Gordon Solie: Welcome everyone to another action packed hour of AWA All-Star Wrestling as we are here at the WTBS Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. We have AWA President, Stanley Blackburn in the ring and he's about to have a talk with the promoter of the UWF, Bill Watts. After what we saw last week at the AWA Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team Tournament between the Junkyard Dog and Michael Hayes, this is a situation that most definitely needs addressed.
Bill Watts: I can't believe that the Freebirds did that last week. They took that Freebird Hair Cream and they put it right in the eyes of my partner and one of my best friends in this entire world, the one and only Junkyard Dog. All three of those guys need to pay. They need to pay dearly and I will get my revenge! You know that that is one thing that I will never do. I never let something go unpunished. I keep going until I finally get my revenge.
Bill Watts: Michael Hayes, Junkyard Dog has been brave enough to come out here today to show you what you did. The man has seen the world class leaders in eye care and they have told me that this man may never see again. His retinas were so severely burned that he will probably never get his 20/20 eyesight back ever again. I want you to take a long hard look at this man's face. He needs to wear a sanitary cloth over his head because of the acid burns to his skin that the Freebird Hair Cream did to him. Just remember that when I get my revenge, and you can be rest assured that the revenge will be paid in full, I’ll have your face looking hundreds times worse than what poor JYD looks like today.
Ken Resnick: We are now back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling and now look who's in the ring…
Andy Kaufman: Hi everybody! It's me… Andy…Andy Kaufman! You know, the biggest star in the entire intergalactic universe! I'm here with the “Superstar” and the “Gorgeous” one and this week we continue along as I defend my AWA United States Championship in the…cue the music please… Andy Kaufman’s Intergalactic Challenge! From far and wide challengers are trying to sign their name to face me, let's see who this week's big, tall and muscular challenger is going to be!
Ken Resnick: Can you believe this? Andy Kaufman has gone out and got himself a midget wrestler to fight him for the AWA United States Championship. I really wish that they would screen his challengers a little bit better, this is just absolutely ridiculous.
Gordon Solie: I have gotten the particulars on this individual, weighing in at 98 pounds from the big top on the midway, it’s Doink the Clown.
Gordon Solie: I think this might actually be one of the few times that Andy Kaufman actually has the size and weight advantage over competitor. Look as Kaufman is using his palm to hold back Doink by his green hair. This is unbelievable and a travesty to the AWA United States Championship legacy.
Ken Resnick: Andy Kaufman is showing us…I guess you could call it, his strength advantage right here and he is picking up poor little Doink up by his back and he's got him held in his arms kind of like a baby being held by his father. Gordon this is just absolutely ridiculous.
Gordon Solie: Well Andy Kaufman isn't taking care of this Doink the Clown very well as he just dropped him right on his head the mat! The poor clown landed right on top of his green wig and went bouncing straight up in the air kind of like a rubber ball. This is just absolutely ridiculous that Andy Kaufman is making such a mockery of the AWA United States Championship like this.
Ken Resnick: Thankfully, I guess that'll be it as referee Scrappy McGowan is down for the count as Andy Kaufman flexing his muscles gets the three count on Doink the Clown.
Gordon Solie: Can you believe this? Andy Kaufman is just making a complete mockery here of all the top talent that we have here in AWA. I am really hoping that the AWA Board of Directors takes note of this and steps up and gives him some more legitimate title contenders.
Ken Resnick: Wow, there is Andy Kaufman with his Cabaret Hollywood Stars as he will keep the AWA United States Championship at least for tonight and we just hope that in the coming weeks some sort of good challenger shows up and takes the title away from Kaufman. We will be right back after these messages in just a moment.
Gordon Solie: Next up we have a number one contenders match for the AWA World Tag Team Championship as the brother team of David Von Erich and Kerry Von Erich will be taking on the team of Rick Rude and Eddie Gilbert. I am not sure we can call them Hot Stuff International as a collective unit after all the problems these two have had over the past few weeks. The winners will face Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin next week at AWA Clash of the Champions live from the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama.
Ken Resnick: And before we even get in the ring, the problems between these two seem to be continuing. We saw the strife last week at the AWA Hercules Cortez Memorial Tag Team Tournament as these two could not get along and ended up basically eliminating themselves from the tournament after their infighting erupted over who has the infatuation of Precious. But unfortunately for Gilbert and Rude, a contract was signed many weeks ago before the tensions rose here in the ranks Hot Stuff International and now they must team together with a shot at the tag team titles on the line. Will they still be able to coexist as a team with a title shot on the line? Also remember, next week Precious must pick who she will be with once and for all. Will it be Eddie or Rick? We’ll have to wait until Clash of the Champions to find out.
Gordon Solie: Eddie Gilbert looks like he's refusing to get into the ring here to start this match as Rick Rude looks like he’s going to have to fight this match on his own it appears. David Von Erich and Kerry Von Erich are also somewhat confused as to what is going on here. It is a very interesting situation here amongst the ranks of Hot Stuff International. There seems to be more questions than answers when it comes to these two.
Ken Resnick: The match has started as referee Jerry Calhoun has asked for the bell and we see Rick Rude all alone in the ring as he is already caught in the bear hug of Kerry Von Erich. Meanwhile, Eddie Gilbert is on the outside looking in and is not standing in his team corner holding on to the tag rope.
Gordon Solie: Remember that the Von Erichs have not scored any victories during their time here in the AWA and for months have been on the border of being possibly cut from the roster. They know that having been given this golden opportunity for the tag titles that they need to try and score this all important pinfall for a match next week at AWA Clash of the Champions
Ken Resnick: They are definitely taking advantage of the strife between Rude and Gilbert as Kerry holds Rude back as David delivers the big blow to the top of the head of Rude.
Ken Resnick: Rude looks like he is trying to crawl underneath the ring as he's trying to get Gilbert's attention but Gilbert just seems to have want to nothing to do here with Rick Rude. After the incident that we saw last week in the big tag team title tournament where things got physical, I am not sure I can blame him for not thinking that Rude doesn’t have his back.
Gordon Solie: David is looking on here as he is not really not sure what to think of this but you know he's got to be sensing a victory and a possible tag team title shot for him and his brother Kerry coming up next week.
Gordon Solie: David now with a Full Nelson on Rick Rude as he definitely is in trouble here as the Von Erichs might be on their way to that pivotal first win and possibly a tag team title shot at AWA Clash of the Champions.
Ken Resnick: Rude is somehow able to escape and is now retreating to the outside as you can now see him sitting there in pain trying to argue with Eddie Gilbert. The strife between these two has reached a boiling point. What is going happen here?
Gordon Solie: Wait a minute, Eddie Gilbert just nailed David Von Erich with a bucket when Rude was trying to crawl back in the ring as he has the attention of Jerry Calhoun who is over putting the count to Rude. What is Gilbert doing here? I thought he didn't want to win so he could finally ride himself of Rick Rude, but apparently the lure of championship gold is too bright in the eyes of Eddie Gilbert right now.
Ken Resnick: Gilbert is staring down Rude as David Von Erich has been completely knocked unconscious in the ring.
Gordon Solie: Look at that stare down here. This is very intense between these two men. And to think this is all over the love and affection of a woman.
ken Resnick: Eddie Gilbert just cold cocked Rick Rude with a huge uppercut! He nailed him right under the chin and that looks like Rude may be the unconscious one here as well. Was Eddie Gilbert looking for a double knockout so that neither he nor the Von Erichs got the tag title shot?
Gordon Solie: Wait a minute, I am not sure Eddie Gilbert knows what he’s done as he’s gabbing away at Kerry Von Erich. Rude has fallen backwards on top of David Von Erich who is down for the three count and we have our winners as it's Rick Rude and I guess even though he didn't participate in this match it's Eddie Gilbert as the other victor!
Ken Resnick: Referee Jerry Calhoun is raising Rude’s arm in victory as Eddie Gilbert is walking back to the curtain and I am not quite sure he knows what has gone down here. Nonetheless, it looks like next week at AWA Clash of the Champions it will be Eddie Gilbert and Rick Rude taking on Jimmy and Ronnie Garvin for the AWA World Tag Team Championships. And to say that there is no love lost between Gilbert and Jimmy Garvin is definitely an understatement. We’ll be right back with a special interview with Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Jake Roberts: Dusty Rhodes this is your worst nightmare. Dusty, I put a spell on you. A spell on all your friends. A spell in which you may never ever be able to get out of Dusty Rhodes. I am the master of your fate. The American Dream is about to die and be replaced by a dream which in turn will become your worst nightmare.
Gordon Solie: Here comes Dusty Rhodes out of nowhere as he is attacking Jake Roberts in the locker room! Jake Roberts doesn't have either King Kong Bundy or the One Man Gang by his side so I think Dusty will be able to find the advantage in this fight. He has driven one of those big benches up against the chest of Jake Roberts! That’ll surly leave a mark!
Ken Resnick: Dusty is gaining the revenge that he's been looking for here as he's taking a ladder and is smashing it in the face of Jake Roberts!
Gordon Solie: Dusty Rhodes seems to finally have been able to get his hands on Jake Roberts and in a one-on-one situation, albeit not in the ring but in the locker room.
Ken Resnick: That one-on-one situation is no more now as here comes the One Man Gang. This could get bad if this ends up being a two on one situation if Jake Roberts is able to come to his senses.
Gordon Solie: Jake Roberts has now pulled out that mystical club of his and is yet again seeming to be putting a spell over Dusty Rhodes. We've seen him pull out that mystical club before and put spells on people, so who knows what he is saying or what he's doing when that mystical club is in his hands.
Ken Resnick: These two seem quite proud of each other as Jake Roberts is leaving and he is put that mysterious sheep mask over the face of Dusty Rhodes, apparently symbolizing that Dusty is now part of Jake’s “flock of sheep”. What a strange situation we have we will be right back after these messages with the contract signing for next week's big AWA World Heavyweight title match at Clash of the Champions.
Gordon Solie: We are back here on AWA All-Star Wrestling as we have the contract signing for the world title next week at AWA Clash of the Champions, live and free on your local TV system which will be taking place at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama as we will be co-promoting the show with Southeastern Championship Wrestling. This contract signing will also double as the debut of a new segment here in the AWA as the “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper has signed with the AWA and he will be hosting his own interview segment entitled, Piper's Pit. This segment that will be airing every couple weeks as the Hot Rod himself will be interviewing many of the personalities from around the AWA.
Gordon Solie: And here he comes the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair who is joined by his Four Horsemen running mate, the “Enforcer” Arn Anderson.
Ken Resnick: And coming in from the other side we have the AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Stan “The Lariat” Hanson with his good running mate, the ever unpredictable, Terry Funk. As you can see in the middle of the table we also have what will be the AWA/NWA Unified Championship belt which the winner will get if they are able to defeat the other in this historical match.
Roddy Piper: And now to make the match official for AWA Clash of the Champions next week, here we go the contract being signed here by Stan and Ric. Finally after weeks of fighting these two men are going to lock horns one on one with both of the AWA and NWA titles on the line next week at Clash of the Champions! The papers have been signed and the match is now official! This is a match that people will be talking about for years to come!
Roddy Piper: Hey come on now!
Gordon Solie: As Hanson and Funk were leaving they had their backs turned to Ric Flair and he just hit Terry Funk straight in the forehead with a steel chair! Flair, who seen most of his some of his Four Horsemen teammates being taken out over the past couple weeks by Harley Race must have figured with little to no backup heading into Clash of the Champions that he was going to need to even up the odds a little bit and take Terry Funk out of action!
Ken Resnick: Stan Hanson will be with no backup going into AWA Clash of the Champions next week. The title may be slipping away from his grasp. What a desperate and underhanded move that Flair just pulled to get one over on Hanson!
Gordon Solie: What a chaotic scene we have here on Piper’s Pit leading into the match next week as Stan Hanson stands over his friend Terry Funk who has been knocked unconscious. Roddy Piper is holding back Ric Flair from injuring Terry Funk any further. Funk looks to be in real bad shape here. This is such a crazy situation which we hope will all get resolved next week at AWA Clash of the Champions!
Ken Resnick: That does it this week for AWA All-Star Wrestling. Join us next week as we will see on free television the special AWA Clash the Champions card being held in conjunction with Southeastern Championship Wrestling emanating from the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama. Good night everybody!
