Ken Resnick: Hello everyone and welcome to AWA All-Star Wrestling as we are here in the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston for another great edition of the AWA. We have a couple of great matches lined up for you today so let's get right into the action!
?237Gordon Solie: And before the action gets underway, it looks as if Jake Roberts has a few words to say.
Jake Roberts: Dusty Rhodes, I am your nightmare. Dusty Rhodes, the American Dream is dying and in its place there will be the American Nightmare. You don't even know what this man standing next to me has in mind for you. He’s ready to tear you apart limb from limb. The One Man Gang has joined me here in the ring today and we will destroy you Dusty. We won’t only destroy you physically, but we are going to destroy you mentally as well. I'm destroying you from the inside out. The sheep represents a follower. The sheep never leads, he always follows. When this mask is placed on the head of someone they become mine, they become my follower. Dusty, you are about to become my sheep.
Ken Resnick: And here comes Dusty Rhodes alongside Dick Murdoch and you can tell that Dusty is fired up tonight over these comments!
Dusty Rhodes: Jake Roberts! I don't know what you're talking about but I've got my best friend in the whole wide world with me here, Dickie Murdoch! I know me and I know Dick, we're not going to fall for your tricks and your witches spells, we are not going to fall for any of this! We are a team united, we have known each other for many years and are the best of friends and in the end I will defeat you and of your “followers”.
Jake Roberts: Murdoch. Murdoch. Murdoch. Murdoch.
Gordon Solie: Wait a minute here, what are they doing to Dick Murdoch? It looks as though Dick Murdoch may be falling under the spell of Jake Roberts here as he has that each sheep mask over top of that mystical club that he carries around and it looks to be that this spell might be working and may be turning Dick Murdoch into one of Jake Roberts followers!
Ken Resnick: Oh here we go, it looks like the spell has worked here as Dick Murdoch has put that sheep mask on and is looking at Dusty. He looks like he wants to fight Dusty, I thought he had said that they were best friends!
Gordon Solie: Oh what a brutal attack! Jake Roberts has ordered that Dick Murdoch attack Dusty and he has the microphone and he is gouging in the eye of the American Dream!
Ken Resnick: Can you believe this?! Dick Murdoch has turned his back on his best friend Dusty Rhodes and is brutally attacking him! Jake Roberts must have more power in that club than we ever imagined.
Jake Roberts: This is only the beginning Rhodes. This is only the beginning. I have your precious cowboy hat now and at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania if you want the hat back you're going to have to fight me for it. I have all the cards in the deck. You're playing against the house and the house wins. When you play against me, I always win, I always have twenty-one in my hand.
Ken Resnick: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and next up we have a match for a shot at the AWA Tag Team Championship coming up next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania as last week at AWA Clash of the champions, we saw the split of Hot Stuff International duo of Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude as they took the tag team titles from Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin. The Garvins will have a shot to regain those titles next week after the controversial loss as they will be taking on the team of “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers for shot at the title coming up at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania.
Ken Resnick: Weighing in tonight at the weight of 271 pounds…..
Buddy Rose: Hey, hey, hey, hold on a minute Resnick! That note card you have is wrong, wrong, wrong! It’s 217 pounds! Get it right! Weighing in at the weight of 217 pounds, it’s the “Playboy” Buddy Rose along with his partner, “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers along with their beautiful valet “Sensational” Sherri Martel!
Gordon Solie: Before this match starts, Eddie Gilbert and Precious are at ringside. Remember that Precious did choose Eddie Gilbert over Rick Rude last week as Jimmy Garvin is still trying to find answers as to why Precious broke up with him all those months ago.
Ken Resnick: As this match is getting underway, Eddie Gilbert will be joining us here at ringside for announcing duties. Eddie, how are you today?
Eddie Gilbert: Look at Jimmy Garvin. Jimmy Garvin is just so upset that a beautiful woman like my Precious chooses a guy like me over a bum like himself. I’ll give Jimmy credit for one thing, he’s got a heck of a tag team partner in his cousin Ronnie. Te man has a heck of a punch that could knock a lion off his feet. But they are never going to be able to beat me for the AWA Tag Team titles. That’s right, me and me alone, I am the AWA World Tag Team Champions. I don't understand what they're even thinking getting into this contest. We beat them once, they know we’ll just do it again.
Gordon Solie: There is a big huge dropkick from Ronnie Garvin as he has Buddy Rose stumbling after that one.
Eddie Gilbert: I'll tell you what Gordon, those two Garvins are going be tumbling when they have go against me and they don't win the AWA World Tag Team title shot against the only and only true tag team champion. I'm THE champion not Rude, I won those all my myself, I am the champion, get it right!
Ken Resnick: Eddie Gilbert , what are you doing?
Gordon Solie: I don’t think Jimmy realizes it since his attention is being diverted by Gibert but Ronnie Garvin is getting beat up bad as look over in the corner as Rose and Somers have the tag rope wrapped around Ronnie Garvin's neck. They are going to town on him as they are double teaming him and Jimmy Garvin is nowhere to be found in trying to help his partner.
Jimmy Garvin: Gilbert, Gilbert over here she's mine! She's not yours!
Eddie Gilbert: Get out of here Jimmy, she’s mine, she chose me! Not Rude, not you, me!
Gordon Solie: Meanwhile in the ring Doug Somers with a punishing back breaker on Ronnie Garvin. Ronnie Garvin is in serious trouble and Jimmy Garvin's attention is solely on Eddie Gilbert and not getting the world tag team title match next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania.
Gordon Solie: Eddie Gilbert and Jimmy Garvin are facing off on our interview stage but meanwhile in the ring there is Rose and Somers with their finishing maneuver the “Ugly Face Killer” on Ronnie Garvin. That'll probably finish this match off.
Ken Resnick: As Jimmy Garvin's full attention has been diverted, he has now thrown Eddie Gilbert off of the announcing stage and on to the cold, hard, concrete floor. Meanwhile, Doug Somers just for peace of mind is making sure Jimmy Garvin won't interfere with the count as Buddy Rose scores the three count. Jimmy Garvin doesn't even know that his partner was being pinned and they will not get the tag team title shot next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania and instead it will be Rose and Somers facing off with Eddie Gilbert and perhaps Rick Rude.
Gordon Solie: Finally it appears that Jimmy Garvin has come to his senses and is helping his cousin, Ronnie Garvin up off the mat meanwhile like a snake in the grass, Eddie Gilbert is sneaking up behind Jimmy Garvin!
Ken Resnick: A sneak attack here as Eddie Gilbert has delievered his devastating “Hotshot” on Jimmy Garvin as he has just been laid out in the middle of the ring!
Gordon Solie: Oh c’mon now, adding insult to injury, Eddie Gilbert is now holding Jimmy Garvin while Precious lays a big wet kiss on Jimmy Garvin.
Ken Resnick: Jimmy Garvin has already been in a fragile mental state over this whole love life situation and this could push him over the edge even more!
Eddie Gilbert: Rick Rude, these are my titles! They are not “our” titles. They are my titles and my titles alone. I won them Idecide who keeps them and that person is me. Next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania I will be defending and keeping the AWA World Tag Team titles for me not anybody else. I wear the gold and I have the golden girl, Precious, by my side! It’s time to eat your heart out Rick Rude. I got the gold and the girl!
Bill Watts: Last week at AWA Clash of the Champions, the Fabulous Freebirds sneak attacked myself and Jim Duggan. But to make matters even worse, they brought Buddy Roberts into the fold. I should've known, darn it, I should've known that you were going to get Buddy Roberts to come and join you by your side. Michael Hayes I want my hands on all three of you. If you think I have forgotten what you did to the Junkyard Dog then you are very much mistaken. The man still cannot see out of one eye. He’s had multiple surgeries from the acid burns to his eyes. I can't believe what you did to the Junkyard Dog. The man has a family, a family that he may never see again. Next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania I want a match, I don’t care what type of match it is. Anything, I just want to get face to face with you in the ring Freebirds and lay down a little southern justice!
Michael Hayes: Watts, I thought we took care of this last week when we shamed you and had you pinned down and told the world that the Freebirds were number one. So you want a match next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania once and for all? I want to put this to rest, you bring your team, I'll bring Gordy and Roberts and will take a walk down Badstreet. Yes, that’s right, a Badstreet Rules match, come as you street fight. This is it, the end of the beginning. You're going down a dark and shady street where no one ever returns quite the same. You’re about to take a walk down Badstreet.
Gordon Solie: Moving onto tag team action here as we have two members of the Four Horsemen in Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard taking on Harley Race and Nick Bockwinkel. Remember Race says that he has a piledriver bounty out on the head of every single member Four Horsemen. He says he’s going to piledrive their heads into every single table that he can find. After that grueling title clash between Stan Hanson and Ric Flair last week, Race took out member Ric Flair by piledriving him on the table after that world title match. It was also Race that created the double pin situation at Clash of the Champions where the AWA/NWA Unified Championship was not able to be decided because both Flair and Hanson’s shoulders were on the mat.
Ken Resnick: The match starts out here as we see the technical prowess is already on display here as Anderson locks up Bockwinkel with the arm lock. Bockwinkel is going to need to escape this very painful hold quickly before more damage is done.
Gordon Solie: A rear chin lock now by Arn Anderson as he is really working over Nick Bockwinkel as in customary Arnderson tag team fashion he has cut off the ring from Bockwinkel being able to make the tag. Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard definitely are two of the best tag team wrestlers in professional wrestling today and are displaying it right here.
Ken Resnick: A double team move here as Arn Anderson tags and Tully Blanchard puts Bockwinkel down as Blanchard connects with a huge elbow. Nick Bockwinkel will defintely have to turn this one around or the Horseman could be scoring the pinfall victory here in short order.
Gordon Solie: Blanchard now openly letting Nick Bockwinkel go ahead to the corner and make a tag to Harley Race. You know the Four Horsemen have probably been given specific orders from Ric Flair to take out Harley Race at all costs so that he stops his reign of terror that he's got going over the Four Horsemen.
Ken Resnick: Maybe Tully Blanchard bit off a little bit more than he can chew here as Harley Race comes in and he is really going to town with fists like crazy on Tully Blanchard!
Gordon Solie: Arn Anderson joins the fray and Harley Race send him over the top rope with a huge clothesline! On the outside of the ring now, things could definitely get interesting!
Ken Resnick: Harley Race has put Arn Anderson up on top of our stage here as Nick Bockwinkel goes to town working over Tully Blanchard. I think Harley Race is going to try the piledriver here on Arn Anderson off the announcing stage!
Gordon Solie: Harley Race piledrives Anderson off the stage and onto the hard concrete floor here at the Sam Houston Coliseum! This is unbelievable! He is trying to take out every member of the Four Horsemen with pliedriver after piledriver all over the arena.
Ken Resnick: Referee Marty Miller has called for a no contest here as Tully Blanchard is checking over the condition of his partner. Arn Anderson may have serious neck and back injuries meanwhile Harley Race is proud of himself as he is trying to eliminate each and every member of the Horseman with that piledriver until he can finally get his revenge on Ric Flair for booting him from the Four Horsemen and gaining the ultimate revenge in and taking the world title from Flair.
Andy Kaufman: Hi everybody, it’s me, it’s Andy! Yes that Andy Kaufman, the Hollywood star again! I am here with another edition of the suspense filled and drama packed….drum roll please… Andy Kaufman’s Intergalactic Challenge! I bet you can't win the AWA US title from me today whoever you are, so who will be the one that will get the honor and privlage of getting to challenge me and who will be the one that will be defeated today?!
Andy Kaufman: Wait, what was that Mr. Resnick?
Ken Resnick: I'm sorry Andy but nobody is coming out to accept your challenge today. They think this thing is one big joke.
Andy Kaufman: I knew it! Everybody's afraid of me, nobody wants to face the Intergalactic Challenge!
Andy Kaufman: Gino can you do me a favor? Please go to the locker room and find me a challenger. Anybody. Somebody. This contract says that I need to defend the title now so go find me somebody!
Gino Hernandez: Sure thing Mr. Kaufman.
Gordon Solie: Gino Hernandez is now exiting towards the locker room area and I don't know who he is going to find back there. This is a strange situation to be finding a title contender on the fly like this. Knowing Kaufman and his crew, I can only imagine what sort of “challenger” they are going to find for the AWA US Title.
Ken Resnick: Now hold on a second that's Kenny from the ring crew. He’s a hard working member of the AWA who puts the ring up and tears it down every night. Why is Gino Hernandez talking to Kenny? Is he going to get Kenny to face Andy Kaufman?
Gordon Solie: Ah c’mon now, he's got Kenny in a headlock and he is dragging Kenny towards the ringside area. Don't tell me this is who is going to be Andy Kaufman’s challenger tonight!
Ken Resnick: Wow it looks like this is going to be the match as getting in the ring is Kenny the ring crew guy. I don't even think he knows how to wrestle at all, he is kind of looking around strangely as referee Marty Miller's asking for the bell.
Gordon Solie: This guy prroably doesn't even know what a wrist lock is let alone get inside the wrestling ring, even if it is with Andy Kaufman. Andy Kaufman is attacking the eyes of Kenny the ring crew guy right now, all this is just despicable that Kaufman is up to making a mockery of the AWA US Title yet again this week.
Ken Resnick: Kenny is now trying to step through the ropes maybe to get himself counted out in this match but look at Kaufman as he kicks the middle rope and it hit Kenny right in the groin! This is just an absolute travesty we are seeing yet again this week. When will AWA President Stanley Blackburn step in and put an end to all of this?!
Gordon Solie: Well here's Andy taking Kenny the ring crew guy with a camel clutch and it looks like….yes that is going to be all as referee Marty Miller is asking for the bell as Kenny the ring crew guy has indeed submitted to Andy Kaufman's camel clutch.
Ken Resnick: Look at how proud Andy Kaufman is that he is again the AWA United States Champion with him and is mockery of a “Andy Kaufman’s Intergalactic Challenge”.
Gordon Solie: Wait a minute here as is looks as though AWA President Stanley Blackburn is on his way to the ring! He said he was going to name a challenger for Andy Kaufman at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania tonight!
Stanley Blackburn: Andy Kaufman you've made a complete mockery of the AWA United States Championship over the past few weeks with low-level competition or literally no competition at all. That’s why I have decided to choose your challenger for AWA/WWF Wrestlemania next week. Not you! And next week you are going to defend the AWA United States Championship against…Bruiser Brody!
Gordon Solie: Oh my word, Andy Kaufman has dropped the AWA United States Championship belt and is running for the hills! He doesn’t want to have to face Brody! Next week with Andy Kaufman scared out of his wits he will have to face Bruiser Brody for the AWA United States Championship at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania!
Stan Hanson: As you all know last week at AWA Clash of the Champions, I walked out the true AWA/NWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion. I even have the NWA championship title belt to prove it. I have the AWA championship belt to prove it here was well. I should have the other big golden belt right now to solidify my status but now Ric Flair you had to cheat and get Tully Blanchard to come down and do your dirty work and save you the embarrassment of a loss. I am the true, one and only world champion, I want all three of my belts and I want them now!
Ken Resnick: Well here comes Ric Flair to the ring as he has a neck brace on as remember at the end of AWA Clash of the Champions that he was piledriven on top of the table by Harley Race in Race’s attempt to piledrive all the members of the Four Horsemen right out of professional wrestling.
Ric Flair: Stan Hanson, you know I am the true one and only world heavyweight champion, not you. You don't have the pedigree to hold the championship. You might have possession of the belt, but if it wasn't for Harley Race sticking his nose where he shouldn’t have then I would have my NWA World title belt in my possession. So give me both of my titles right now, so that once and for all I can show the world that I am the true one and only world heavyweight champion that there is in professional wrestling today!
Ken Resnick: Wait a minute here, this is Vince McMahon the promoter of the World Wrestling Federation who will be co-promoting AWA/WWF Wrestlemania next week. He's come down to the ring and who knows what he has to say.
Vince McMahon: You know what Stan Hanson and Ric Flair, all I hear out of you two is words over who the real world champion is, but little action. You both argue that you're the true world heavyweight champion but you know there is another major promotion besides AWA and NWA here in the world professional wrestling. If you want to decide who the real world champion is you have to include this man in your plans, because he represents the WWF.
Ken Resnick: And here comes the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion “Immortal” Hulk Hogan! This is unbelievable! The Houston crowd here in the Sam Houston Coliseum is about to go nuts! The three world heavyweight champions here in professional wrestling all in the same ring at the same time!
Vince McMahon: AWA/WWF Wrestlemania technically is my show and I do have the ability to influence plans. So in that case I have decided that at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania there will be a three-way match with Hulk Hogan defending his WWF championship against both the NWA Champ, Ric Flair and the AWA Champ, Stan Hanson!
Ken Resnick: NWA President Bob Geigel has now entered the ring.
Bob Geigel: If this match is to go down, I am demanding that Stan Hanson give the NWA title belt back to Ric Flair. Hanson isn't the true champion and the real NWA champion must be showcased in such a momumental match.
Ken Resnick: Stanley Blackburn of the AWA has now entered the ring and he is speaking between the leaders of these other three great wrestling organizations. It looks like they may be hatching a plan. They have now exited the ring and after this commercial break, they have said they will issue a statement from the board room. We’ll be right back after these messages.
Stanley Blackburn: Alright folks here is the decision that we have made at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania all three of the world championships will be on the line. Whoever scores the winning pinfall or submission will win the title of the man that he pins or submits. So only one of these titles will change hands in this high stakes match up and one man will walk out a double champion! We will see you next week at AWA/WWF Wrestlemania!
Gordon Solie: Join us next week for the big and exciting AWA/WWF Wrestlemania card live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. On that card we will see The Fabulous Freebirds taking on Bill Watts and a partner of his choosing in a Badstreet Rules match. Andy Kaufman defends the AWA United States Championship against the challenge of Bruiser Brody. The teams with a giant rift of Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude, the AWA Tag Champs, defend those belts against Buddy Rose and Doug Somers. “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes takes on Jake “the Snake” Roberts in a match where Dusty will try to win back his cherished white cowboy hat. And finally the biggest match perhaps in the history of professional wrestling as AWA Champion Stan Hanson faces NWA Champion Ric Flair and WWF Champion Hulk Hogan where all three titles will be at stake and one man will walk out a double champion!
