Ken Resnick: Welcome to this week’s action packed edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling. And for some reason to start the show, we have Ric Flair in the ring. Let’s listen in to see what he has to say.
Ric Flair: I told you all this day was coming. You just didn’t think it was coming this soon. The day of change was coming. If you will recall just a few short months ago, I was blatantly cheated out of the AWA World Heavyweight Championship. And I told myself the day that that happened, I would gain my retribution. I would win that championship belt and put it around my waist. But as I experienced first hand in that match, it appears that in order to succeed here in the AWA you need to have some friends by your side. And that’s why I decided to disappear there over the past few weeks. I traveled in planes, trains and automobiles and scouted out the very best talent this country has to offer in the world of professional wrestling. I not only looked for their in ring talents but they’re cunning and knowledge outside the ring as well. This has increasingly become a political game here in the AWA. A little bit of strength in numbers….and sneakiness. So I introduce to you, for the first time ever in the AWA, the Four Horsemen!
Ric Flair: Well if you haven’t guessed yet, I can name myself the first member of the Four Horsemen. My first selection is actually a good friend of mine. A man I have always known to have my back. He doesn’t do the talking on the microphone. He does his talking in the ring. By stretching men into submission. He’s my man of 100 holds. He is the “Enforcer of the Four Horsemen”, Arn Anderson!
Ric Flair: I see that the men holding possession of the AWA World Heavyweight Championship right now, both hail from the Lonestar State of Texas. So how do you beat a pair of Texans? You go out and get your own Texan. Let me introduce to you, the “Ace in the Hole of the Four Horsemen” , Barry Windham!
Ric Flair: So far I have two men standing by my side, but there’s one spot left. I spent a few restless nights trying to decide if I wanted to man with me. Could I trust him? We had spent many a nights opposite each other in the ring fighting through the blood and sweat. But after having a good talking with him one night, I am proud to introduce, the “Legend of the Four Horsemen”, Harley Race!
Ric Flair: We are about to embark on a quest like you have never ever seen before. The Four Horsemen are assembled here in the AWA and life around here will never be the same ever again. Diamonds are forever, and so are the Four Horsemen!
Ken Resnick: Wow, what a shocker! The new attitude Ric Flair has arrived on the scene and I’m not sure exactly what to think!
Verne Gagne: My broadcast colleague, Ken Resnick, is up in the ring with “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert.
Ken Resnick: Eddie, a big win last week at AWA Wrestlerock which means that Jimmy Garvin has left the AWA for the next thirty days and more importantly to you, you keep the contracts of both the Long Riders as well as your valet Precious. But the biggest question coming out of Wrestlerock was the surprise emergence of “Ravishing” Rick Rude joining Hot Stuff International.
Eddie Gilbert: Bye bye, Jimmy Garvin! See you real soon, or maybe never again! Once again Hot Stuff got the better of you and you’re left with no choice but to stick your tail between your legs and ride out of town on the horse you came in on. I told you I always have a plan. And when that plan may begin to fail, I always have a Plan B and a Plan C behind me. I have haunted you your entire career Garvin. I have taken everything that is most “precious” to you Jimmy, no pun intended. There’s nothing left. You have nothing left. You are basically out on the street while I look down at you begging from my high rise penthouse. Hot Stuff International just got a whole lot stronger with Rick Rude joining the most exciting and fast rising group in professional wrestling today. You want to know why he’s here? Because he wants to be with the best. Tell them Rick!
Rick Rude: Ken Resnick, eat your heart out. A skinny little guy like you only wishes he had a body as ravishing as mine. The ladies love me, the men hate me….and probably most of all Jimmy Garvin after Wrestlerock, but Rick Rude has joined Hot Stuff International for one reason and one reason only. And that is to win the titles…and win the girls. And I think I’m already doing a pretty god job of the latter.
Eddie Gilbert: We are unstoppable. We can’t be beat. Bring them all on. Hot Stuff International is here to stay!
Verne Gagne: Looks like Rick Rude may be trying to win a girl over that’s a little hard to get. He’s putting the moves on Precious, whose Eddie Gilbert’s girl!
Ken Resnick: Well Rick, you have some competition tonight in your debut match, as you’ll be taking on British star, Billy Robinson.
Rick Rude: Ha, this guy, easy. Get him in here so I can go out on the town just that much sooner after I’m done taking care of him.
Verne Gagne: The bell rings and we are under way. Rude has grabbed the early advantage with a knee to the head of Billy Robinson. Billy and I had quite the battles back in the day. He’s a world renowned catch wrestling star in Great Britain who’s actually spending his vacation time here in America to entertain the fans of the AWA here with a rare match in the States.
Ken Resnick: A tough task against Rick Rude however, who is no vacation when you step in the ting with him.
Ken Resnick: And would you look at the posing that Rick Rude is doing. This guy is something else. He kicks Billy Robinson in the gut, then stops to pause for a moment to pose down for everyone.
Verne Gagne: Definitely not the kind of thing you want to do against Billy Robinson. This guy will twist you into a pretzel if you get him all worked up like this.
Verne Gagne: And what is this? Rick Rude has stopped right in the middle of the match and diverted his attention to Precious who’s on the apron of the ring. She seems a bit smitten with Rude. She’s giggling and laughing as it appears that Rick Rude is putting the moves on her. He better be careful of both Billy Robinson in the ring and Eddie Gilbert on the outside of it!
Ken Resnick: The distraction was not enough for Billy Robinson to get back into this match as there’s Rick Rude hitting his patented finisher, the Rude Awakening.
Verne Gagne: I’m just interested to find out exactly what Precious and Rick Rude were saying to each other on the apron.
Ken Resnick: Referee Marty Miller is down for the three count and that’s it for a nice relaxing vacation for Billy Robinson as Rick Rude picks up the win after the Rude Awakening.
Verne Gagne: But as that goes on in the ring, it appears that Gilbert and Precious are having some words on the outside. My best guess would be over some possible romantic involvement with Rick Rude. This is an interesting situation that may be transpiring and we’ll definitely have to keep our eyes on it.
Verne Gagne: Oh give me a break. I can’t believe the nerve of this guy. Getting piggy back rides to the ring?
Ken Resnick: Last week we saw Andy Kaufman come out and reveal the first member of the Andy Kaufman’s Cabaret of Hollywood Stars with the debut of “Superstar” Billy Graham. There’s no telling who could be popping up next to join Kaufman and Graham and there troupe of stars.
Ken Resnick: Tonight, we have Billy Graham taking on Kevin Von Erich in a one on one contest. And joined with us on commentary is the one and the only, Andy Kaufman.
Andy Kaufman: That’s right the one and the only! I am from Hollywood. I am a star. Billy Graham is a star! And soon we will have gold amongst the Andy Kaufman Cabaret of Hollywood Stars!
Verne Gagne: Who are you again? Never heard of you.
Andy Kaufman: That’s because I’m not 80 years old like you Verne! I wasn’t even born yet when you were watching Charlie Chapman and silent movies!
Ken Resnick: And getting down to the business at hand we have Kevin Von Erich starting out this match with a beautiful flying head scissors. Both he and his brother Kerry are very hungry and eager for their first win here in the AWA. Without one, their spots will almost surely be taken by another up and coming hungry wrestler eager to prove his worth here in the big time of the AWA.
Andy Kaufman: Hey, that’s illegal! He’s choking him with his feet! Referee! Referee!
Verne Gagne: Who is this guy? He apparently knows nothing about the sport of professional wrestling.
Ken Resnick: And the power game of Billy Graham is becoming evident now in this match. Many fans don’t know this but upon his arrival to this country Arnold Schwarzenegger was lifting partners with none other than Billy Graham.
Andy Kaufman: See, my Cabaret of Hollywood Stars hangs out with nothing but, other Hollywood stars! We are bona fide celebrities!
Verne Gagne: I’d really like to wring this guy by his neck. He has no idea what it takes to be a professional wrestler.
Ken Resnick: And this could be all she wrote. The torturous backbreaker has been applied by Billy Graham and I’m afraid Kevin Von Erich will succumb to yet another defeat here in the AWA as referee Marty Miller calls for the bell.
Andy Kaufman: Just the beginning! Just the beginning! Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go ask Billy if he wants to go celebrate at Studio 51 tonight! Big things are coming! Big things!
Verne Gagne: The nerve of this guy. Look at Graham carrying him around like he’s a king. He better not get any gold around his waist or who knows what we are in store for.
Ken Resnick: Well, don’t speak to soon Verne, I have just been handed a note here that says that AWA President Stanley Blackburn will be right here on AWA All-Star Wrestling next week to make a major announcement concerning a new championship which will be coming to the AWA very soon!
Verne Gagne: And we are moving onto main event time here on AWA All-Star Wrestling. The match was set last week and what a big one it is. As the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes takes on the man from the Double Cross Ranch, Terry Funk who has been accompanied to ringside by AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Stan Hanson.
Ken Resnick: Dusty proclaimed last week, that he is here to help out his friends, Jerry Blackwell and Scott Hall in their pursuit of the world title and the defeat of Stan Hanson. But is that picture a tad bit murkier now with the emergence of Ric Flair and his Horsemen on the scene?
Ken Resnick: And here comes the Dream making his way past us here at the announce position and heads toward the ring to do battle with Terry Funk.
Verne Gagne: No love lost between these two and I predict to see more of the same in this match here tonight.
Ken Resnick: And before the bell even rings and Dusty Rhodes was ready for the match, Terry Funk is choking Dusty with those leather cowboy chaps of his! What a very under handed tactic to get this match started!
Verne Gagne: No one ever said that Terry was an angel when it came to abiding by the rules.
Verne Gagne: It looks like Dusty Rhodes has had enough of Terry Funk’s rule breaking ways! He’s got Terry up against the ropes and he’s about set to wallop him a good one right across top of the head with one of his patented elbows he throws.
Ken Resnick: Terry doesn’t look like such a tough guy now after he’s not able to use an illegal foreign object to gain an advantage in this match.
Ken Resnick: And there it is. Dusty was wiggled, danced, spun his arms and dropped the huge elbow on Terry Funk. The force of the blow has made Terry’s knees buckle from his weight and he falls hard to the canvas.
Verne Gagne: The AWA World Heavyweight Champ is up on the apron and Dusty delivers a huge elbow to Stan Hanson as well.
Ken Resnick: Oh how quickly Dusty was able to turn the tide of this match!
Ken Resnick: And Dusty Rhodes has applied the Figure Four leg lock to Terry Funk and that’s all she wrote.
Verne Gagne: After a career full of knee injuries, I can see why Terry Funk submitted so quickly and decided to fight another day.
Verne Gagne: And as Terry Funk and Stan Hanson go crawling away in defeat, there’s Jerry Blackwell with the ring bell, just in case these two try a double team on Dusty.
Ken Resnick: Well as we roll on closer to AWA Wrestle Rumble in two weeks’ time, things are getting mighty interesting around here. Make sure to tune in next week here on AWA All-Star Wrestling to see the action unfold. Good night everybody!
