Tony Schiavone: Hello everyone, and welcome back to NWA World Wide Wrestling, here on TBS, the SuperStation. Over the past few months a man has been coming up through the ranks of the NWA and is now in line for title contention against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Harley Race! Unfortunately, Harley Race is back in his home town of St. Louis to defend the title for Sam Muchnick at the Kiel Auditorium tonight, but we hope to have a few words with Harley later in the show.
Tony Schiavone: And here is the man who wants to challenge Harley Race for the NWA World Title, Ric Flair!
Ric Flair: Wooo! Tony Schiavone! I am here. Live and in living technocolor. The man with the robes worth thousands, the man with jewelry worth thousands, and soon, a world championship belt worth thousands! Harley Race, we’ve known each other for a long time. We’ve run the road together many times and in the same respect we’ve looked each other eye to eye across the ring. But never have we met for that NWA World Title, but soon….hahaha….very soon Harley.
Tony Schiavone: Well Ric, before you get too far ahead of yourself here, we’ve got a match scheduled for you here on World Wide Wrestling today, as Jim Duggan is in from the Mid-South territory and as always is looking for a fight!
Tony Schiavone: I am joined here at ringside by the one and only Gordon Solie for this pivotal match in Ric Flair’s quest for the NWA title.
Gordon Solie: Ric Flair has been primed for ready for about 6 months now, I for one cannot wait to see Flair and Harley Race collide for the title. According to a paper I have just received, we will be learning which arena has been chosen for this bug showdown between Race and Flair for the title.
Tony Schiavone: And only as Ric Flair can be, there he goes starting out the match with his famous strut.
Tony Schiavone: Ahhh haaa, and there’s Jim Duggan showing that where respect is shown, respect is given. No respect from Flair means that Duggan will show no respect either as one of those big right hands from Duggan connects with the cranium of Flair.
Tony Schiavone: And Flair already on early in this match is already begging for mercy. Duggan has Flair backed up against the wall already. Maybe Flair’s road to the title is about to get driven straight off the cliff right now with Jim Duggan at the wheel!
Gordon Solie: I’ve known Ric Flair for a long time and in all that time, I’ve always known him to take a shortcut or town in his matches and this match is no exception. A few fingers to the eyes and Duggan is sent reeling himself.
Tony Schiavone: Folks, don’t go away, we’ll be right back after these messages from our sponsors!
Tony Schiavone: Back here on NWA World Wide Wrestling here on the SuperStation, WTBS. We are locked in quite a struggle here between Ric Flair and Jim Duggan as we rejoin the action, we have Ric Flair with a side headlock on Jim Duggan.
Gordon Solie: A reversal of the headlock sends Flair bounding into the ropes with an Irish Whip.
Tony Schiavone: And a BIG back body drop by Jim Duggan. The tide is turning in this match it seems with just about every move. The live studio audience has been on the edge of their seats since the opening bell in this one.
Gordon Solie: And that live studio audience you just spoke of just got up close and personal look of Ric Flair. Mr. Duggan really has Flair reeling at this point as he’s feeding off the energy of the fans here in the WTBS Studios.
Tony Schiavone: And Ric Flair won’t be coming back in the easy way, he’s going to be coming in the hard way. A high suplex from Duggan and Flair is sent sprawling across the mat.
Gordon Solie: And here it is, Jim Duggan’s is trying to finish off Flair with his hard hitting three point stance football tackle….
Tony Schiavone: But Flair steps out of the way of the football tackle and drives Duggan’s head hard into the buckle.
Gordon Solie: And that looks like the opening that Flair has been opening for. He’s softening up Duggan’s leg for the Figure Four leg lock.
Tony Schiavone: We’ve seen this many times before. This may be it for Duggan.
Gordon Solie: And that’ll be it for Mr. Duggan as the referee calls for the bell. Your winner here on World Wide Wrestling is the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair via the Figure Four. Looks like Flair has grabbed the microphone, let’s listen in.
Ric Flair: Harley Race! I know you’re not here in the WTBS Studios today. But I know that when this message finally reaches you, you’ll hear it loud and clear. Race. I am ready. I have proved that. You know I am the man. You know I am the man that’s going to take that ten pounds of gold from around your waist. Harley, I finally got the details. The NWA Board of Directors have finally made their decision. It’ll be me and you in the Omni in Atlanta next week. No time limit, no stopping this match, there must be a winner. And wooo…you know I’ll be walking out of there with that beautiful NWA World Title belt.
Gordon Solie: Let’s go to Kansas City via satellite so we can get a few remarks from the champion regarding this huge bout signed for Atlanta next week.
Harley Race: Ric Flair, I am sure that by now you’ve heard the news, it’s me and you in the Omni next week. Flair, I am not like you, I am not one to talk. I do my talking in the ring. But you’ve gotten me to a point where you’ve got my blood boiling. And that is about to boil over next week. Just wait until next week. One I lock you in that piledriver and drop you on top of your head, I’ll be done with you forever and I will continue on as NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
