and in the end we were rewarded by winning the AWA World Tag Team Championship. I'll tell you what Greg if there's one thing that I learned about in this career is that sometimes you need to go and take that step above do what is best for yourself and in retiring here, I think you are doing what is best for yourself.
Gordon Solie: The rest of the wrestlers have paid their respects and are leaving the ringside area along with Greg Gagne.
Curt Hennig: Wait a minute Greg, there's one more thing that I forgot to add about my last statement. There’s a reason that retirement was good for you. Because you were washed up! You were holding back a star like me. Taking the spotlight away from a star like me. You need to get out of professional wrestling so that I can be the star now! There's one mistake that I made in my career and that was to let you hold a star down like me down! You're the reason why I never got higher than I ever have, but that’s enough of that, I am about to bypass you a thousand times over and that path begins right now!
Ken Resnick: What is this?! Curt Hennig has attacked Greg Gagne as he just stuck that microphone into his eye and is smashing Greg Gagne over the head with it! Curt Hennig has snapped and turned on his longtime best friend Greg Gagne and is attacking him unmercifully with the microphone and is trying to blind him!
Ken Resnick: What kind of move was that? Hennig just dumped Greg Gagne right on his head with some sort of suplex maneuver which I have never seen.
Curt Hennig: I'm going tell you what, no more Mr. Nice Guy! You are about to see the revitalization of my career as I am no longer just Curt Hennig, I am “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and there's nothing you can do about it! Greg, you were just the first to suffer the wrath of the Perfect Plex! This is only the beginning, you just wait. I am the man, and I am perfect!
Ken Resnick: I can’t believe what we have just saw. What a despicable act. We’ll be right back after these commercial messages.
Gordon Solie: Last week we saw Andy Kaufman proclaim himself the new king of professional wrestling when he defeated John Studd who was actually in on the entire deal in getting Kaufman the crown. Would you look at this as here comes Kaufman being carried to the ring by fellow members of the Andy Kaufman Cabaret of Hollywood Stars, Billy Graham and Gino Hernandez.
Andy Kaufman: Hear ye, hear ye, I am the one and only Andy Kaufman the new king of professional wrestling bow down peasants!
Andy Kaufman: I am the newest champion here in the AWA alongside my good friends of the royal court, Billy, John and Gino, I will forever be the champion of the universe. The king of the Galaxy if you were. Although the intergalactic challenge has ceased because of the loss of the AWA United States Championship I now proclaim this is a new era of the Kaufman’s Kings Crown Challenge!
Ken Resnick: Here comes a guy that might take some sort of exception to Kaufman being called the king as here comes Jerry “the King” Lawler down to the ring. What is he going to have to say to Kaufman here?
Jerry Lawler: Andy Kaufman, how can you call yourself the king of professional wrestling I have always been and always will be the king of professional wrestling? This is the real crowd on my head and I don't know what kind of silly toy crown you have on your head but when you're not the king until you wear the real crown. I've been the king of the professional wrestling world for years now and you have no right to call yourself the king. So get out of here with your silly claims.
Andy Kaufman: No! No! No! That's not right! I defeated John Studd last week I defeated a much bigger man than you, a much tougher opponent than you, I then became the king for the entire world to see. You have no right to put a claim down on my throne. You will have to wait in line to try to become the true king of professional wrestling. But I will tell you know that you do not deserve a shot at this crown and you will never get a shot at my crown! You will never ever be in contention for Kaufman's Kings Crown Challenge!
Gordon Solie: And Jerry Lawler is taking exception to Andy Kaufman calling himself the king as the real king delivers a giant right hand to the chin of Andy Kaufman! Lawler knows that he is outnumbered and quickly gets out of the ring before he gets pounced on!
Jerry Lawler: You know what, I'll tell you Andy Kaufman I am not happy with you considering yourself a king. If you want to claim that you’re the real king you will have to fight me to see who the real crown jewel here is in the AWA! At AWA When Worlds Collide, I'll put my crown up against your crown, the winner will be the king of professional wrestling and walk out with both crowns. I’m not sure if Andy Kaufman will be able to reply back to the challenge right now as he is down and out with Billy Graham checking to see if Kaufman still has all of his teeth in his mouth! John Studd looks on over Jerry Lawler with a scowl on his face, he doesn’t look like a happy customer after that attack on his boss.
Gordon Solie: Up next here on AWA All-Star Wrestling, we have a special match for you as the WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship is about to be decided here on AWA soil here at the Portland Sports Arena as we have the challenger coming out to ringside right now as from England it is the Dynamite Kid. Dynamite is one of the top junior heavyweights in the world today as we have seen a few times here in the AWA.
Ken Resnick: Dynamite’s opponent tonight is the man we saw make his AWA debut back at the Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team Tournament as the one and only Tiger Mask from Japan will be taking on the Dynamite Kid as he defends the WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship. What a match we're going to have here between two of the highest flying men in professional wrestling today.
Ken Resnick: Referee Danny Davis holding up the WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship belt right now as Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid are definitely no strangers to each other about to go face to face with the belt on the line.
Gordon Solie: Looks like it could be a high flying and hard hitting match here on AWA All-Star Wrestling today, time to sit back and enjoy this match between two great competitors.
Ken Resnick: Dynamite Kid is starting off the match with a headlock on Tiger Mask but you will definitely have to watch out for the aerial acrobatics of Tiger Mask as he is able to do flips and twirls and in an instant can change the whole complexion of a match.
Gordon Solie: Tiger Mask is able to reverse out of that headlock and now with a head spinning tilt a while he is taking Dynamite Kid and spinning him around and around and where Dynamite Kid stops nobody knows!
Ken Resnick: Dynamite Kid has been flung to the outside of the ring as he is now standing perilously by the apron and it looks like Tiger Mask is lining him up possibly for one of those signature running dives that he loves to connect with on opponents.
Gordon Solie: Tiger Mask uses a running start and up he jumps over the top rope and connects with a huge dive onto the Dynamite Kid who is waiting on the outside!
Ken Resnick: Tiger Mask is now taking advantage here on the outside as he has Dynamite Kid up on his shoulders and is possibly looking for a body slam here on the hard concrete floor of the Portland Sports Arena. This would be an absolutely devastating maneuver.
Gordon Solie: That was no body slam! Tiger Mask connects with a front piledriver that I believe is called the “tombstone piledriver” on to the Dynamite Kid. He dropped him right on top of his head here on the floor of the Portland Sports Arena. This match could easily become a count out victory for Tiger Mask.
Ken Resnick: Tiger Mask is now putting Dynamite Kid back in the ring as he does a backflip moonsault onto the Dynamite Kid! Tiger Mask is looking well on his way to retaining his WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship!
Gordon Solie: Spoke too soon there Ken, Tiger Mask with a big miss and now Dynamite Kid may have the upper hand here after that backflip missed the mark for Tiger Mask.
Ken Resnick: Dynamite Kid is showing his technical expertise here as he has Tiger Mask up in a surfboard hold. The back and the arms of Tiger Mask are really being stretched out here by the Dynamite Kid as he's got to be in extreme pain in this submission hold.
Ken Resnick: Dynamite Kid may be setting up Tiger Mask here for his finishing maneuver as he has got him in that back under the hook suplex and he loves to finish opponents off with. He also uses the under hook suplex to setup for the diving headbutt.
Gordon Solie: Dynamite Kid drops Tiger Mask down on the back of his neck as Danny Davis is down for the two count but Tiger Mask is able to escape the pinning attempt of the Dynamite Kid. Tiger Mask may have been in a very sticky situation there and may be losing his claim to the WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship here.
Ken Resnick: Dynamite Kid comes flying off the top rope and it looks like this may be the end for Tiger Mask if he connects with the flying headbutt!
Ken Resnick: With a sickening thud Dynamite Kid connects with a flying headbutt and has dropped Tiger Mask down to the mat. Tiger Mask may be done for at this point!
Gordon Solie: Referee Danny Davis is down, one count, two count, and that is three! We have a new WWF Jr. Heavyweight Champion, the Dynamite Kid!
Ken Resnick: The ultimate sign of respect here as Dynamite Kid and Tiger Mask are both shaking hands here as Danny Davis gets ready to present the Dynamite Kid with the WWF Jr. Heavyweight Championship belt.
Gordon Solie: Dynamite Kid and Tiger Mask showing each other respect tons of respect here by raising the others arm in victory, but wait a minute here come the AWA World Tag Team Champions, Buddy Rose and Doug Somers as they are flanked by their valet the “Sensational” Sherri Martel!
Buddy Rose: You know that was cute and all shaking hands and raising arms and I have to give to you that you two had a great match and everything. But that's not a real championship, that's a Jr. Heavyweight Championship. You know the real competitors are up fighting for world titles. Not these little middle of the pack titles. Doug and I are the AWA World Tag Team Champions, we are real wrestlers not these flippy floppy wrestlers that claim to be world class like we know we are.
Buddy Rose: That’s right, get out of the ring, this place is only for WORLD champions!
Gordon Solie: What an ultimate sign of disrespect by Buddy Rose after we just saw an all-time classic match here on AWA All-Star Wrestling between Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid. Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid look like they might've formed a great friendship, as they both make their way back to the locker room area.
Ken Resnick: Buddy Rose and Doug Somers are indeed scheduled for a world tag team title defense tonight as they will be defending the championships against Mike and Kerry Von Erich as their brother Kevin is escorting them down to the ring. Let's see if Mike and Kerry can turn the tide as they have seem to be picking up steam here in the past couple weeks here in AWA after a rather lengthy losing streak that we saw them on.
Gordon Solie: What are they doing here? The Fabulous Freebirds of Buddy Roberts, Terry Gordy and Michael Hayes are interrupting the Von Erichs tag team title shot.
Michael Hayes: The Fabulous Freebirds are the hottest thing going today in professional wrestling, we are the ones that should have world tag team title shot against Rose and Somers. The loser Von Erichs can’t even win a match, why do they get a title shot?
Michael Hayes: Alright boys, all three of you back off, Terry and Buddy are the ones that are going to get this world tag team title shot, not you loser brothers. Get out of our way, we are the ones that are going to claim this world tag team title shot and beat Rose and Somers for the gold!
Ken Resnick: The Fabulous Freebirds apparently act upon what they say as they are attacking the Von Erichs and it looks like they want to be the ones who the claim the AWA World Tag Team title shot. Rose and Somers have to be enjoying what is going on outside the ring as they get to sit and watch these guys battle it out and then will defend their AWA World Tag Team titles against a weakened Von Erichs team.
Gordon Solie: The Freebirds are very proud of themselves here as they know they're not the ones that get the tag team title shot tonight but they have left the team that does have that shot laying in the Von Erichs. Rose and Somers look they will easily retain the tag team titles now after that beat down by the Freebirds.
Ken Resnick: Kerry Von Erich is a fighter as he is trying to crawl his way back into the ring as referee Scrappy McGowan is putting the count on Kerry. The bell has already rung and Buddy Rose is just standing there waiting for him to see if you'll even get in the ring. If Buddy gets his way, he won't even have to lay a finger on him and he’ll win the match. But Kerry knows that title opportunities come few and far between so he’s trying to make the best of it by getting in the ring.
Gordon Solie: Kerry just gets in before Scrappy McGowan makes the ten count on him but he immediately is ambushed by Buddy Rose as soon as he gets in the ring.
ken Resnick: Buddy Rose has now locked in one of his favorite submission holds in as it is the Boston Crab. Scrappy McGowan is down asking Kerry Von Erich if he’d like to give it up but Kerry Von Erich been very resilient and they definitely would love to change their fortune and the way they do that is by getting their hands on the title belts.
Gordon Solie: Buddy Rose is showboating and I don't think he realizes that Kerry Von Erich has been able to make his way over to the corner and he's going to get the tag off to his brother Mike!
Ken Resnick: Here comes Mike into the ring as he is a house of fire as he comes up with a big flying dropkick connecting on Buddy Rose that sends the AWA Tag Team Champion reeling into the corner.
Gordon Solie: Here comes Doug Somers after the tag but he runs into a big back body drop by Mike Von Erich. The champions seemingly had things well in hand then all of a sudden they could be on the losing end in this match!
Ken Resnick: This could be! This could be the time for the Von Erichs! Kerry dumps Buddy Rose over the top rope and Mike has the famous Von Erich Iron Claw on Doug Somers and looks like we may have a submission here for new AWA World Tag Team champions!
Gordon Solie: Mike as his full attention on trying to get the submission so I don't think he sees that the Fabulous Freebirds have made remerged and are attacking Kerry on the outside. Looks like Kevin and Kerry are all of a sudden outnumbered by the Fabulous Freebirds.
Ken Resnick: Mike finally realizing what is going on as he is yelling at Terry Gordy to turn around it looks like Mike may have some sort of trick up his sleeve to catch Terry Gordy off guard.
Gordon Solie: Mike comes flying off the apron of the ring and he delivers a big body press onto Terry Gordy! Mike is now joining in the fray against the Freebirds has the sides have now been evened up.
Gordon Solie: The Freebirds and the Von Erichs are just going out tooth and nail on the outside, meanwhile referee Scrappy McGowan is in the ring with Buddy Rose and Doug Somers and he is putting the count on the Von Erich team as it is up to 8…..9……and 10. The Von Erichs have just been counted out of this match after brawling with the Fabulous Freebirds on the outside.
Ken Resnick: There they are, the AWA World Tag Team champions, Buddy Rose and Doug Somers with their valet, “Sensational” Sherri Martel, as they defeat Kerry and Mike Von Erich via count out to retain the titles with an assist from the Fabulous Freebirds. We will be right back after these messages.
Gordon Solie: Andy Kaufman has successfully petitioned for a AWA US title rematch, but in a last second change, it will be John Studd getting the title shot instead of Andy. The newest member of the Andy Kaufman Cabaret of Hollywood Stars face a stiff test here in the current AWA United States champion, Bruiser Brody. Back at Wrestlemania it was Bruiser Brody defeating Kaufman to capture the title. We’ll have to see how this match goes down now that Studd is a last minute substitute for Kaufman.
Ken Resnick: The battle of the giant starts off with John Studd landing a giant blow to the top of the head of Brody. This might be one of those rare times for Brody where he might actually be outsized and out muscled by John Studd who along with Andre the Giant is perhaps one of the tallest man in all of professional wrestling.
Gordon Solie: John Studd working on that knee of Bruiser Brody. That's also the same knee that Brody likes to use for that big running knee drop to finish off opponents. That same running knee drop that he used back at Wrestlemania to win the championship from Andy Kaufman…
Ken Resnick: Brody coming back here as he is showing he is superior over John Studd as he comes down with a double stomp onto the chest of John Studd. John Studd has got to be hurting internally and externally after an extreme move like that from Brody.
Gordon Solie: We are at about the ten minute mark of this grueling match as Brody is winding up for his big knee drop but Andy Kaufman is up on the ringside apron distracting referee Danny Davis. Brody looks like he's ready to connect with the knee drop for the pin but Andy Kaufman has of course stuck his nose in where it doesn’t belong!
Ken Resnick: What is he doing out here and why did he just hit Brody?!
Gordon Solie: Jake Roberts of all people has just hit Brody over the head with the mystical club! Could this have something to do with the fact that Bruiser Brody was the one that rescued Dusty Rhodes from the attack of Jake and his Snake Pit last week here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and in turn attacked the entire Snake Pit and laid down the challenge for AWA When Worlds Collide?!
Ken Resnick: Here comes Dusty Rhodes to help out Brody but it looks like it's going to be a little too late here as John Studd has pinned Bruiser Brody as Danny Davis is down for the count and we have a three count and a NEW AWA United States champion in John Studd. Dusty Rhodes though is continuing to brawl with Jake Roberts on the outside well after the decision has been reached in this match.
Gordon Solie: Well, it’s official now as Danny Davis is presenting the AWA United States Championship belt to the new champion, John Studd with his manager Andy Kaufman. The self-proclaimed king of professional wrestling now has the AWA US champion amongst his ranks now as well.
Ken Resnick: Meanwhile, on the outside Dusty Rhodes may have found himself yet another partner that can really fight off the Snake Pit as Brody is upset over Jake Roberts being the one to cost him the AWA United States championship as they attack with the big boot to Jake! AWA When Worlds Collide in that double cage match is going to be something to behold. The Snake Pit has their four members, but who will join alongside Dusty and Brody to fight them? They better find some guys fast as we are only two weeks away from that super show! We will be right back after these commercial messages here on the AWA!
Gordon Solie: Here comes the AWA and NWA World Heavyweight Champion, the one and only Ric Flair. Alongside him is the only not injured Four Horseman member in Barry Windham and their business advisor, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Let's hear what Flair has to say.
Ric Flair: Two weeks ago Harley Race took out Arn Anderson with a piledriver and only last week he took out yet another of my friends in Tully Blanchard as tricked me into a AWA and NWA World Title shot. The only member left of the Four Horseman besides me that is still standing is Barry Windham. Drastic times for call drastic measures. And that’s why I have a proposition to make to the entire world of professional wrestling. Inside this metal briefcase that I have with me, I have $10,000 inside of it. That $10,000 can be claimed the person or persons who can put Harley Race out of commission for me by giving Race a piledriver and injuring him. That's right, I am putting a bounty on the head of Harley Race for attacking all of the Four Horsemen. This is life changing money, this is the kind of task that can put your name on the map and make you a instant star here in the AWA.
Ken Resnick: Here comes Harley Race to the ring and he’s not alone as he's got a table in hand and is staring down the Horsemen, especially Windham, as he looks like he wants to put Barry Windham through it with a piledriver. Harley Race really needs to watch his back now after Flair just placed the $10,000 bounty on his head.
Gordon Solie: As we have come to see from Harley Race lately, he has no fear when it comes to attacking even when he is outnumbered as Harley Race is attacking without a partner here as he attacks Ric Flair and now wants to turn his attention to Barry Windham in his quest to eliminate the Horsemen one by one.
Ken Resnick: Race throws Flair over the top rope onto the floor and now Race has just dropped Barry Windham with a big DDT right in the middle of the ring. And would you look at Bobby Heenan as he is running off in the corner scared like a little weasel would!
Gordon Solie: Bobby Heenan is trying to attend to the needs of Ric Flair as he is down on the floor of the Portland Sports Arena but Harley Race is setting up the table by the apron of the ring perhaps for another piledriver. Barry Windham has been rendered unconscious with that DDT and Race may be able to do whatever he wants to Windham right now.
Ken Resnick: Harley Race has Barry Windham up on top of the apron and it looks like he's got a piledriver lined up for through the table!
Gordon Solie: Bobby Heenan can only look on helplessly as he sees Barry Windham getting driven through the table with the piledriver by Harley Race as yet another member of the Four Horsemen looks like he's going to be hitting the injured reserve list as Barry Windham's got to have some neck and back injuries after that thundering crash through the wooden table!
Ken Resnick: Ric Flair is beside himself as Harley Race is in the ring with both the AWA and NWA titles over his shoulder as well as the metal briefcase with the $10,000 bounty that's been placed on his head! Meanwhile, Barry Windham is totally out of it as Heenan realizes it’s down to only himself to help Flair keep the world titles. Remember, in just two weeks we will be in Chicago, Illinois at the Rosemont Horizon when AWA presents its next pay per view spectacular, AWA When Worlds Collide as both championships will be on the line when Ric Flair defends against Harley Race for both the AWA and NWA World title. But next week make sure to join us again as we will see you next week on AWA All-Star Wrestling! Good night everybody!
